August 2020
Dear GPA Parent/Guardian,
It is my pleasure to be your student's English teacher this year. This will be my 6th year teaching at GPA, and my 3rd year teaching 11th Grade American Lit and AP Language and Composition. Although the learning environment is different then ever before, I have no doubt that this year your student will learn and grow as a reader, writer, speaker, listener, and most importantly, a thinker.
Our class will utilize various online learning tools and modes of instruction to provide individualized opportunities for your child to read a wide range of texts, write in a variety of styles, and share ideas with their classmates. We will read classic and modern literature, notable speeches, and current events to think critically and develop a deeper understanding of our world. Communication, instruction and assignments will primarily be located in Google Classroom, where you are welcome to join as a guardian. Zoom will be our virtual meeting software, and daily links to class will be posted in their Google Classroom. Your child's grades will be kept up to date in PowerSchool. Please make sure that you and your child have access to their PowerSchool account and that you check it regularly. One of the biggest motivators for students is to know that their parents are constantly aware of their assignments and their grades.
My office hours are open for students and parents. Please do not hesitate to reach out via email or text, if you or your student have any questions. I am also happy to set a time to speak by phone or zoom.
I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child this year.
With Respect,
Trevor Snell

About me
Hi, I'm Mr. Snell. I've been a teacher at Gompers Prep for over 6 years and will be entering my 3rd year teaching 11th grade English including American Literature and AP Language and Composition. I earned my bachelors degree in Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. North Carolina is where I grew up and lived until 2012 when I moved to San Diego. I love San Diego, its beaches, and its great weather which allows me to enjoy the outdoors all year long. I enjoy surfing, hiking, mountain biking, practicing yoga, climbing, and really anything I can do that gets me outdoors. I've been lucky to share these passions with my students over the last four years through our school's Adventure Club! I've been the advisor of the club and partner of local non-profit Outdoor Outreach which has taken over 200 9th-12th grade GPA students on outdoor adventures around and outside of San Diego. I've also had the privilege to spend time studying and living abroad in Spain, Argentina, and most recently, Rosarito, Mexico which has given me the gift of speaking Spanish. Sharing my love of exploring, learning, and better understanding the world around us is what drives me as an educator.
