Course Description
Honors CHEM III is a challenging, yet extremely rewarding course that covers material typically presented during the first semester of a college general chemistry course. The course meets daily and students have the opportunity to earn five hours of dual credit through Newman University (CHEM 1023-3 credit hours and LAB 1022-2 credit hours). This course is designed to provide a college level experience while preparing students for success in post-secondary science programs and in a wide variety of careers. Several topics will be introduced including the discussion of solution chemistry, kinetics, chemical equilibria, chemical thermodynamics, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, introduction to biochemistry and acid-base chemistry. Laboratory experiments will challenge students to think critically and analytically combing both theory and empirical evidence to develop real-world solutions. The opportunity to take this course at Eisenhower High School as part of a smaller class size is a huge benefit to students in their ability think deeply about the world around them.
