It’s been a fab week at Rosebery with much to celebrate throughout Rosebery News.
In the Sports Section, you can read about the Year 8 (U13) Football team and their victory on Monday, down on the south coast, which has resulted in them progressing to the 6th round of the English Schools Football Association Cup – this is the furthest a Rosebery Team has ever progressed in this National Competition! There have also been further victories for Year 7 and Year 8 netball teams, a sport which continue to lead and flourish in – keep up the great work ladies.
We’ve also launched our Girls On Board programme with Year 7 this week, which as many of you will know and remember, is a key part of our personal development and wellbeing programme that really helps our students explore and navigate the challenges of being a teenage girl in the modern era.
Year 7 have also been learning to talk about and live with grief and bereavement with Elephants Tea Party running throughout the week and culminating this afternoon.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards Night took place on Thursday, and is was fantastic to celebrate our award winning programme – which goes (and grows!) from strength to strength. Students and parents were treated to a wonderful speech by Lexi Chambers, an Army veteran, former NHS nurse and five-time world record holder whose website is well worth a read – she is a truly inspirational young woman who gave an incredibly motivating address.
The DofE programme and this event has become so successful that I must apologise to those of you who had to stand in the Hall in cramped conditions – there was unprecedent demand for spaces – so next year we will move this event to the Sports Hall.
And you can’t miss the fact that it’s been SIX Week at Rosebery – the cast, crew and Senior Prefect Team have done a fabulous job at drumming up support and excitement for the show next week. It’s brilliant to be returning to a venue such as Leatherhead Theatre and to be putting on such a professional show – as befits our talented students. It’s not too late to grab the few remaining tickets, meanwhile you may enjoy some of the pictures below from behind the scenes and SIX Week – which has included the Queens performing in assemblies throughout the week, sweet and bake sales, dance workshops, a scavenger hunt, ‘divorced – beheaded – pied!’ – and the costume catwalk show this lunchtime!
No doubt the show will dominate next week, but we are also delighted to be welcoming a group of Taiwanese exchange students on Monday, who will being buddied by students in Year 7 and 8 for the next fortnight – I know our students will all be incredibly welcoming to our guests and that our girls will equally benefit from this cultural and social experience. Year 11 are sneaking in a trip to Hamilton on Tuesday evening, which is also a fabulous show to see.
Finally, if I circle back to where I began - there is the small matter of the next round of the U13 EFSA Cup – with the Year 8s playing against Chislehurst School for Girls (Bromley) on Monday. #RoseberyProud
Have a great weekend everyone.

Excitement for SIX is certainly ramping up this week! In assembly we were treated to a sneak preview of the story behind each of the protagonists, and a performance from the six queens themselves, including our very own Isla H 7CY. Performing in front of your peers always brings a different kind of pressure, but Isla and her fellow queens were fantastic. Shoutouts to Belles T 7CX and Elsie-Joy K 7CY, who also performed later in the week.
As a school, we have been celebrating SIX: TEEN EDITION all week, with a range of activities organised by the Senior Prefect Team. Year 7 have been absolutely brilliant at getting involved in everything from the dance workshop to the queens' catwalk (and of course, the sale of lollipops and ‘Krispy Queens’!). As a year group, one of their biggest strengths is that Year 7 embrace everything the school has to offer – long may this continue!
Life is all about light and shade, and in addition to all the fun, Year 7 have also been focusing on grief this week, with the Elephant’s Tea Party taking place in form time and Period 5 today. Students have been learning about the natural reactions that grief can provoke, and how to honour the memories of loved ones with activities such as the memory making this afternoon. Again, we were so impressed by the students’ maturity and compassion towards others this week and we are so proud of them!
🏆 WEEKLY WINS 🏆
7CX: Courtney M-F perfected two new cheer tumbles, Amreen H won first place in badminton, Willow B beat her PB in cross country and Emma K perfected a new gymnastics move.
7CY: Isla H and Elsie K sang in assembly, Ava L, Skyler A, Nula K won 14-1 in netball against St Andrew’s, and Brooke W got a round of backhand springers in cheer.
7EX: Hannah R landed her first aerial, and Nirvayah A has been given a main role for Stagecoach.
7MY: Eliza G competed in a Surrey School Cross Country event. Elsewhere, well done to those that have been rehearsing long and hard for SIX: TEEN EDITION at the weekend and in the evenings. Emilia D, Rose P and Eliza G competed in the District Netball Tournament and the team came 3rd, Lois P has cup games in football and rugby next week, and Annabelle B and Scarlett S are ready for their Taiwanese buddies to arrive next week.
7MX Well done to all of those who have been working really hard on their SIX: TEEN EDITION rehearsals - it will be amazing!
7PX: All students are extremely proud of the SIX: TEEN EDITION cast for their resilience, having rehearsed for five hours for their school production.
7PY: Our form has received an incredible amount of pink tokens as we work towards our records of achievement!

