Thank you to those who attended our information evenings this week, just Year 10 to go now! If you want to refer to the slides from any of the evenings that have now taken place, please refer to our website here.
A theme of the evenings has been helping you talk to your daughter each day about her lessons, her learning and her school experience. This graphic was shared and provides you with a useful understanding of the language of learning we use at Rosebery, which we hope serves as a useful point of reference when talking to your daughter at home, or when helping her with ideas for how to study at home. In particular, I would recommend that all our girls have their own mini white board kit at home to do their messy thinking and working out!
In assemblies this week, I’ve spoken to the girls about their Rosebery Journey, but also about legacy and the importance of championing girls’ education, particularly given the current political and social climate, both at home and abroad. I took them right back to the founding of this school, when Mrs Hall, in the 1920s, had a vision “to create a society evoking the loyalty and devotion of a lifetime… in which the essential basis of civic virtue would be inculcated more by practice than by precept.” As I reflected on with the girls, I’m not certain that Mrs Hall, nor Lord Rosebery, would be particularly proud of the current state of play, but here, in this school, our girls and this community does give one a tremendous sense of hope for the future. Be the change you want to see, girls and remember our pledge to you, and your pledge to each other! #RoseberyProud
In addition, the list of clubs, activities and opportunities continues to grow, so please continue to encourage your daughter sign up, be brave and try something new – the majority of enrichment activities are available for you to see on ePraise, but bigger trips and activities, such as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, will also be communicated to you directly.
It’s been wonderful to have Friday Live back on Friday lunchtimes and now including our A Level Music students – we had over 60 students in attendance last week, and there are a range of musical opportunities available to your daughter, which I hope she considers taking up. In addition, I was delighted that over 200 girls auditioned for the latest school production of ‘Six the Musical’ – I believe they are finding out how they have been cast this week – good luck ladies.
Finally, despite the joy and optimism at Rosebery, the educational landscape and in particular funding for schools, remains bleak. Next week I will be writing to you all about the importance of the School Fund, and also highlighting the exceptional work of the PSA, however, if in you have creative ideas, suggestions or know how, regarding income generation, be it bid writing, sponsorship, or tapping into philanthropic responsibility, the SSB and I will also be reaching out to you for help – so please put your collective thinking caps on, in advance!
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

We have been so pleased to see Year 7 getting stuck in to Rosebery life, now that they have completed a full two-week timetable rotation. This week has seen the launch of our extracurricular clubs, and it has been amazing to see Year 7's enthusiasm to join everything from Netball to Photography, to the school production. Now that the vast majority of Year 7 have managed to log on to their ePraise accounts, students should be able to see which clubs are available, sign up and register their attendance to earn those all important ePraise points.
As Year 7 get organised with their lessons, we have realised that they also need a bit of support with remembering their equipment for clubs! Please could we ask that you support them to think of the school day - plus any clubs they wish to attend - when packing their bags, to avoid last minute equipment drop-offs at Reception. Please also note that, in a school this size, it is not possible to reunite girls with their equipment unless everything is labelled with their full name and form.
Our Homework Club also began this week and is the perfect place for Year 7 to develop good habits, such as tackling tasks on the day they are set (where possible). Homework Club is supported by Ms Newman, Miss Godsave and our team of Y12 Champions, so that we represent a diversity of expertise that students can access when needing support for their homework. It is also an ideal place to get support with logging on to ePraise, Google or any other accounts. Homework Club runs on Wednesday, 3.15pm to 4.15pm in OK2.
Furthermore, Year 7 have been given access to a locker this week, so that they can start to organise themselves before and after school, at break and at lunchtime. If you have missed the deadline to pay for a locker, but would still; like your child to access one, please use the 'Contact Us' form on the Rosebery website and direct your query to the Admin team, who will be able to add it to your ParentPay account.
Finally, a huge congratulations to 7CY, who at time of writing, are leading the way with 848 ePraise points. However, 7PY are a close second, with 792 points. Special mention goes to Keira S 7PY, Benita H 7MX and Amber S 7MX, who at time of writing, collected 10 merits this week and are at the top of the individual leaderboard. Well done!

