Students of GCSE Art & Design took part in a workshop led by artist Joel Sydenham to create these landscapes that aim to promote a positive message. Each work was created on a canvas and students in groups of 5 collaborated to create these masterpieces. Students learned how colour theory, in particular, complementary and analogous colour schemes can contribute to the effect of the work. Following onto a silhouette layer and finally with a positive message of their own choosing. Each message promotes looking on the brighter side of life. We hope you enjoy experiencing the work as much as the students enjoyed creating them.
Students in the Tuesday after school Textiles Club have been preparing Christmas decorations, using hand and sewing machine construction and decorative techniques. It is a great club to explore your creative side and to get to know other students from different forms and years.
In the new year we are going to plan, design and make a new textiles design banner for the entrance area.
You are able to join at any time!

Year 7 have been looking at the fundamentals of rhythm, using the traditional percussive music of West Africa as a foundation.
Students have been exploring key musical elements such as polyrhythm, ostinato, improvisation, composition, imitation and group and solo performance together with the use of the Malian drum the Djembe.
They have learned how to hold the drum, produce the 3 distinct sounds of slap, tone and bass and then use the instrument in composition and both group and solo performances.
Year 8 have been exploring the musical form of Theme and Variation, with written notation and keyboards.
They learnt the theme from Haydn's Sympony No.94 and manipulated it by altering different musical elements, such as rhythm, tempo and dynamics, to create different variations to be performed infront of their peers.
Year 9 have been looking at one of the fundamental compositional techniques used in Western Classical music, counterpoint. They have learned a cantus firmus (given melody) by Salieri and then performed it along with a counterpoint by Schubert.
Students then used what they learned to produce their own complimentary counterpoint to Sarlieri’s cantus firmus which they have performed as soloists and in duets.
