It’s been great to be back at school after the half-term break, although after Halloween and Guy Fawkes night I can’t quite believe it’s already time to start looking ahead to Christmas!
The girls have been great on their return, and patient with our teaching staff who have been getting to grips with working on laptops and the removal of classroom based PCs in favour of docking stations – I’m sure many of you are used to this in your workplace or at home, but it feels very 21st century for Rosebery! I must thank GLF Schools for financing and supporting this roll out.
November is also the time of year we conduct our stakeholder voice surveys, which serve as a valuable tool to measure how we are performing, and how we compare to this time last year. Over the coming weeks we will be sending out a parent & carer survey via email, conducting student surveys in PDC lessons, and also seeking the opinions of all Rosebery staff. Thank you in advance for your engagement and feedback in due course. It made a real difference last year, and I hope your daughter has reflected positively on recent improvements in the canteen, that you have felt the information and communication on the website and Instagram has improved, and that through various capital projects, the GLF Foundation and the Boundless Festival, that the role of the trust and benefit of being part of GLF schools is becoming clearer.
Indeed, I would encourage you to take a look at Taylor Shaw's page on our website, which now includes updated menus (High Street, Grab & Go and Breakfast) for this half term as well as a wealth of additional information (pricing, theme days, allergen management, etc.).
One of the other suggestions that arose last year was the potential role of a Parent Forum, to better understand parental voice in regard to specific school policies and initiatives. It may well prove to a terrible starting point (given how divisive the topic is!) but I’d like to launch our first such event this half term, with a Parent Forum on the topic of Technology in Schools.
This will offer a timely opportunity to meet with myself and other members of SLT to review the ongoing Blackout Pilot, gauge parent and carer views on whether they wish their daughters to have a mobile phone with them in school, and take a first step in exploring whether implementing a one to one device scheme at Rosebery (such as every student having a Chromebook or iPad) would now be deemed appropriate and desirable, in line with similar schemes many other schools have run for several years.
I’m not certain as to the level of demand for such an evening, but the first session is pencilled in for the evening of Thursday 27 November (6.00pm – 7.30pm) - places will be limited and a cross section of year group representation prioritised.
If you are interested in joining me at this Parent Forum – please complete this form and we will contact you in due course to confirm if you have been allocated a place.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Welcome back! We hope the half term break provided a well-earned rest and a chance for students to recharge after a busy and demanding start to the school year. We continue to be impressed by how well Year 7 have adapted to the transition to secondary school - it's a significant change, and they’ve handled it with maturity and resilience.
It’s been lovely to see students return settled and enthusiastic, sharing their joyful Weekly Wins with their tutor groups. These moments of positivity are a wonderful reflection of their growing confidence and sense of belonging.
Year 7 have also been given an exciting opportunity to lead the school’s fundraising efforts for Children in Need. Each form is planning a unique activity, aiming to raise as much money as possible for this important cause. Thank you in advance for your support - whether that’s helping students gather materials or encouraging them in their sponsorship efforts, if that’s their chosen activity.
Please note: if students are planning to sell food items, these must be clearly labelled with a full list of ingredients to ensure allergens are identified.
We’re also looking forward to our Children in Need Movie Night on Thursday 13 November 2025. A shortlist of films will be shared and put to a vote - so watch this space! Final details will be confirmed via email, so please keep an eye out.

The first week of Autumn 2 is complete, and Year 8 have returned to school rested, recharged, and ready for the term ahead! On Tuesday, students took part in an assembly focused on our expectations, routines, and goals for this half term. We explored how we can achieve our three key aims for the autumn term: improving lesson behaviour, developing integrity, and being kind to one another. To help support these aims, I’ve introduced a Lesson Behaviour Loyalty Card — think of it like the Costa Coffee app, but with a Year 8 twist! Students can earn stamps for demonstrating positive learning behaviours such as stepping outside their comfort zone, staying focused in class, or producing excellent homework.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Year 8 discussed our annual Children in Need fundraising event. Students have been expressing their creative ideas for sponsored activities — from crazy hair days and gingerbread decorating to a sponsored walk to a particular country. To add to the fun, we’ll also be hosting a Children in Need Movie Night on Friday 14th November, 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Students will vote together on the film choice, and we can’t wait to see everyone there. Who knows - maybe Pudsey Bear will make another special appearance this year!
I have had the pleasure this week of visiting lessons and observing some truly outstanding work from our students. Well done to 8PY in English with Mrs Kay, who worked collaboratively on their dystopian stories — it was fantastic to see such creativity and teamwork in action. 8MY were using mini whiteboards to explore promote messy thinking before committing ideas to their books, showing the importance of taking risks and developing confidence in their learning.
This week’s special shoutouts go to
Mia S 8PX - Mrs Watson was exceptionally proud of Mia’s high-quality and beautifully presented booklet in Food, Nutrition and Preparation
Verity W 8EY - for her dedication and pride in completing her Geography homework for Mr Boreham – a picture is attached!
Looking ahead, the Year 8 football team are busy, with matches against Oaks Park on Monday and Three Rivers on Thursday - good luck, girls! We can’t wait to hear how you get on. Next week also marks the launch of our new tutor time activities. Mindful Mondays will focus on context scenarios for Year 8 in particular which the students will discuss and find solutions to - for example, managing feelings of being overwhelmed with homework or navigating friendship turbulence. Warrior Wednesdays is another exciting new addition this term, designed to inspire the girls to aim high by learning about incredible women such as Junko Tabei, Kathrine Switzer, and many more!
As always, thank you so much for encouraging attendance and checking that your daughter wears her uniform with pride, it is much appreciated especially as the cold and dark winter mornings are approaching.

