South Shore Robotics

An Afterschool STEM Based Robotics Club

Bridgewater Jr High School, Viking Commons

Elementary/Junior  Team BJHS - grades 4 - 9

Senior Team PVEC - Grades 10 - 12

Who are we?

Elementary students from Bridgewater Elementary (BES), Junior High students of Bridgewater Junior High School (BJHS) and Senior High Students of Park View Education Centre (PVEC); all located in and around Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Canada.

We accept students from other local schools.  There is no charge for this program.  We rely on grants and gifts in kind to maintain this service to our community.

The program is open ended and seeks to meet the interests and abilities of the students.  We try to provide the resources required to make a STEM project come to life.  We do have a couple of tried and true platforms to engage students in developing engineering skills.  We build underwater robots (ROVs) and create LEGO robots for competition.

What are our goals for 2023/24?

Goals are often defined by the availability of competitions and the aspiration of the students in the program.  This year we plan on being competitive in the Acadia Robotics ROBOFEST regional competition (February, 2024) and build an underwater remote controlled robot (ROV) for potential competitions in May of 2024.

Positions available:

We are in need of students (grades 5 - 12) interested in science, technology, engineering, business and those with skills as graphic designers, computer programmers, builders, business pitch presenters, writers, etc.

You would help the team in competitions.  Each ROV competition requires a technical report, a business pitch, a spec sheet, a safety analysis report, a marketing poster, etc.  The business side of the team involves a dragons den style business pitch to a panel of industry judges, as well as the creation of an effective marketing banner/poster.

Coding is always in demand.  If you have a special interest in learning Python or C++ we want to help you learn and use your skills to support our robot development!
