Bandi Chhor Divas Celebrations

What our students say:

"From learning about Bandi Chhor Divas, I was able to understand the importance of solidarity and helping others regardless of background, religion, race or any other characteristic."

Celebrations of Bandi Chhor Divas in our classrooms!

To celebrate the acts of compassion and selflessness from Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, our students created divas and posters to display the triumph of justice. Our students were able to reflect on how we can all learn from this Sakhi and try and be more compassionate and selfless within the wider community.

Gurpurab Celebrations

During this term, across the MAT we celebrated the auspicious birth of Dhan Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Over the course of the week, we had special assemblies, lessons that were based on the theme 'Unity' and an evening program where we celebrated with our GNSA community.

A snapshot of our lessons

Year 7: How are beliefs shown in the 6 world faiths?

Over the second half of this term, students have explored religious actions and symbols within the 6 world faiths.  They have have explored why certain religious rituals and actions take place and what the symbolic meaning behind these actions are. Students have also created their own religious symbols to showcase the 6 world faiths in one image.

Year 8: How does evil and suffering pose a problem for God?

Our Year 8s concluded this term by looking at the philosophical solutions to evil and suffering as presented by Augustine and Irenaeus. They then looked to support these philosophical arguments with religious ones offered by Christianity, Buddhism and Sikhism. Students have been able to argue whether they believe the solutions outweigh the problems of evil and suffering.

Year 9: How important is the Trinity to Christians?

To conclude their introduction to Christian beliefs, our Y9s have looked at Christian beliefs on life after death and explored the role Jesus plays in resurrection. They then looked at what problems evil and suffering poses for an omnibenevolent and omnipotent God. Students have completed this module by looking at the many solutions Christians offer for the problem of evil and have supported these arguments with Biblical references.

Y10: 'All Christians should worship in the same way.' How far do you agree?

Over this half term students have looked at how Christians practice their faith in their day to day lives. They have explored the nature and role of worship including the importance of the Eucharist within Christianity as well as explore where Christians may go on pilgrimage. They concluded this topic exploring what importance the local and global church has on the Christian faith and individual believers.

Year 11

Our Y11s have completed their GCSE Mocks and we would like to take this opportunity to say well done for getting through their two week mock examinations.