It has been wonderful to welcome Year 9 back to school this week, full of energy and ready to embrace the opportunities ahead this half term.
In Wednesday’s assembly, Ms Watson and I introduced the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to students. DofE is a non-competitive, inclusive programme that encourages young people to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and give back to their communities. Through taking part, students build confidence, resilience and independence - all while having fun with friends.
The Bronze DofE qualifying expedition will take place during Activities Week, and we hope that every student in Year 9 will take part. Last year, it was a highlight for many, alongside their graduation.
If you or your daughter are unsure about signing up, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with any questions by emailing DofE@roseberyschool.co.uk . If financial concerns are a barrier to participation, please do reach out—we may be able to offer support.
At Rosebery School, we are proud to offer:
Silver DofE in Year 10
Gold DofE in Year 12, including an overseas qualifying expedition - making us one of the few centres in the UK to do so.
Many alumni have left Rosebery with Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, and speak proudly of their achievements.
Further on are some DofE myth-busters and reasons to sign up, shared during Tuesday’s form time.

It has been wonderful to welcome Year 10 back into the building, and we’re pleased to see the momentum from the first half term continuing.
In this shorter week, students have been practising their study skills during form time, with a focus on targeted mind maps. We’ve explored not only what mind maps are, but also the thinking behind them and how they can be used effectively as part of a broader revision strategy.
Looking ahead, next week we will begin the process of target setting. In assembly, we’ll be discussing what this looks like for Year 10 and how students can set meaningful goals for what they hope to achieve by the end of their GCSEs. As mentioned at the Information Evening in September, we encourage you to begin conversations with your daughter about her aspirations and what steps she may need to take to reach them.
This week, Ms Godwin and Mrs Watson also spoke in assembly about the Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and what it entails for Year 10. Following such a successful Bronze expedition, we hope students will embrace the opportunity to take part in Silver and enjoy the many benefits it offers. If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit for your daughter, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of the team.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Students have been reminded to place their phone, smart watch and bag in their locker before registration and heading to the Sports Hall. Each student has a personalised timetable with seat numbers, helping them prepare and know which entrance to use.

We hope all students had a restful half term and were able to recharge. This half term promises to be a busy one, filled with opportunities for learning, enrichment, and community involvement. Please see below for key dates and updates.
Thursday 13 November and Friday 14 November – Year 7 & Year 8 Fundraiser (Children in Need). A huge thank you to all Year 12 students who are volunteering and supporting our fundraising activities. Your contribution helps make a real difference in our school community.
Friday 14 November – Art Trip. Students attending the trip will receive further details from the Art department.
PDC Focus – Emotional and Physical Wellbeing. This half term, PDC sessions will explore the links between health, sleep, diet, and social media use. Students will also take part in a safe driving course, as many begin their driving lessons. Teenagers who get less than 8 hours of sleep are three times more likely to experience poor mental health (Mental Health Foundation, 2023). A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains is linked to a 20% improvement in academic performance (British Nutrition Foundation, 2022). 1 in 5 new drivers are involved in an accident within their first year (Department for Transport, 2023), highlighting the importance of safe driving habits.
Study and Progress. Year 12 students have now completed a substantial portion of their A Level courses. We encourage them to revisit and refine their notes from last half term, and to use independent study time effectively. Consistent review and self-testing will make a significant difference.
Monday 24 November – Wednesday 3 December – Mock Exams. Mock exams are an essential part of your preparation for the summer series. Start early:
Create a revision timetable covering all subjects.
Practise past papers under timed conditions.
Focus on feedback from teachers to identify areas for improvement.
Friday 12 December – Geography ‘Tectonic Hazards’ Conference
Geography students will attend a specialist conference providing expert insight into tectonic processes and case studies, supporting A Level exam content.
Christmas fundraiser for the Sixth Form will be to support the Epsom pantry. More details to follow.
Friday 5 December to Sunday 7 December – Christmas Market Trip
A festive opportunity for both year groups to relax and enjoy some time together before the final push toward the end of term. A great chance to celebrate your hard work and build Sixth Form community spirit!
This half term is full of opportunities to learn, develop, and connect. Stay organised, look after yourselves, and continue striving for excellence — both academically and personally.
And if you need any support, please speak to the Sixth Form team. Our door is always open.

