Welcome Parents and Guardians of the Class of 2024,
I am Ms. Lloyd, I will be teaching your student Social Justice remotely this year. This year will be unlike any other.
I am excited to virtually meet the Class of 2024 on Monday Aug 31 via Zoom. The class is designed to be student led which means the more they put into it the more the student will get out of the class. Our goal is 100% attendance and 100% participation daily. Distance learning will have its challenges but if we all work together and extend grace and patience with to each other this year will be amazing.
Social Justice is an American History course that looks at the current state of the country and ventures to learn why things are the way they are. We look at ourselves, our collective history, and our national injustices and analyze how to move ourselves, our community, and our nation forward.
Students will be expected to do both asynchronous and synchronous learning. By clicking on the student portal page of this website you can find a list of assignments and projects due. Students will be using Google Classroom to turn in their assignments. The student portal on this website will be where your student gets the majority of their information. Please feel free to check it out.
Communication is going to be even more important this year. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am available through email, text and phone calls.

About me
Ahoy Mateys,
Let me drop anchor for a moment and introduce myself, I am Ms. Lloyd and often called Chief Lloyd. This will be my 5th year teaching here at GPA. I am excited and grateful to be teaching Social Justice to the Class of 2024 even though we will be starting our voyage together via Zoom.
I love all things nautical and piratey as you probably have already noticed. At 18 I left home and joined the Navy. I was stationed on 4 ships and have sailed on Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean and crossed the Equator. So the sea is in my veins and I am traveler at heart visiting many foreign countries both as a Sailor and on my own. One of my biggest accomplishments was being promoted to Chief Petty Officer. After 24 years I retired from the Navy and went to National University to earn my Masters of Education.
I also love teaching students and watching them grow and develop. I try to embody the principles of "Teach like a Pirate" that was made popular by Dave Burgess who wrote a book by the same name. My goal is to create fun and creative lessons that are still academically rigorous.
I have an awesome First Mate, her name is Bella a Terrier/Schnauzer mix. She will probably make some appearances in class since we are teaching remotely.
