October has arrived, but the Autumnal drizzle could not dampen the spirits of our Head Girls and Senior Prefect Team in launching RAG Week with our students this week.
I am very proud of the many Rosebery traditions, and keeping alive the spirit of ‘Raising & Giving’ (RAG) is a great example, and one of the things that is only possible at a school like Rosebery - and is testament to our culture, values and ethos.
You can watch the launch video below, which is followed by a list of key dates and events – with tickets and wristbands for entry available on Parent Pay. For those families who are new to Rosebery, I promise you that your daughters will not want to miss Teachers’ Top of the Pops!

It was lovely to welcome prospective parents and carers to our first Open Morning today – and I continue to be grateful for the kind words and recommendations you offer us within the community. Our visitors could not have been more complimentary about our Year 8 tour guides – so thank you ladies. Our final two Open Mornings take place on Tuesday and Thursday of next week, ahead of the deadline for the application for secondary school placements at the end of the month.
I am also delighted that so many of you have signed up for our Year 8 and Year 9 Open Mornings for current parents/carers, which we introduced last year – it’s great to be able to give you sight of the school in action and experience a typical morning at Rosebery.
Elsewhere this week, Year 8 students visited the Innovation Academy at Brooklands, The Hive held their first Wellbeing Café event for our new Year 7 students and several of our football teams have kicked off the season with victories – which you can read more about later in Rosebery News.
You’ll also find details of our Activities Week plans for this July in this edition of Rosebery News, launching now to give students and families as much notice as possible – but I would really love to break our record for the number of Year 9 students opting for Duke of Edinburgh and wonder how close we can get to 100% uptake!
Finally, as I’ve referenced the end of this academic year, please find attached here our provisional term dates for 2026-27, which include the two week October half-term announced by Surrey County Council. These are also now listed on our website, with only the dates of INSET days and Collaborates afternoons likely to change – so you can book your holidays for October 2026!
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Ms Newman
Head of Year 7
Miss Godsave
Deputy Head
of Year 7
It has been wonderful to visit Year 7 in their lessons this week. Mr Harvey and I had the pleasure of seeing Y-side students in their Maths lessons, where Miss Millar-Mills’ class were using mini whiteboards very effectively to receive feedback on their answers, and Mr Croudace’s class were taking opportunities to demonstrate their thinking to others. We also saw X-side students learning about seasonality in Food, marking up pieces of wood for their insect hotels in DT and designing new inventions in Product Design.
We are also now beginning our countdown to our PGL residential, and thanks go to Miss Canessa for hosting the Information Evening for the trip. All information has now been emailed out, enabling you to cross-check.
Inspired by Team Year 8, Year 7 are trying something new for the Rosebery News: Weekly Wins! Each week, the Year 7 form groups are going to share something that they are proud of, as a way to celebrate both individual and collective achievements. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we did.
🏆 WEEKLY WINS 🏆
7CX: Everyone made amazing sounds in drama
7CY: Elsie-Joy K and Isla H got into the school production of SIX: TEEN EDITION - not easy as this was hugely competitive!
7EX: Nirvayah A sang at Friday Live and 7EX went along to support her!
7EY: Darcy W and Amelia C won their football match/tournament; Elizabeth N competed in a dance competition coming in first place; and Ellie S overcame her fear of rollercoasters at Alton Towers!
7EY: Everyone gained merits for their excellent work in History!
7MY: Kitty A-J sang at Friday Live and all of 7MY achieved merits in Music for singing as well!
7PX: Everyone is always nice to each other.
7PY: Well done 7PY for a fantastic equipment check with all students having everything they need for all their lessons! It can be easy to forget certain things within the busyness of the school day, so both the discipline and reliability with this are wonderfully impressive - well done!
Miss Monk
Head of Year 8
Miss Godsave
Deputy Head
of Year 8
Myself and Miss Godsave are so proud of the wonderful progress Year 8 have made so far. Each day, they impress us with their energy, enthusiasm, and growing confidence in their learning. It is a real joy to see them rise to new challenges, celebrate each other’s successes, and show such kindness and support towards one another.
Raising and Giving Week
Our Raising and Giving (RAG) Week was launched in assembly on Tuesday by the Senior Prefect Team. They spoke about the importance of fundraising and giving back to our community, as well as announcing the return of our legendary Rosebery Teachers' Top of the Pops! I have told the students to scream even louder if they see me on stage...
In the Classroom
I had the pleasure of visiting a Year 8 Food Nutrition and Preparation lesson with Mrs Watson, where the students were making pizza swirls. The delicious smell filled the room, but what really stood out was their dedication to ensuring they didn’t burn them! Their focus, creativity, and pride in their creations were fantastic to see - and to smell.
To capture this sense of pride in lessons, all Year 8 students have now received Challenge Cards. These are designed to help them demonstrate positive learner qualities, such as showing bravery by asking questions when they are unsure and increasing their confidence in class discussions. Once completed, students will receive an accolade on ePraise to mark their achievement, which also signifies the completion of their Being Prepared Programme in tutor time.
Looking Ahead
Next week, I look forward to celebrating the successes of the Year 8 Hockey Tournament and the Cross-Country Team, as well as continuing to observe positive behaviour in lessons. Please also remember to book a place at our upcoming Open Morning on Monday 13 October, where you will have the chance to be a “fly on the wall” and experience all things the Rosebery Way.