As you can tell from our Weekly Wins, this week has been filled with competitive spirit as we celebrate the huge efforts of our Year 8 football team. For the first time in Rosebery history, they have made it through to the final 16 schools in the country in the EFSA Cup! After a smashing 5–1 win against The Priory in Lewes, we now look forward to the quarter-final of the ESFA Cup next week against Weydon.
In assembly this week, we were treated to a harmonious snippet from our SIX: TEEN EDITION school production. It is fantastic to see so many Year 8s involved who are really pushing themselves outside their comfort zones. Tickets are still available to purchase on ParentPay, and this is a wonderful way for your daughter to support her peers while also being inspired to get involved in extra-curricular activities, helping to boost her confidence.
It has also been a pleasure to visit lessons this week and observe the enthusiasm and hard work across Year 8. In Science, 8MX worked with Mrs Cartron and listened beautifully to instructions, resulting in a highly productive practical lesson. Meanwhile, 8CX impressed in Art with Mr Hewett, working hard on their shading and portrait skills. During form time this week, Year 8 students were designing page two of their Be Proud magazine, titled ‘All About the Author’. Both 8MX and 8EX showed that they are artists in the making!
Finally, as we head into next week, please take the time to discuss uniform and attendance with your daughter. Unfortunately, standards around uniform are beginning to slip, particularly with school shoes and the wearing of blazers. Thank you also for encouraging your daughter to attend school, even if she is feeling slightly under the weather, as every moment counts towards her learning and progress.
🏆 WEEKLY WINS 🏆
8CX: Kaitlyn D - for being selected for the Ultimate Frisbee GB U17 Women’s Squad 2026. Well done, Kaitlyn!

8MY: Well done to Olivia C for being part of the U13 Football team that qualified for the top 16 in England on Monday!
8PX: There was some amazing competitive spirit from Chloe V for scoring a hat-trick for the Rosebery football team, with Mia S being voted Player of the Match by the opposite team.
8PY: Sophia C and Lauren K were part of the U13 football team that qualified for the top 16 in England on Monday.

Year 9 have shown excellent resilience, integrity and determination this week, working hard in their Science and History assessments. They approached each challenge with maturity, supporting one another, revising thoughtfully and demonstrating a real commitment to doing their best. Impressively, 70.4% of points awarded this week were for ‘Personal Integrity’, recognising acts such as respect, responsibility, discipline and attendance at extracurricular clubs. Well done, Year 9!
While hard work is fantastic, please remind your daughter of the importance of organisation, punctuality and uniform. Students should pack all equipment the night before, including calculators for Maths and Science, hair bobbles for practical subjects and PE kits. Punctuality is crucial – every minute missed is a lost learning opportunity, and lateness means missing the ‘do-now’ starter, which recaps essential prior knowledge. Please check ePraise regularly and use points and demerits to guide meaningful conversations about learning. Thank you for supporting our uniform policy, which can be found on the Rosebery website.
Finally, thank you to Mr Holloway and members of the SIX: TEEN EDITION cast for leading an inspiring assembly on Henry VIII’s six wives, complete with a snippet of the show! It has really helped us get into the spirit of the musical – don’t forget to purchase your tickets on ParentPay so you don’t miss out!

This week, Year 10 had a sneak preview from some of the cast of next week’s SIX: Teen Edition performances. I am blown away by the dedication this group of students has shown, and I’m excited to see the final product during the performances next week. There’s still time to purchase your tickets if you don’t want to miss out on what will undoubtedly be one of the best Rosebery productions yet! A special mention to the SPT, who have planned some fantastic events to promote the show this week.
In form time this week, we have kept a whole-school focus on integrity. I am especially interested in this with Year 10, and how vital it is for everyone to act with integrity in all their day-to-day actions. Integrity has been a crucial part of the year team ethos since Year 8, so I am pleased to see such wonderful conversations happening around this and how Year 10 can showcase it at all times.
Finally, a huge thank you to Ms Godwin, Mrs Watson and Miss Morris for hosting our DofE Awards Evening last night. It’s a real testament to the hard work and sheer number of students who have undertaken this award that the hall was packed with keen supporters yesterday evening.
Have a lovely evening!

