Meet the Conductor
Mr. Shaw joined the Goddard High staff as choir director in the fall of 2016. Shaw earned a bachelor of arts from Bethel College, and a masters of music education with an emphasis in choral conducting from Wichita State University. He has previously taught in the Madison-Virgil, Moundridge, and Hutchinson school districts.
While at Goddard, the choirs have traveled to Dallas, San Antonio, Winter Park, and Nashville. The choirs have continuously received superior ratings at regional and state music festivals. In 2020, the Concert Choir was invited to sing for the annual KMEA In-service Workshop. Since it was a virtual conference, the choir prepared a recording that was part of the 2021 ISW. Choirs at GHS have also had the opportunity to work with composers and conductors: Jacob Narverud, Julie Yu, Elaine Hagenberg, and Tim Seelig.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Shaw serves as organist for Plymouth Congregational Church in the College Hill area. He has been on staff there since 2011. He has had the opportunity to accompany singers Arthur Marks and Karen Robu, bring in guest composers David Cherwien, Elaine Hagenberg, and Howard Helvey, and work with choral conductors Dr. Dustin Cates, Dr. Julie Yu, and Dr. Tim Seelig. Shaw is also know for his annual Christmas Organ Concerts with guest musicians.
Mr. Shaw is very active in Central Kansas as a guest conductor, accompanist, and performer. He has accompanied the State KMEA Mixed Choir under the direction of Dr. Tim Seelig, Dr. Anton Armstrong, Dr. Z. Randall Stroope, and Dr. Max Ferdinand. Each summer, Shaw serves as the KCDA Conference Accompanist. He recently debuted as music director and keyboards at Roxy's Downtown in Wichita.
Mr. Shaw lives in Kechi with his husband Erik and their dogs, Tucker and Hudson.
