Zones of Regulation is a tool used to help pupils identify and communicate how they are feeling in a healthy way. It also gives pupils ideas for how to feel better in a healthy way.
The tool 'Zones of Regulation' involves four phases of alertness and emotion - Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red. At NPS each class has a display board promoting this well-being tool with a small picture and label for different emotions that pupils can use to identify how they feel each day.
We need to teach ALL of our children good coping and regulation strategies so that they can help themselves when they experience emotions such as anxiety or stress. Teaching children these tools at a young age will support them in later life.
The Zones are linked to the following colours:
Green: you are ‘good to go!’
Yellow: slow down or take warning
Red: stop and regain control
Blue: rest area where you pull over when you’re tired and need to recharge.
