If all goes to plan, you will be reading this (or at least it will have landed in your inbox) whilst the final performance of SIX: TEEN EDITION is in full swing at the Leatherhead Theatre.
In my 23 (!) years of teaching, I’m not sure I’ve ever been more proud - this was a powerful and joy-filled production of the very highest quality. I’d not seen the stage show before and was blown away - particularly taken and moved with how, for an all‑girls school such as Rosebery, the show resonates deeply with our commitment to female empowerment and how the cast and musicians captured that spirit with extraordinary confidence, talent, and unity. All the girls involved are phenomenal, and the inclusion of so many students was an inspiration – I still can’t believe some of them are still only 11 years old!
Their performances were everything Rosebery stands for: Ambitious & Joyful, Remarkable & Proud. Our students didn’t just tell the queens’ stories - they owned the stage with the strength and spirit of young women who know their voices matter. It was a phenomenal celebration of what our girls can achieve together and what this very special community is capable of. This, in my humble opinion, is state education at its very best – and we should all be incredibly proud of our girls and our staff for having the vision, drive and dedication to pull this off.
Cap doffed. Bar raised. #RoseberyRemarkable. #RoseberyProud.

As you can see from the students’ ‘Weekly Wins’, the atmosphere in Year 7 has been full of positivity this week, with so much to celebrate. It has been so great to watch the cast of SIX: TEEN EDITION having the time of their lives, and we hope that this will light a fire of passion for performing that will endure for many years to come. We might be biased, but we are especially proud of all the Year 7s who took part: putting yourself forward is never an easy thing to do, but to do so in a brand new school is an extra challenge. From queens to backstage, Year 7 have stood up and been counted this week and shown themselves to be both remarkable and proud.
Amongst the busyness last week, with preparations for SIX: TEEN EDITION and for the Elephant’s Tea Party, we omitted to mention that Year 7 also participated in their ‘onboarding session’ for our ‘Girls on Board’ programme. This was designed in response to students sharing that they want to be able to resolve their own friendship struggles, without well-meaning adults getting involved (and sometimes not helping the situation). Students considered a range of problems that can arise in different group dynamics and were introduced to terms to help them understand their friendships better. After half term, we will build on this in form time, giving students bite-sized sessions on navigating friendships.
Should you wish to know more, the programme is based on the excellent book, When Girls Fall Out, written by a former headteacher and his two daughters - one a lawyer and the other a psychologist – which is well worth a read.

This week, I delivered an assembly to Year 8 centred around 'Making the Right Decisions'. We focused on maintaining high standards of behaviour in lessons and the personal responsibility students have in ensuring their conduct reflects the values and ethos of Rosebery. It has been wonderful to see the positive impact of this message so quickly. Mrs Watson emailed to celebrate the excellent attitude of 8CX, saying: “I just wanted to say that 8CX were amazing in RS on Tuesday. All students worked really hard on researching and preparing presentations on modern-day racism, demonstrating courageous confidence.”
Following this, Year 8 also enjoyed highly successful Food Preparation and Nutrition lessons, producing Pizza Whirls while demonstrating a strong understanding of food science and the use of raising agents - I could smell them cooking right across the quad! These moments are a great reflection of the remarkable focus, enthusiasm, and pride students are taking in their learning.
There has also been a real buzz across the year group with SIX launching on Wednesday night. Many students are eagerly looking forward to watching the performance this evening and proudly supporting their peers on stage. The energy, commitment, and talent shown by the cast and crew have been truly impressive, and it is fantastic to see such enthusiasm for the performing arts within Year 8 - something we hope will continue to grow throughout their time at Rosebery.
Finally, I am incredibly proud of Year 8’s attendance efforts this half term. It has been wonderful to see 40 students maintaining their 100% attendance streak. As we approach the half term break, please continue to encourage positive attendance habits - and hopefully, as the days grow lighter, getting up in the mornings will become that little bit easier!

