Having studied all the western faiths last term, students have now moved onto looking at the Eastern religions starting off with Hinduism. Students have started looking the Hindu beliefs in God and exploring the different Gods and Goddesses within Hinduism.
Within our lessons this term, students have explored how Hindus worship both in their homes and within the Mandir. They have looked at how Puja may be conducted and have looked at the symbolic meaning of the items used within Puja. Students have explored why Hindus may go on pilgrimage whilst also drawing on their own views on religious journeys within their own faith. Students have also spent some lessons looking at the caste system within Hinduism and exploring how and why these may be a problem.
This half term, students have concluded this module by exploring the problem of evil and suffering. Students have conducted "mock trials" using their understanding of the problems evil and suffering pose for the existence of God. They have concluded this topic by looking at the possible solutions Christians present to the problem of evil and suffering.
Over the past few weeks, students have started their final Christianity module: Matters of Life After Death. They have looked at scientific arguments for the origins of the universe, and have looked at how these may cause a problem for Christian beliefs. Students have explored the Christian responses to these non-religious views and have been working on showcasing their evaluative skills through class discussions.
This term we have been focusing on revision techniques with students. Students have been looking at the key terminology used within the specification and have been going over content and looking at exam style questions.
We would like to say well done to our Y11 students for their continuous hard work this term!