Ms Godwin
Head of Year 9
Mr Hewett
Deputy Head
of Year 9
It has been another excellent week for Year 9, who have been working hard both in lessons and at their extra-curricular clubs.
Literacy Thursday
During form time this week, Year 9 began their Literacy Thursday sessions with the novel Holes by Louis Sachar. This story blends mystery, humour, and heart in a unique and memorable way, sparking thoughtful discussions about justice and friendship.
Raising and Giving Week
The Senior Prefect Team led an assembly launching Raising and Giving (RAG) Week, introducing the fantastic charities we will be supporting each day and outlining the exciting events on offer. A particular highlight for many was the much-anticipated RAG Week video, which has left students eagerly looking forward to Teacher Top of the Pops!
Building Conversations at Home
It has also been wonderful to hear from so many Year 9 parents and carers about the power of their 15-minute conversations with their daughters following last week’s Information Evening. A reminder to log in to your ePraise app, where you can view your daughter’s points, demerits, homework, and interventions. This will help guide conversations at home, supporting your daughter to reach her full potential and begin building data about her subjects in preparation for options refinement in the Spring Term.

Mr Pingree
Head of Year 10
Mr Hewett
Deputy Head
of Year 10
It feels strange to say that we are already in October, and closer to the half-term break than to the start of term. Time is flying by in Year 10, and I am pleased that, as ever, this group has remained unwavering in their approach to their studies.
Study Skills
This week in form time, students have been practising Cornell Notes to strengthen their study skills. I have received some wonderful feedback on how diligently Year 10 applied themselves, and next week they will take the technique further by applying it to material of their own choosing.
Please do speak to your daughter about the study skills she is practising each week, and encourage her to use them little and often in her own time. Building revision into her routine now will help reduce stress when the summer exam series arrives and ensure the best chance of success.
Raising and Giving Week
The Senior Prefect Team also launched the yearly Raising and Giving (RAG) Week event in assembly, sharing the promotional video. As always, it promises to be a fantastic week where we raise money for charities that support important causes. Look out for more information on specific events for students soon.
Information Evening Follow-Up
Thank you again for your engagement with the Year Team following last week’s Information Evening. Our slides have now been published on the website, and the link to our study guide list is also available. Please do get in touch if you have any further questions.
Looking Ahead
Next week brings some key events:
The U15 football team play their second-round tie against Surbiton.
On Thursday, Miss Croft and I look forward to welcoming families of students attending the ski trip to our Ski Information Evening in the main hall.
Have a lovely weekend!