It has been a pleasure to drop into Year 9 lessons this week and see students thinking hard and collaborating brilliantly. In Sociology, Year 9 were examining how Content Analysis is used in the media to analyse the frequency of ethnic diversity, the portrayal of the ‘ideal family’, and representations of violence. They then applied this themselves by carrying out Content Analysis on the frequency and types of violent connotations in a familiar cartoon.
In Food Preparation and Nutrition, students were researching different types of raising agents and the conditions they require, ahead of their cooking practical later this week, where they will put their knowledge into practice by making a Swiss Roll.
In PE, students worked in teams to label the structure of the heart, consolidating what they have recently learned in the Circulatory System topic in Biology. And finally, in Business Studies, students collaborated in small groups to develop detailed business plans for their own ideas, including refillable perfumes, affordable fashion and pet cafés. Keep up the hard work, Year 9!
This week in form time, Mr Hewett led a virtual assembly on Honesty and Integrity. He explained that honesty is not only about telling the truth, but also about expressing how you feel, being responsible online and on social media, owning your mistakes, and being truthful in your friendships — including not pretending to agree with gossip just to fit in. He also shared that integrity is about doing the right thing even when no one is watching, taking responsibility, and standing up for what is right. Next week, teachers will be looking for opportunities to award Year 9 students points on ePraise for acting with honesty and integrity in and outside of lessons. Please keep an eye on your daughter’s ePraise and celebrate any points earned for ‘Showing Respect’, ‘Showing Kindness’ and ‘Showing Integrity’.
Finally, we are excited to announce the launch of the Year 9 Graduation Committee, ahead of our celebration marking the transition from lower school to upper school in May!

This week I've been very impressed with the way that Year 10 have been tackling their assessments, particularly their core subjects, which Year 10 have been approaching with diligence and dedication. I have been incredibly impressed furthermore, with the number of students who have been taking the opportunity to make use of our Year 10 Study Club, which runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. I must say, I’d have been pleased for any number of Year 10 to utilise this, but I am blown away by the demand for this and the regularity with which Year 10 attend. To have over 70 sign-ups over both days really is a testament to the hard work of the year group!
At the time of writing, I am excited to go and see many Year 10 performers in our production of SIX: TEEN EDITION this evening. I have heard some wonderful things about the show from those who have seen this already, and I am filled with anticipation to see the culmination of months of hard work for the Music, Drama and DT departments, as well as our Year 10 students in the cast!
Finally, some celebration this week for Jaime-Leigh P 10PX. As you’ll know, Jaime-Leigh is a talented dancer, and often sees success both with her team and personally. Last weekend, the team competed at UDO in Essex, and while the competition had a tough field, Jaime-Leigh's team placed 1st in the competition! A wonderful achievement in itself, but it also means that the team will subsequently be competing at the worlds in Blackpool later this year. Congratulation on your victory, and your hard work Jaime-Leigh!

Although I am very biased, the highlight this week has to be our performance of SIX: TEEN EDITION! What an experience for our students who have not only made memories, but who have been a part of something very special that has developed life skills and confidence.
I continue to be in awe of Year 11 students who have managed to juggle rehearsals to be part of the cast, crew and band, and still be in school every day, on top of homework and a sprinkle of revision in there too!

Dear Students and Parents,
We would like to share a few important updates and celebrate recent successes within our Sixth Form community.
Personal Development Curriculum (PDC)
Year 13: The next PDC focus for Year 13 will be forced marriage. All resources have been uploaded to Google Classroom to support continued discussion at home.
Year 12: PDC is now underway for Year 12, with a focus on healthy relationships. This topic begins by exploring the importance of relationships and the characteristics of both healthy and unhealthy relationships.
Year 12 Trip – University of Surrey
Year 12 students will be visiting the University of Surrey on Monday 3 March. Please ensure payment has been made via ParentPay. Thank you to the parents who have kindly volunteered to accompany the trip - further details will be shared next week.
Year 12 Reports
In February, Year 12 reports will be sent home for parents to review students' progress during the first half of the academic year. Students have already received feedback and should be using this daily to support their behaviour for learning. This will help prepare them for positive outcomes in the Year 12 exams taking place in April.
Celebrating Our Students
We are extremely proud of our Sixth Form cohort for their support and outstanding performances in SIX: TEEN EDITION. Their dedication and enthusiasm were a credit to the school.
Early School Closure – Tuesday

Please remember that Rosebery school supports SEND students with sensory needs by encouraging the use of a fidget toy called a tangle. Extensive research promotes the tangle to be supportive of sensory and fidget needs so we fully endorse the use of these when discussed with the SEND team. Please ensure that your daughter does not bring in to school anything other than this as it will be removed from her and made available for your collection. This is to support the engagement and support of all of Rosebery's students in lessons.
Any queries please contact sendco@roseberyschool.co.uk

The U15 indoor cricket tournament on Wednesday 14 January 2026 saw strong performances against both Nonsuch and St Andrew's, with clear growth shown across the day. Against Nonsuch, the team delivered an excellent bowling spell, keeping the run rate low through consistent lines and disciplined fielding. Despite the pressure they created, the match ultimately slipped away, but the effort and control with the ball stood out as a major positive.
The girls then carried this momentum into the match against St Andrew's, coming out with renewed determination and a visible spark. An outstanding bowling performance saw many wickets fall, applying constant pressure and setting the platform for success. This was followed by strong, confident batting, with the girls rotating the strike well and capitalising on scoring opportunities to secure a well‑deserved win.
Across the tournament, skills developed significantly, with clear improvements in bowling accuracy, batting confidence, game awareness and teamwork. The squad showed great motivation, spirit and resilience, making it a highly encouraging tournament overall.

