Communication between home and school is an important part of our kindergarten program. Keeping an open line of communication is important to us so that we can work together to make your child's year successful!
We may communicate with you in different ways:
*email *school messenger *mailbag
*phone calls *Google Classroom
We will be sending important forms for you to fill out (eg. photo permissions, pick-up information, dietary or medical needs). Please fill out these forms as soon as possible and send them back to school in your child's mailbag.
We strongly feel that the school--home connection is very important and we look forward to working with you and your child this coming school year.
In a Balanced Day School, we have two nutritional breaks.
11:00--11:50 First nutritional break and recess
1:30—2:10 Second nutritional break and recess
Until students get used to dividing their lunch into two parts, it is helpful to label food items with the numbers “1” and “2” or put food in separate compartments of their lunch pail. For our first nutrition break students are asked to eat their main meal item (eg. sandwich, soup, cheese and crackers, wrap, etc.) and something healthy from their bag. At the second nutrition break students are asked to eat something healthy before they have a treat :)
Our school is a Nut Safe zone and we ask that you do not send any food to school with your child containing nuts. Thank you!
When buying indoor and outdoor running shoes for your child keep in mind that we encourage independence. We ask that you please purchase slip on or velcro shoes only (NO TIE UP LACES).
Students will need a pair of indoor running shoes that will stay at school for them to wear inside the classroom and in the gym. Please label both shoes with your child's name. It is surprising how often students have the same indoor running shoes and this helps us to make sure that each student has their own shoes on.
We ask that each child come to school on their first day with an extra set of clothing in a labelled ziplock bag that we will keep at school in their cubby (eg. pants/shorts, shirt, socks, underwear) . When wet/dirty clothes come home with your child please replace the items and send them back to school with your child on their next day of school. Kindergarten is a very fun place to be and can sometimes be messy and children will need a change of clothes .
Your child will need to bring a large backpack to school each day.
Your child’s backpack needs to be large enough to FIT
Mailbag
Library Book
Lunch Bag
Water bottle
Please make sure to label your child's backpack with their name.
We ask that toys be left at home as they are easily misplaced and sometimes get broken in the school environment. There will be opportunities throughout the school year for students to "show and share" various treasures. In accordance with the Thames Valley District School Board's "Safe School Policy", toy and pretend weapons of any kind are not allowed at school.
There is a large outdoor component to the Kindergarten Program at East Carling. We will be outside daily for 2 recess periods as well as a block of time for our Outdoor Classroom. Please make sure to check the weather each morning and dress your child appropriately to be outside for long blocks of time throughout the school day.
Before your child begins school please have them practice taking on and off their outdoor clothing as we foster independence in dressing/undressing. It is so wonderful to see how excited the students are when they can be independent in getting themselves ready to head outdoors to play and learn!