At Rosebery, we’re proud to be a school that’s both ambitious and joyful — and your voice helps us grow stronger.
From next week to 24 November, we’ll be inviting parents and carers to take part in our Stakeholder Voice Survey. It’s your opportunity to share how we’re supporting your child and how we can do even better.
Your feedback matters - and helps every Rosebery girl continue to stand tall, proud, and confident.
Full details and survey link will be shared next week.
Throughout November, the Rosebery MoBros are once again growing (or attempting to grow!) their finest moustaches in support of men’s health and the Movember Foundation.
Each week, staff taking part will gather for a photo to track progress and next week we will be sharing our first update along with a link to our donations page for anyone who would like to support the cause.
This year, we’ve added an extra twist… students will get to vote on what colour we should dye our moustaches at the end of the month! Expect some bold (and potentially regrettable) styles coming soon...

Don’t miss your chance to see our talented students bring history to life on stage!
Each week, we’ll be summoning a different noble house from our cast and crew to face the throne and answer some hard-hitting, crown-worthy questions - all with a SIX-style twist!
1. Besides ruling the stage in SIX, what’s your all-time favourite musical?
High School Musical (below far right) - Anisa R 7MX
Matilda: The Musical as it's a classic - Sophia P 9EY
2. Which song from SIX makes you want to grab a mic and belt it out in the shower?
My favourite song from SIX is 'Don’t Lose Your Head' because it got me popping and vibing as soon as I heard it play - Lyra N 7CX
Don't Lose Your Head - Margot G 7MX
3. If you could be any of the SIX queens, who would you be and why?
Sophie M 8MX - Anne Boleyn (below far left). My mum is really into Tudor stuff and we go to Hever Castle every November for a Christmas Fair that they host.
Darcy P 7EY - I would be Anne Boleyn, because I love her attitude and sass. I also love her song 'Don't Lose Your Head' and I have listened to it so many times! I think she is such a cool character.
Della D 7CX - I would be Katherine Howard (below left), because I LOVE pink!
Pippa T 8EY - Katherine Howard, because we're similar in personality and colour choice! I think that she had the worst experience as Henry's wife because she was only SEVENTEEN!
4. Who’s your ultimate inspiration in the world of performing arts?
My ultimate inspiration in the world of performing arts is KATSEYE (above right). They can sing, dance and even act, which makes them such a well-rounded group.
Alejandra N 8CY
5. You’re invited to a Tudor banquet — what dish are you bringing and why?
I would bring some vegetables and toothpaste because those Tudors NEED it, they have black teeth!
Beth G 9PX
6. If you were Queen for a day, what’s the first royal decree you’d make?
To make the world a happy and friendly place - Bethany T 7PX
We flipped the script and asked the director a question of their own: If your life were a musical, what would it be called - and what would the opening number be about?
If my life were a musical, it would be called "The Drama of it All" and would be about the trials and tribulations of a comprehensive school drama teacher, trying to juggle 6 million students, family, friends and life. The first song would be called "Military Precision" as that is how my household has to run in the morning, if anyone it is to get anywhere on time.
Mrs House-Lee - Acting Head of Drama
During the Tudor era, playwriting became a powerful tool for political commentary and entertainment. One of the most famous Tudor playwrights was William Shakespeare, who began writing during the reign of Elizabeth I, Henry VIII’s daughter. Elizabeth was a huge supporter of the arts, and her court helped theatre flourish. However, playwrights had to be careful - scripts were censored by the Master of the Revels, a royal official who ensured plays didn’t offend the monarchy or stir rebellion. So while Six gives voice to Henry VIII’s wives, Tudor playwrights had to tread carefully when writing about royalty - unlike today’s scriptwriters who can reimagine history with sass and sparkle!
Ever wondered who writes the words that bring musicals to life? Scriptwriters - also known as playwrights or book writers - are the creative minds behind the dialogue, story structure, and emotional journey of a show. Whether it’s a historical retelling like Six or a brand-new original piece, scriptwriters shape the world of the stage with every line. If you love storytelling, character creation, and a bit of drama, this could be the perfect path for you!
All cast and crew members must check the rehearsal schedule carefully to confirm when they are required. If you have any issues with your allocated dates, please speak to Mrs House-Lee or Mr Holloway as soon as possible.
Queens, please note that several new lunchtime rehearsals have been added. You are also now required on one additional Sunday afternoon, as well as for an evening call at the theatre on the Monday evening of show week. These new rehearsals are highlighted in red on the schedule.
At the end of last half term, a group of Year 7 and 8 girls took part in a badminton fixture against St Andrews, hosted here at Rosebery. Having home advantage gave our students valuable practice time before the visiting team arrived, helping them settle in and prepare confidently.
The fixture format involved each of our six players competing in a singles match against their opposite number, followed by a second singles match against the player ranked next to them. Rosebery got off to a flying start, winning five out of six matches in the first round. The second round was more evenly matched, with both teams securing three wins each.
The final two rounds saw the girls switch to doubles matches, each playing with two different partners. This tested their adaptability, as doubles play requires different rules and tactics compared to singles. Despite having never played together before, the Rosebery girls rose to the challenge brilliantly, winning five out of six doubles matches - a fantastic achievement!
The final score was an impressive 13–5 victory to Rosebery. Well done to all involved on this outstanding result! A special congratulations to Yan Kiu L 8CY and Rica W 8EX, who remained unbeaten throughout the entire fixture.
