Course Description
Honors CHEM II is a challenging, yet extremely rewarding course that covers material typically presented during the first semester of a college general chemistry course. The course meets daily and students have the opportunity to earn five hours of dual credit through Newman University. This course is designed to provide a college level experience while preparing students for success in post-secondary science programs and in a wide variety of careers. Several topics will be introduced including the discussion of the structure of atoms, bonding, nomenclature, stoichiometry, chemical reactions, gases, solutions, acid-base chemistry, kinetics, equilibrium and some aspects of biochemistry. Laboratory experiments will challenge students to think critically and analytically combing both theory and empirical evidence to develop real-world solutions. The opportunity to take this course at Eisenhower High School as part of a smaller class size is a huge benefit to students in their ability think deeply about the world around them.