Another busy week for Year 11 whilst they continue with their French and Spanish speaking exams, conclude the English ‘walking, talking mock’, attend revision and intervention sessions, SIX school production rehearsals, DofE awards evening and on top of that protect their books and flashcards from the rain and wind!
A huge well done again to those who have completed their DofE Bronze and Silver and who collected their awards last night, as well as those who stood and spoke in front of everyone.
Next week, we have our revision week in English, Maths and Science lessons, where students will be exploring the best ways to revise in these subjects, as well as learning and refreshing revision hints and tips during form time each morning.
Thank you for responding to our ‘Revision on the Rocks’ invite (Insert link here) which will take place at Rosebery School on Thursday 5 February 2026 from 5.30pm to 7.00pm. On this evening, you are invited to experience taster revision sessions from core subject areas. These will be led by Rosebery teachers, who will share their guidance about what:
makes effective independent study in their subject,
which activities you should be seeing your daughter complete at home, and
how you can support even further.
We believe that this will be a hugely beneficial evening, with you having an opportunity to gain an even better insight about effective revision and exam preparation.
Finally we are so proud of Heidi R 11CY, Pip R 9CY, Ella P 11PX and Scarlett M (alumnae)’s band Bloodlines, who following their success at winning Battle of the Bands, were awarded a day in The Hive Rooms recording studios.
Last week their first two singles, ‘fade’ and ‘I know you know’, were launched on Spotify – (click on the song title to listen) and last night, featured on 'BBC introducing' and played on BBC Surrey & Sussex radio.
As always, parents, family and friends, as well as the Rosebery community are incredibly proud as the girls are doing this alongside their studies and other hobbies. Well done, Bloodlines!

It has been a busy start to the term, and Year 12 have settled back in brilliantly. Over the past two weeks, students have completed their first round of spring assessments and are now receiving detailed feedback to help identify strengths and areas for development. Parents will receive full written reports on Tuesday 3 February.
The next formal assessment window will run from Monday 20 April to Tuesday 28 April, so students are encouraged to reflect on feedback and begin planning their revision. Personal Tutors will support this process by helping students create structured revision plans.
Next week’s assembly will launch the Year 12 Work Experience Programme, taking place from Monday 13 July to Friday 17 July. Students will be responsible for arranging their own placements, and further guidance will be provided.
Finally, a reminder about the Surrey University Fair on Tuesday 3 March. Please ensure payment is made via ParentPay. If you can help with the trip, please contact Mrs Cooley by email.
Following Parents’ Evening, Mr Phillips has shared advice with students on planning revision ahead of their next mock exams, which begin Monday 9 March. All students are expected to complete a revision timetable and share it with their Personal Tutor before half term. These will also be shared with parents to help you support your child at home.
You can help by:
Encouraging balance – include breaks, sleep and downtime.
Keeping communication open – listen and reassure.
Promoting independence – guide planning but allow ownership.
Looking after wellbeing – encourage healthy habits.
Staying positive about next steps – remind them there are many pathways to success.
Next week, Art NEA will be completed – good luck to our artists! In PDC, students will explore honour-based violence. If you have concerns, please email me. A recommended resource is the BBC drama Murdered by My Father on iPlayer, which offers a powerful discussion point.
Thank you for your continued support as we guide Year 13 through this crucial stage. Top ePraise points this week go to Genevive B 12ELR and Marta N 13OJM.

