About Me ...
Welcome! I'm Marc Dotson, the Law Pathway instructor at Eisenhower High School. My goal is to help students develop the knowledge, critical thinking, and professional skills needed for success in college, careers, and civic life. Through authentic learning experiences, real-world legal scenarios, simulations, and hands-on activities, students learn to analyze evidence, consider multiple perspectives, communicate effectively, and make well-reasoned decisions. Whether students pursue careers in law, public safety, government, or another field entirely, I hope they leave this program as informed citizens, ethical leaders, and lifelong learners.

Pathway Progression:
Each course builds upon the previous one, progressively developing students' understanding of law, government, public safety, and professional practice. Students begin by building foundational knowledge and professional skills, then apply legal concepts to everyday life, examine the criminal justice system in greater depth, and ultimately develop the practical skills, leadership, and judgment expected of future law enforcement professionals.
Introduction to Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security (LPSCS) – One Semester
Students build the foundation for the Law Pathway by exploring ethics, leadership, communication, critical thinking, government, the Constitution, the legal system, public safety, emergency services, and career opportunities. The course emphasizes professional habits, legal reasoning, and the role of law in society.
Practical Law – One Semester
Students examine how the law affects everyday life through topics such as constitutional rights, criminal law, civil law, family law, housing, and immigration. Authentic legal scenarios, hearings, and mock court proceedings help students apply legal concepts while developing legal reasoning and decision-making skills.
Law Enforcement I – Full Year
Students study the criminal justice system in greater depth, including criminal law, criminal procedure, courts, corrections, evidence, constitutional protections, investigations, and ethical decision-making. Students in Law Enforcement I and II have opportunities to earn concurrent college credit through WSU Tech.
Law Enforcement II – Full Year
Students develop advanced law enforcement knowledge and skills through practical applications including patrol procedures, investigations, report writing, officer safety, communication, leadership, and professional scenarios. Practical assessments, SkillsUSA participation, and industry-based experiences prepare students for postsecondary education and careers. Students in Law Enforcement I and II have opportunities to earn concurrent college credit through WSU Tech.
SkillsUSA
Students enrolled in the Law Pathway have opportunities to participate in SkillsUSA, the nation's premier Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO). SkillsUSA develops technical knowledge, leadership, teamwork, professionalism, communication, and career readiness through local, district, state, and national competitions related to criminal justice, public safety, and leadership. Participation strengthens classroom learning while building confidence, leadership experience, and valuable résumé credentials.