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our Parents’ Information Evening on Tuesday. We hope you left feeling confident and equipped to support your daughter both socially and academically. The link to view the slides from the evening is available HERE. This week has been filled with drive, ambition, and a strong sense of belonging- from thought-provoking form times to team fixture wins and inspiring classroom moments.
On Monday, the girls explored the importance of building effective study habits as part of their 'Be Prepared' programme. It was great to see them illustrating what a productive study environment looks like - with a special mention to 8PX, as not one of them drew their bedrooms, recognising that studying in bed is a risky move! We were also inspired by a motivational message on Tuesday from Mr Lach who spoke about the importance of who these girls can become. He encouraged them to reflect on their strengths, set ambitious goals and embrace opportunities for personal growth. His words reminded the girls that their potential is limitless when determination is paired with self-belief.
On the topic of determination, a huge congratulations must go to our Year 8 football team, who secured a fantastic 7–4 victory against Carrington School. Sophia C 8PY took control of the game with an incredible hat-trick, supported by strong defensive efforts from Olivia C 8MY, Juliet V 8EY, and Amelia D 8EX. Well done to all the players - see you at Thank You Friday!
Looking ahead, the girls will be taking their NGRT tests in English lessons next week. This standardised reading assessment helps us understand each student’s reading age. Please ensure your daughter brings a pair of wired headphones - thank you for helping reinforce this at home. We’re also excited to celebrate Languages Week in form time! The girls will explore why languages matter, get creative designing their own postcards, and celebrate cultural diversity.

It was a pleasure to meet so many Year 9 parents and carers at yesterday’s information evening, to share more about why our ethos in Year 9 is ‘adventure is out there’ and what this means for a Year 9 student; to highlight some specific events on the Year 9 journey, including DofE, the Wicked theatre trip, the GCSE options refinement process and lower school graduation. As touched on during our Information Evening (slides available HERE), a powerful way to support your daughter this year is by using points and de-merits on ePraise as starting points to reflect on their learning in lessons, including some Teaching and Learning phrases that students are familiar with hearing each day from their teachers.
The three coaching tips to hold conversations with your daughter when they have received a de-merit and you’d like to change the narrative about their learning are:
Find out more information in a non-combative way
Find out how they feel about it
Help them resolve how to move forward
Year 9 have continued to have another very positive and productive week, including our first Year 9 study club of the term. It was amazing to see so many Year 9s come to study club with their homework and revision, and to work with such dedication and support one another. Don’t forget to book into the study club on ePraise for next week and bring your loyalty cards to earn stamps towards a hot chocolate upgrade.
Next week, Year 9 are receiving an additional assembly from Mrs Coombes and the Year 13 coaches about the changes towards students signing up to receive 1-1 coaching this academic year. More information will be shared in next week’s Rosebery News entry, so for now, this weekend would be a great chance to ask your daughter questions about coaching in Year 8 form time and to reflect on whether they would like to sign up for 1-1 coachng this year.

Year 10 continue to be like ducks to water with their GCSE studies beginning in full this week. Mr Lach spoke in assembly about the importance of making the most out of opportunity and how the students we have in Year 10 have the potential to change the world around them in so many ways. It is a sentiment I truly believe and become surer of with each passing week.
This week, Year 10 have been focusing more on their study skills during form time, with a focus on ensuring that they give themselves adequate rests during their studies. For every 25 minutes of work, having that 5 minute break can be crucial in ensuring that their attention stays sharp and they are able to retain things in memory.
We’ve also had the launch of all our clubs this week. I’ve been blown away with how big the uptake of these has been, even with the increased workload of Year 10. It is wonderful to see so many students engaging with things they are passionate about and enjoy.
Next week, we welcome you all on Wednesday to our Information Evening. I look forward to speaking to you all with Mr Styles and Mr Hewett, about how best we can work together to support Year 10 going forward, and to ensure that they have the best progress across the year. For those unable to attend, we will send our information out after the event also.
Have a lovely weekend!

As always, our students continue to impress me this week as we draw to a close our third week back at school. Establishing those new routines, adjusting our body clock and actually communicating face to face with more peers than we have been used to over the summer break has been challenging for some.
You wouldn’t know this in lessons, though, as Year 11 continue to work smart and are driven by their end goals. Mr Lach spoke about this in our assembly this morning and highlighted how important this year is to our students. Now - more than ever - we need to work collaboratively and aim to get things right quicker than ever.
We continue to celebrate the successes and, as I highlighted in our Information Evening – points mean prizes! We have a total of 5003 points as a collective on ePraise as I write this, which is a testament to the hard work Year 11 are putting in. Congratulations go to Marnie B 11PY, who not only has 100% attendance, but also 42 points on ePraise with 0 demerits – well done!
Some more remarkable students in Year 11 are those who competed at the Surrey Relay Gala held at the London Aquatic Olympic Pool: Elle W 11CY, Isobel S 11PY, Marnie B 11PY and Rebecca D 11MY. The girls delivered exceptional performances, recording personal bests, winning individual heats, and contributing to the overall women’s team finishing an impressive 7th out of 19 teams. Well done, we are so proud of you!

