Creating art is good for the overall health and well-being of your child. Giving children a creative outlet can help relieve stress and work through things happening in their lives.

Encouraging your child's artistic expression will help to facilitate their learning. I created this website as a resource for our Alligators to enjoy art at home.

Enjoy our Art Studio!

22-23 Important Dates

AUGUST 2023

It's another exciting year for your Alligator in the artroom this year!

In 3rd grade, we started learning about the contemporary artist, writer, and illustrator, Todd Parr, and read his book "It's Okay to be Different." Students are using his bright and bold artwork as inspiration to create self-portrait collages using cut paper!

In 4th grade we are gaining growth mindset tools by learning how mistakes help us learn. We have read "A Beautiful Oops" by Barney Saltzberg, and how we can work through mistakes in art. Students have been given a blank paper with an inkblot, and have to trust the process of turning that inkblotted paper into a finished masterpiece.

In 5th grade, students are using their background knowledge of value, texture, and emphasis to create mixed-media Animal Collages using painted paper scraps, oil pastels, and paint. This project is putting them to the test, and they are all handling it amazingly!

SEPTEMBER 2023

It's fall, y'all so exciting things are happening in the art room!

3rd graders are learning about the famous artist, Vincent Van Gogh, and how he used bright colors and bold brush strokes to paint the world he saw. Students will also be learning about the genre, still life, and painting their own version of Van Gogh's still life titled "Sunflowers."

4th graders are using printmaking techniques to create printed patterns with Red, White, and blue in preparation for their Veteran's Day Performance in November where their art will be on display!

5th graders are learning about Indonesian Batik art, and using a similar method with a wax and crayon resist! Students will first draw out a pumpkin landscape and color it in with crayons pressing firmly to make sure a lot of wax gets onto the paper. The next step will be to watercolor over the entire artwork letting the paint resist the waxed (crayon) areas. The effect will give off a spooky feeling just in time for Halloween!
