Friday, April 26th @ 9:00 am (qualifies for starting RN program in FALL August 2019. PN students can take the exam, but will apply to next open petition application window in August 2019 for January 2020.

How do I register, pay and schedule my exam?

Create a new NLN account at this LINK, follow instructions and search under Exam Sessions to register and purchase.

Exam cost is $40 and is subject to change.

What are the content areas for the exam?

The three content areas are Verbal, Math and Science. You are allotted 40 minutes per content area to complete. Two hours total. Please CLICK HERE for exam details

What is required to be successful?

You need a minimum composite score of 100 in order to qualify for petitioning. The desired target score is 130. Exam scores are available 4 hours after completion in the "Report" section of your NLN account. Scores are automatically sent to MATC and saved in the system and can be used for later petition windows.

Do you offer Student Accommodations for the exam?

Special testing accommodations for students who have a documented disability are available through Student Accommodation Services.

To apply for accommodations and to make an appointment for testing with accommodations, you must call or email Heather Lorbiecki (414-297-6962, 414-297-6750, or Lorbiech@matc.edu) at least 2 weeks before the exam date.

Follow below procedure:

■ Register for the exam date or set up an account with NLN

■ Call or email to set up an appointment to complete the NLN Accommodation Application 

■ Complete a Test Accommodation Request Form and submit Documentation of Disability (if it is not already on file) to Student Accommodation Services

■ Provide a copy of the paid receipt for testing to Student Accommodation Services

■ On day of scheduled test, arrive at S215 at 8:30 am with picture ID. Test will begin at 9:00 am.

What do I bring the day of the exam?

Come to the exam location at the

Please retrieve your NLN username and password and bring a photo ID and a copy of your NLN exam purchase receipt (either paper or phone email) and provide your MATC student ID# for check in

Only calculators are allowed during the exam. If a short restroom break is permitted during the exam, students cannot bring any items during breaks and are not permitted to leave the building. No cell phones can be used during the exam. Students can bring a covered beverage.

You are allotted two hours (40 minutes per section) for the exam and can leave when finished

What if I need to retake the exam?

The retake policy is 90 days to ensure that you remediate and make the necessary changes to become successful. Students are allowed three lifetime retakes and must pay for each attempt. The highest score is kept. You might be contacted by an Education Specialist from MATC for remediation assistance.

Are you submitting your NLN score from another college?

Scores must be *sent by the NLN

Please have vendors submit scores/transcripts to Rutkowsk@matc.edu. Please contact us to make sure we have your transcripts and provide us with your date of birth or MATC Student ID# There is a fee for the service if they find your results. The fee is waived if you took the exam at MATC. If you paid once for the report you can resend with no additional cost.

*Students have the option of coming to the H126 in person and logging into their NLN account and presenting their score report. Email Rutkowsk@matc.edu to set up time.

Refunds and Rescheduling

All transactions are made with the NLN. The National League for Nursing (PAX NLN) will only reschedule an exam 14 days prior to the exam date. There is a $25 rescheduling fee. No refunds available.

How often do you offer Exams?

The majority of the exams are given on multiple dates in January and August during the program petition windows. An exam might be offered prior to winter and summer break or if a petition window is extended.

January exam dates are posted in mid October and August exam dates are posted in mid March.

When should I take my Exam?

We suggest that students allow at least 3 months to prepare for their exam. Ideally, prerequisite courses should be completed or you are entering the the final semester of prerequisites.

How is the Exam weighed in the Petitioning Process?
