Importance and diversity of proteins. Active and inactive conformations of proteins. Importance of enzyme inhibitors in the development of modern drugs.Suicide enzyme inactivators. Receptor-ligand interactions and cooperativity, allosteric enzymes, Scatchard equation and the Hill equation, enzyme mechanisms, mechanisms of selected enzymes: catalase, superoxide dismutase, carbonic anhydrase, cytochrome P450, glutathione transferase, glutathione peroxidases, restriction endonucleases, etc. Mechanisms and clinical significance of protein folding.

Protein-nucleic acid interactions.
