Textbook: Elevate Science Comphrensive 3

Course Description:

  • The 8th grade curriculum focuses on the Physical Sciences. We start off the year with Scientific Method-Metric System. We continue to the Fundamentals of Chemistry and The Atomic Theory. Energy is the next unit of study. Energy includes its many types and how it is transferred with out universal systems. Next unit of focus is Newton's Laws of Motion including math formulas to show how each law can be measured. My classes use hands-on-modules as they relate to the unit of study. My course is inquiry bases, which teaches students to develop critical thinking and problem solving skill in the real world.

Grading: Classwork/Homework

  • Classwork: This consist of lab reports, notes vocabulary, worksheets and any other material covered during one class period /multiple class periods. These materials, if they become a homework assignment are to be turned in the next day during the exact class period that it was assigned. Each day an assignment is late, it is 50% off the grade.
  • Gifted/ Advanced classes - grade is worth cumulative points acquired during each 9 week period.
  • Regular classes - grade is 20% of each 9 week grade

Grading: Tests/Quizzes:

  • Test are given to cover the work learned during a Chapter(ex: Ch 4 Energy).There can be test at a section of that covered unit too. I will always have a Review the day before the actual test so students will have the correct materials to study with.
  • Gifted/ Advanced classes - grade is worth cumulative points acquired during each 9 week period.
  • Regular classes - grade is 50% of each 9 week grade


Grading: Labs:

  • If a lab that is done to go along with a science topic, lab groups will be assigned by the teacher. Most labs have details that are included with a lab report.
  • Gifted/ Advanced classes - grade is worth cumulative points acquired during each 9 week period.
  • Regular classes - grade is 30% of each 9 week grade

Grading: Projects:

  • Multiple projects will be assigned throughout the school year. Projects are something that a student will work on at home and sometimes in the classroom. Projects can be assigned that are due in 1/2/5 weeks to complete.
  • Projects are included in your Test grade category.
