In Nova Scotia, all students at our grade levels are required to partake in the mandatory study of a second language. At BHJH, we are proud to continue the language programs offered by our feeder school, Redcliff Middle School. In all three french-language programs, the primary expectation is that students make an effort to speak french, at all times, as to enhance their chances of growth and their ability to learn.
Core French is offered province-wide as the standard course for students' acquisition of a second language. Over eighty percent of CCRCE french students are in Core French! This program is mandatory, unless students are enrolled in an optional program, such as those described below.
Integrated French offers students the opportunity to explore the french language in a more in-depth fashion by offering them the chance to study both French and Social Studies in their second (or additional) language. Integrated French begins in grade seven at Redcliff Middle School. This program is optional.
French Immersion students tackle a large array of courses in the second (or additional) language: French, Social Studies, Science, Math, Healthy Living - and occasionally more! Although French Immersion can begin at a number of different grade levels, our students' program begins in grade seven at Redcliff Middle School. This program is optional.
