Energy FLow in a food Chain
Typically food chains begin with the sun transferring its energy to a plant.
The plant takes this energy and turns it into food.
An animal, usually a herbivore, will eat the parts of the plant and get energy.
A larger animal, usually a carnivore, will come along and hunt that animal and eat it, to get its own energy. The process continues.
When the animal dies, a decomposer enters the picture and begins to decompose the parts of the animal and return the energy back to the soil.