1. Besides ruling the stage in SIX, what’s your all-time favourite musical?
Isla H 7CY - This may sound like a cliché but it is definitely Six! However, Mamma Mia and Les Miserables are both just behind it.
2. Which song from SIX makes you want to grab a mic and belt it out in the shower?
Amber C 9PY - 'Mega SIX' for sure! It’s the ultimate mashup moment where every queen’s solo comes together in one explosive encore. The energy is electric, the lyrics are ridiculously catchy and, honestly, the whole vibe just makes you want to leap out of your seat and dance - shower acoustics and all. It’s the kind of song that practically demands you pick up an imaginary mic and go full pop-star mode.
3. If you could be any of the SIX queens (duh, but another!), who would you be and why?
Molly U 9PY - I absolutely love being Jane Seymour, however if I could be any queen I would choose Katherine Howard just because I love her sassiness and the enthusiasm that she brings to the stage. I also love her song and overall personality throughout the play.
4. Who’s your ultimate inspiration in the world of performing arts?
Natalia O 10MY - It would have to be Audrey Hepburn. She was an amazing actress winning multiple awards and she acted both on screen and in the west end. My favourite film of hers has to be Breakfast at Tiffany's! She also had an inspirational life behind the screen as well, as she was a nurse in WW2, showing outstanding bravery! She was one of the most ionic actresses of the old Hollywood era.
5. You’re invited to a Tudor banquet — what dish are you bringing and why?
Chloé L - I would bring something sweet and homemade because I love baking! For example, a fruit tart!
6. If you were Queen for a day, what’s the first royal decree you’d make?
Duda A 10CY - I’d reform the education system so that, rather than relying on GCSEs, we use a more practical and less stressful method of assessment .One that doesn’t unfairly define students futures based on how they handle exam pressure.
We zoomed in on the design desk and asked the creative director behind the socials a question of his own: If your life were a poster campaign, what would the tagline be - and what colours would dominate the design?
If my life were a West End production, it would be called Think Pink!
I’ve always loved drama, musical theatre and anything pink; the brighter, the better!
Think Pink! would be a high-energy, feel-good musical celebrating confidence, creativity and the power of women supporting women. The soundtrack would be pure pop: bold, uplifting and full of those sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs moments that remind you anything is possible. As the final curtain falls, I’d want the audience to leave feeling inspired to take up space, lift each other up and shine in their own spotlight. Life is brighter when you lead with kindness, courage and a touch of sparkle... and there’s always room for a little more pink in the world!
Mrs Mariner – Deputy Head: Culture & Standards
In Tudor times, acting was strictly a boys’ club - literally! Women weren’t allowed to perform on stage, so all female roles were played by young boys whose voices hadn’t yet broken. That means every queen, lady, and damsel in distress was portrayed by a boy in a wig and a dress!
So, next time you see our cast bringing the SIX queens to life, remember - they’re doing what Tudor actors could only dream of: telling HERstory, their way!
Make‑up artists are the creative visionaries who transform performers using colour, texture, and design. From crafting natural looks to creating dramatic characters, they use artistic flair and careful attention to detail to help tell the story on stage and screen. Their work can shape a character’s personality, mood, or even age - all through the power of make‑up.
It’s a career for someone who loves experimenting with design, working with their hands, and collaborating closely with others. Make‑up artists need to be flexible, imaginative, and great communicators, often using their initiative to solve problems on the spot. If you enjoy being creative, adapting to new challenges, and bringing ideas to life, the world of make‑up artistry might be your perfect spotlight career.
Raffle Donations Needed – Help Make SIX Week Sparkle!
As we gear up for our dazzling school production of SIX: Teen Edition, we’re planning a raffle to run during performance week - and we’d love your support! We’re inviting donations of raffle prizes, especially any unwanted Christmas gifts, or unused items that are still in good condition. Think pamper sets, books, candles, chocolates, novelty items - anything someone else might enjoy winning!
All proceeds will go towards supporting future student productions and enrichment activities, helping us keep the creative energy alive at Rosebery.

The Year 8 Football team made the long trip to Priory School in Lewes on Monday and delivered an outstanding performance, securing a fantastic 5–1 victory in the fifth round of the U13 ESFA Cup.
It was an incredible start to the new year for the team, as this win sees the girls progress to the sixth round of the competition, placing them among the top 16 teams in the country. This is an exceptional achievement and marks the furthest any Rosebery football team has progressed in this national competition.
The first half was evenly contested, with both teams enjoying significant spells of possession. Rosebery broke the deadlock in the final five minutes of the first half when Scarlett S 8EY opened the scoring to give the team a crucial lead going into the break.
In the second half, Rosebery raised their intensity and dug deep, keeping the opposition under constant pressure. Some excellent skill and composure in possession led to four further goals. Chloe V 8PX was outstanding, scoring a superb hat-trick that firmly established Rosebery as the dominant side, while Sophia C 8PY added another goal to complete the scoring.
Player of the Match: Mia S 8PX
Coach’s Player: Kaitlyn D 8CX, for her strong presence in midfield and consistent support in both attack and defence
Players’ Player: Chloe V 8PX, for her incredible hat-trick and match-winning second-half performance
Miss Croft - Head of PE
Last Wednesday evening, the Year 7 and 8 netball teams travelled to St Andrew's School to play a league fixture – and didn’t they do well!
Both teams had very convincing wins, with the Year 7s winning 14-1 and the Year 8s 14-7.
I started umpiring the Year 8 team and was very impressed with how they began the game with not much warm-up time (due to the impending dark skies coming in)! Molly M took the first centre, and the attacking players dominated the scoring end in the first quarter with a 5-0 lead. After a little shift around for the second quarter and Kaitlyn D moving into the shooting circle, the girls increased their lead to 8-0 by half-time. At this point, I headed off to umpire the Year 7 game, but the Year 8s were in a comfortable position, and I knew they would get the win – especially as Ellie M was shooting so well and Molly E and Jess K were doing such a brilliant job in defence!
The Year 7s also had a fantastic start, and when I arrived for the third quarter, they were in a commanding lead of 8-0! The girls were playing very well together and had a good rhythm down the court. Rose P had been shooting brilliantly, and the defence were superb in making sure the ball didn’t even get into the D! After changing a few players around to trial some new positions, the girls continued their lead and clean sheet into the final quarter with a score of 11-0. As the final quarter approached, we did a slight bit of versatility, but the girls handled this really well and adjusted themselves in their new roles, finishing with a final score of 14-1!
A fantastic set of results and a particular well done to Molly M in Year 8 for getting Player of the Match and to Emilia D and Lily W for getting Players of the Match for the Year 7 team.
