On Friday 12th November our children had a special memorial ceremony in the primary gym honouring all British and Commonwealth soldiers who died in WWI and subsequent wars involving these nations. This tradition was first started by King George V in 1919 and is held at the Cenotaph in London and may places across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
A two-minute silence was also held the previous day at 11am observing the moment WWI ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Also known as Poppy Day because of the wild poppies that grew freely in the disturbed earth in the battle grounds of Flanders. Poppies are bought and worn by millions of people and money raised is sent to war veteran charities.
Thank you to our parents a total of £147.02 from primary school for the Royal British Legion
