Primary/One Campbell

Welcome!  This is our classroom website that should give you a glimpse into our days together.   And away we go!

SCHEDULE

Our schedule is a work in progress that we develop together during the first few weeks of school. We tend to do literacy in the morning, and math in the afternoon. We make time for play centres after recess and students generally tell me how we start the afternoon as I gauge their energy levels and enthusiasm for different subjects.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

LIBRARY: Thursdays at 11:30am

MUSIC: Mondays and Wednesdays

Although our weekly schedule isn't locked down just yet, our daily timetable is reviewed each morning so there are few surprises.  We also take time throughout the day to work and play, catch our breath, have a bite to eat, and acknowledge that we are in a safe, happy place, and nothing we do today will be toooo hard.  We got this!

Home/School Communication

Students will bring home a reading bag (books go home later in the year.... likely right after Thanksgiving) with a notebook for letters and jot notes between home and school.   Please leave this notebook open when you write a note so that it's easily seen as I collect the bags each morning.  I will do the same!  Create a daily routine of emptying the message bag and remove notices/ art/ etc. Some notices from the office require a quick turn-around time and work sent home can go on the fridge or can be reviewed together to celebrate successes or go over things that are tricky.

Communication can also be by email, and is checked daily: campbellk@gnspes.ca.   Please note that I am not always able to respond immediately.  Including a phone number for where you can be reached is appreciated.

FOR URGENT CALLS: Please call the office (902-464-2048). For example, someone new might be picking up your child after school, or you may have to pick them up earlier than expected, and these urgent matters tend to pop up more surprisingly during the winter.  These are just a couple of examples when a quick phone call can help us easily prepare your child for changes to their day.

In the past, I've provided a weekly online newsletter, and we'll begin one again.  If it becomes apparent that the server is failing (it happens!), we will change it to a weekly email.

A little about me...

I've been a teacher for a really long time (since 1999) and it was the years spent as a classroom volunteer at my son's school (Fairview Heights Elementary) that motivated me to return to university for teaching. I continue to learn and grow as a teacher. You will frequently hear me say "mistakes are great" and "that is the best problem ever!" and students will often share stories of how they help me out with dilemmas such as finding the stapler or improvising when a game is dull.

I am from Cape Breton and now live in Fall River, and I have three sons (and soon, a daughter-in-law!)  We don't have any pets, but a lot of raccoons, deer, rabbits, too many groundhogs, and even a few bears come to visit quite often.

I love to write, make people laugh, and sing (even though I'm not very good at it!) and  I think Hawthorn is one of the best places to be.  Let's work together to make this year successful.

I can't wait to meet you!

Sincerely,

Ms. Campbell