On Monday 19 January, the Rosebery squash team travelled to Kent to play their next round in the National Schools Squash Competition. Our hosts were Benenden, and as we were the only two schools in the group, we knew we had to be ready to win the fixture to progress to the next round. After a long 1.5 hours on the minibus, the girls needed a good amount of time to warm up and stretch before the games commenced. The format of the fixture was the same as the previous round, where all five players played their equal ranking in three games up to 11 points. At the end of all five matches, the team with the most points scored would be the winners.
Our first two games were with Arlia P 8CX and Caitlyn K 9CX, who put in very determined performances and wouldn’t let Benenden get away with an easy game. Caitlyn had even played squash in the morning before school to get some extra practice in, and this paid dividends as she secured lots of points against her opponent but unfortunately didn’t secure the win (8–11, 8–11, 10–11). Arlia struggled in her first game, but after a quick reset and a chat with her coaches, she came back fighting in the next two games and really improved her performance, gaining valuable points (2–11, 8–11, 9–11).
With the first two matches going to Benenden, we knew we had to win the next ones to qualify further. Aoife V 8PY and Cali B 10CX played next and really stepped up the pressure! Both girls have improved since the last round, and Aoife has an immense amount of power in her shots that her opponent really struggled to return. She won her three games very convincingly (11–3, 11–4, 11–5). Cali also had some brilliant games, particularly the first, which she won 11–1! The next two games were slightly more challenging as her opponent increased their quality of play (11–10, 10–11).
Stepping into our final game, the pressure was really on Hazel P 10EX. She had to win to secure the overall victory, but Hazel did not let this affect her and took it all in her stride. As always, she was calm and composed on court and secured the three wins with ease (11–4, 11–3, 11–4).
Well done, girls, for another fantastic performance and superb team effort! You really are such a great group of players, and the way you present yourselves on and off the court is admirable. Thank you to our excellent Sixth Form coaches once again for travelling with us and giving the girls invaluable advice.
Mrs Hart-McKee - PE Teacher
Last Saturday 17 January, a group of very talented girls attended the Surrey Schools Cross Country Championships at Prior Park in Reigate. They were selected from the District rounds which took place last year and, in itself, this is a terrific achievement considering the number of girls who ran. The course was once again much shorter than what they are used to running and included a mixture of terrains — the gravel being one that didn’t work well with the spikes!
The results have just been released and below are some of the highlights. A huge congratulations to all the girls who were selected to run in this very prestigious event.
Eliza G 7MY finished 26th out of 88 with an incredible time of 13m 20s.
Darci V-R 10MY finished 42nd and Abihail P 10MX 45th out of 93 runners.
The girls involved were Eliza G, Izzy C 9MY, Mimi B 9MY, Francesca A 9EY, Abihail P, Fiona W 10CY and Darci V-R

Rosebery School proudly made its debut at the Individual Schools Swimming Gala, with 14 swimmers competing across the Junior, Intermediate, and Senior age categories. The team took part in the 100m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly events, as well as the challenging 200m Individual Medley.
The day was made even more special by the outstanding support shown throughout the event. Officials repeatedly commented on the positive atmosphere created by the Rosebery team, noting the way all the girls stood together at the end of the lane, cheering and encouraging one another during every race. Their teamwork, sportsmanship, and school spirit were a true highlight of the gala.
This first appearance was a fantastic achievement for Rosebery School and showcased not only the swimmers’ determination and effort in the pool, but also the strong sense of unity and encouragement they displayed out of it.
Swimmers who competed and should be very proud of themselves are Rita C 8MX, Alice C 8PX, Jess K-Q 8PX, Niamh D-K 8CY, Ophelia W 8CY, Naomi F 9CX, Elsie D 9MX, Alice C 10PX, Elizabeth B 11CX, Rebecca D 11MY, Elle W 11CY, Isobel S 11PY and Darcie W 12JAH.