Mr Waight
Head of Year 11
Mrs Packham
Deputy Head
of Year 11
It has been a joy, as always, to step into lessons this week and to attend the Biology revision session afterschool yesterday. I continue to be impressed by the attention to detail and positive attitude demonstrated by Year 11 as a whole.
As the days grow shorter and the weather turns, I can imagine many students are starting to feel the fatigue. Lesson content has stepped up significantly from Year 10, and with us now halfway through the half term, the strain is becoming more noticeable. Over the next few weeks, our focus will be on preparing for the upcoming mock exams. On Wednesday 15 October, students will spend time during the afternoon of Student Futures Day receiving guidance on revision strategies. They will also be provided with an electronic document containing useful links, similar to the resource shared ahead of the Year 10 mocks.
Remarkable Student Highlight
This week’s remarkable student is Ava W 11EY, who was selected to be part of the England Hockey Talent Academy Cup in Nottingham—a showcase of the nation’s top junior players. Alongside representing Wimbledon Hockey Academy, she has also been selected for Epsom Hockey Club’s Women’s 1st XI, competing this season in the top South East Premier Division. This is a tremendous achievement, particularly as she is the youngest player on the team at just 15.
In addition, she has been chosen to join the Hockey Mentors Programme for potential junior internationals and has her first international tournaments coming up in Ireland, Holland, and Barcelona. We wish her the very best of luck as she balances playing hockey five times a week alongside her GCSEs this year!
Congratulations to Ava W

Autumn feels as though it has officially arrived, and students have already completed their first month back at school. Some look forward to this season with the promise of cosy jumpers, hot drinks, and more time indoors, while for others, the shorter days and colder temperatures can be a little less appealing.
Personal Development & Care (PDC)
Over the coming weeks, Year 12 will focus on both physical health and emotional well-being. Topics will include stress management, the importance of sleep, diet and exercise, and driving safety, as many students begin learning to drive. This week, Year 12 were also visited by The Hive and Mindmatters during assembly to learn more about the support services available in school.
For Year 13, looking after themselves will be especially important as they approach their first round of mock exams. PDC sessions will focus on preparation and revision techniques to support their mock exam readiness.
Useful Resources
Spending time with friends and family is just as important for well-being. For inspiration, here are some ideas for autumnal days out in London:

Our Year 8 Netball Team had an outstanding performance at the recent tournament held at home on Tuesday 23 September, playing a total of five games and winning them all to secure first place overall.
From the opening match to the final whistle of the last game, the team demonstrated incredible determination, improving noticeably with each performance. Their passing, communication and defensive play became sharper and more cohesive as the tournament progressed. What stood out most was the teamwork - every player supported one another both on and off the court and it was clear that their unity played a key role in their success.
Miss Dawson - PE Teacher
In what was the first game of their season, our U15 Team played against Oaks Park High School in the first round of the English Schools Cup, away at Oaks park on Thursday. The game started out close between both teams, but soon Rosebery were able to take a foothold in the match, with our attack threatening to break the deadlock. It wasn't until a wonder-goal from Fearne L 10EX in the 25th minute that Rosebery managed to lead and the goal just before the half time whistle blew couldn't have been better placed.
The second half was much like the first, with Rosebery dominating the ball and the defence thwarting anything that came their way. After more pressure on the opposition, we finally doubled the lead after some fantastic dribbling and a deft finish from Francesca B 10MY in the 45th minute. Throughout the game there were fantastic performances all over the pitch, including Brooke M 10PX (who was running the midfield), Lucy V 9PX (who was commanding in goal) and Flo S 10CY (with her great performance off the bench) to name just a few.
What a great start to the season - and we now await Surbiton High School in the second round! A special mention to Grace D 10CY, who was awarded Player's Player, and Clarice FS 10EY, who was awarded the Coach's Player.
Mr Pingree - Football Coach
Mr Bruton - Football Coach
Miss Croft - Head of PE
On Tuesday 30 September, our U14s Football Team competed against Ashcombe School at home. After a tense start (including the other side missing a penalty) Rosebery managed to take a foothold in the game; though it wasn't until Polly H 9EX stormed through their defence and scored a wonder-goal that Rosebery took full control just before half-time.
In the second half, the game was one-way traffic, with excellent football played throughout. Special mention goes to Izzy C 9MY for orchestrating the midfield with some fantastic passing, and to Lily S 9MY for her ever-resolute defence and her leadership of the team as captain.
Ultimately, Rosebery were able to score two more goals, with Polly H doubling her tally and Grace S 9MY grabbing one too (even assisting one another in the process). The final score was a deserved 3-0 result.
A great start to the year for the team and long may it continue!
