Problem Solving Focus
Solving problems has been the focus in the runup to the Christmas break. The wider school activities have also been reflected in the work of students. Real problem solving activities in class, national competitions in computational thinking, analysing the media produced by the school as well as getting ready for those all important exams. Not forgetting Gurjeevan Kalha interviewing Mr Sandhu for a local news website! We have had it all going on!
Sixth Form
Students have been gearing up to solving real life issues in the taught units and have had to apply their knowledge to the real world of how business uses computing through the Level 3 BTec IT qualification. These have included the implications of a Cyber Security incident, management of large quantities of data and the implications of social media on business that have to run and succeed everyday.
UK Bebras Computing Challenge 2021
In association with Oxford University, Google and The Raspberry Pi Foundation many students took part in the competition.
Each participant answered questions that focused on computational and logical thinking. No coaching or help was given to them from the staff. The top students in the school are Navdeep Dhaliwal in Year 7, Manraj Kapoor in Year 9, Gurjot Sidhu in year 10 and Nirjeet Gulati in Year 13. Over 80 other students managed to get a distinction.
CS Education Week - Hour of Code 2021
Students really enjoyed using Scratch to go literally scratching the surface of games to see the raw code behind the graphics and clicks. Seeing how interactions are developed and how the games developers try to attract and keep their attention. Other avenues explored included Minecraft and CodeCombat activities.
Years 10 and 11
Stunning multimedia production with analysis and games programming have shown students to be thirsty to apply knowledge that they have gained and turn it into examples of polished digital products that would not look out of place in any professional business. Students have been staying after school on a Friday to improve and refine their work voluntarily.
Mr Sandhu in the news!
Gurjeevan Kalha interviewed Mr Sandhu for thisislocallondon.co.uk. Mr Sandhu gave us his precious words of wisdom:
“For me, teaching allows me to give back to the community; being able to equip students with skills and knowledge to be ready for the ever expanding I.T. world. It is so satisfying when they exceed expectations. In my opinion, there is nothing as rewarding as that in the profession of teaching.”
