Year 11

Year 11s rubbed shoulders with the nation's best poets at the Dominion Theatre, including Daljit Nagra, Imtiaz Dharker, Grace Nichols, John Agard and Poet Laureate Simon Armitage. It was a rare opportunity to get an insight into the personal stories behind the GCSE Anthology poems.

Year 7

To celebrate the end of their first term at GNSA, the Year 7s were treated to a magical performance of Cinderella at the Beck Theatre. Getting the opportunity to see drama performances and pantomimes is absolutely vital in broadening the students' understanding of culture and giving them a rounded education. They will also be reviewing and answering questions about their experience, which will be the first step in helping students gain their Bronze Arts Award.

History

Imperial War Museum

On the 16th of November 2022, my peers and I went on a trip to the Imperial War Museum. Last half term we were learning about the holocaust, so we went to the holocaust exhibition in the museum, over there we went into different rooms and saw a lot of artifacts from the time period of the holocaust. One thing at the exhibition that really caught my eye was this board game that kids used to play. It caught my attention because in the game you have to kill each other to go to the next block so the game taught children to kill people from a young age. At the exhibition we also saw posters that use to be hung up during the holocaust and they said things like ‘Come join the Nazi’s and your life will be all perfect’. Another thing was the clothes that the Nazi’s use to wear and what the Nazi judges would wear, the Nazi’s uniform was black, red and white whereas the Nazi judges uniform was just black. Another thing that got me very interested was that at the exhibition there were quotes on the walls. I'd say the quote that caught my attention was ‘Hell is still a paradise compared to a concentration camp’. This quote caught my attention because it tells us how badly the Jews were treated. I really enjoyed going to the Imperial War Museum as I did learn some new stuff over there about people's personal lives and it was pretty interesting because the stories told us a lot about people's lives and how they were treated.

Bethlem, Museum of the Mind

Students will be visiting Bethlem, Museum of the Mind on Wednesday 14th December. Having studied psychiatry in the Victorian period, the trip further supports students learning as they will have time to explore the galleries and take part in an object handling session.

Computing

Trip to Microsoft

We were given the opportunity to take our Year 11 Computer Science students into London to visit the Microsoft Experience Centre. They took part in a variety of sessions from Interview preparation and CV writing to Coding and having hands on experience in the Microsoft Gaming Centre. Students took away some valuable information in regards to future pathways as well as enjoying the facilities provided by Microsoft. Feedback was very positive from both staff leading the event as well as students who went to the trip.