Now that Year 12 have privileges to leave the site when they do not have lessons, we thought we would remind you of the basics when it comes to independent study and organisation.
Independent study in Year 12 and 13 is essential for academic success and preparing for future pathways. It should be structured, intentional and go beyond just completing homework. Students should create a weekly study schedule that balances all subjects and includes regular revision, consolidation and exam practice. Active learning techniques like flashcards, mind maps, teaching others and self-testing are far more effective than passive reading. Regular exam practice is vital, especially in Year 13. This includes doing timed past papers, marking work using mark schemes and applying feedback. Students should also take responsibility for identifying weak areas and filling gaps by using textbooks, videos, or asking teachers for help.
Reflection is key - reviewing what worked each week and adjusting your study plan accordingly builds independence and resilience. Additionally, wider reading beyond the syllabus (such as books, podcasts, or documentaries) can deepen understanding and strengthen university applications or interviews. Ultimately, independent study is about working smart, not just hard. It’s a chance to build strong habits that will help not only in exams, but also at university or in the workplace, where self-directed learning is expected.
For Year 12 and 13 students, strong organisation is essential for managing workload, reducing stress, and preparing for exams or post-school plans. Start with weekly and monthly planning using a planner or digital tool like Google Calendar or Notion. Schedule class time, homework, revision, and downtime. Organise each subject with separate folders or notebooks, keeping notes neat, dated, and backed up if digital. Track tasks and deadlines using checklists or apps and prioritise based on urgency. Plan revision early using techniques like flashcards, past papers, and spaced repetition, and review topics regularly. Manage your time effectively, avoid multitasking, and study when you're most alert.
For university or apprenticeship applications, keep track of deadlines, personal statements, and references in one place. Know who to approach for academic, careers, or wellbeing support, such as tutors or school advisors.
Balance is key: schedule breaks, social time, physical activity, and aim for 8 hours of sleep. Staying organised reduces stress, improves academic performance, and sets you up for life after school.
In other news, the Theatre Trip to see Moulin Rouge is sold out. However, we are considering running another trip in the Spring term to see Hades Town - so watch this space! There will also be a meeting to discuss logistics for those of you going to Lille before the end of September - keep an eye on your emails for more details.
As Year 13 have been exploring mental health in PDC and the support available for you, we wanted to remind you that in addition to us, we can make referrals for support through the Hive and Mind Matters for those 17 and over. If you feel you might benefit from this support, please get in contact.
Finally, please do badger your teachers for points on ePraise because points mean prizes, and you deserve to have your hard work recognised. On that note, congratulations to Abi W in Year 12 KEJ and Olivia T 13MRC in Year 13 who have the most ePraise points.

The response to the auditions for SIX were amazing, with over 200 students attending. We were very impressed with the commitment of all the students who auditioned, as well as the very high standard of singing, dancing and characterisation demonstrated.
We are pleased to announce that everyone who auditioned has a role in the show. A cast list has been posted on the Drama noticeboard in the main Dench Building entrance and a rehearsal schedule will be sent out soon. Our first whole-cast meeting will be on Tuesday 23 September at 3.10pm in D3.
We can't wait to start rehearsing this exciting show.

In a thrilling encounter, the U13s Football Team came out on top with a 7-4 win after extra time in their first game of the English Schools Cup. The team started strong, dominating the first half with two goals each from Chloe V 8PX and Sophia C 8PY, giving us a 4–0 lead at half time. However, the second half saw a strong comeback from Carrington School, who scored four goals to level the match and take it to extra time.
With Miss Croft and Miss Dawson trying to keep calm on the sideline, Sophia stepped up and delivered a sensational performance, scoring three more goals in extra time to seal the win and take her tally to five goals on the day.
Players' Player was awarded to Ruby D 7MY "for getting stuck into all challenges and defending players a lot taller than her and for playing in the middle where she does not normally play"
Miss Croft's Player of the Match was awarded to Sophia for her sensational 5 goals and for maintaining calm and composed when the team needed it most.
Miss Dawson's Player of the Match was awarded to Amalie D 8EX for being consistent in attacking the ball and applying pressure on the opposition. Well done for your amazing contribution to the win!
Miss Croft - Head of PE
Please ensure your daughter has a water bottle to fill up throughout the day and comes to school wearing the correct uniform.
At Rosebery, we are committed to ensuring that all students have access to the period products they need, whenever they need them.
To support this, we provide free period products for students. These are available just outside The Hive, and students are welcome to help themselves. We kindly ask that they take only what they need, so supplies remain available for everyone.
We also offer reusable options, including period underwear for day and night reusable. Students can request these directly from a member of The Hive team, who will assist with sizing and product choice.
This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to equality, dignity, and wellbeing for all students.
