Dr. Evangeline Cheng is Director of the Music Therapy and Special Music Education Research Center at the Maria Social Welfare Foundation, Taichung, Taiwan. She also works as an adjunct assistant professor in Tunghai University and Chung Shan Medical University. In collaboration with Fu-Jen Catholic University, Evangeline is a clinical supervisor of music therapy and a jury for thesis examination of postgraduate students over the years. She has over 15 years experience of working as a registered music therapist (Health and Care Professions Council, UK) with people who have complex needs in Barnet College, London (7 years) and in the foundation, Taiwan (8 years).
Being a manager, educator, staff training provider, clinical supervisor, and a head music therapist, Evangeline has had a lifelong fascination for music therapy. While studying at the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Center in London (now Goldsmiths College, University of London), she became interested in how we all drawn into music making no matter how severe of our disabilities or illnesses were. Evangeline pursued this line of enquiry and gained a PhD in music at Institute of Education (now UCL), in which she set out investigating the musical development and behavior of children and young people with complex needs. Her PhD thesis was graded ‘clear pass with no correction.
