Mrs. Jennifer McKay      Room 309 jmckay@gloucesterschools.com

Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies in Room 309 at O’Maley Middle School. Let me first introduce myself; I am Jennifer McKay and I was born and raised in Gloucester and attended Gloucester Public Schools from Kindergarten through twelfth grade. This will be my 19th year teaching at O’Maley Middle School and I consider myself very fortunate to be working with such a talented a dedicated group of teachers and staff.

I realize that teaching your student is a privilege, as well as a tremendous responsibility. I will do my best this year to ensure that each student has a safe and enjoyable learning experience in the classroom. However, I cannot do this alone: I need your help. We both need to be partners in the learning process. I need each of you to encourage your student at home by helping to ensure that they have completed their assignments, and push them to study and prepare quizzes, tests and projects. I will keep you informed of all assignments and subjects that are covered in class through my website, calendar and google drive. Thank you in advance for all your support!

Sincerely,

Jennifer McKay M.Ed. & M.A.

Expectations

The Five B’s

1. Be on time        2. Be prepared      3. Be respectful to yourself, classmates, and adults

4. Be accountable                                                                                    5. Be consistent

Accountability and Independence

These are skills that we will continue to foster throughout the year.  It is important to acknowledge that your son/daughter is going to be in high school next year and will need to be accountable and independent to be successful.  Learning is growing and growing is learning. With this in mind we can have a very successful year together and fully anticipate a great deal of growth from your child this year.

Chromebooks

We will be using Chromebooks regularly in class and it is expected that all students bring their fully charged Chromebook to class with them everyday. Chromebooks will be used for many reasons throughout the year for research, writing, collaborating, and presenting.
