It was lovely to be joined by some Rosebery ‘Old Girls’ first thing this morning to see off Amelie, Holly, Bia (Aureus School Alumnae) and Lorcan – as they started their 57-mile charity walk from Epsom to Didcot to raise money for The MSA Trust, in honour of a beloved former Rosebery teacher, Carolyn Saul. We wish them all the very best of luck.
Ms Saul worked at Rosebery for 19 years before relocating to Oxfordshire to work at Aureus School, a then new school with the GLF Trust. It is incredibly apt that these three thoughtful young ladies are walking from Rosebery to Aureus, to honour her career, in advance of her retirement party. Carolyn remains in the thoughts of the Rosebery community as she battles this life-limiting neurodegenerative condition that currently has no cure.
If you’d like to donate to their fundraising efforts, you can do so via the link below:
Elsewhere this week I must commend Year 11 on their mature and determined approach to their Pre-Public Exams this week, which has really impressed all colleagues, these continue next week so – keep up the great work girls. Team Geography have been out completing fieldwork with Year 12, Year 10 benefitted from a University Careers Visit on Thursday, following on from their work with Platform 17 the week before. There was also a great sporting success for one of our students on the squash courts of Epsom College – you can read more about Aoife’s achievement later in Rosebery News.
Looking ahead to next week, our focus will be on International Women’s Week which will be spotlighted in assemblies and around the entire school site – thank you in advance to Miss Bailey for championing this. It’s also Year 9 Parents’ Evening on Thursday, and please don’t forget that we close early on Wednesday for Rosebery Collaborates. Students will be dismissed at 1pm, and there will be no lunch service in the canteen that day.
Finally, I wanted to also make families aware that the sentencing hearing in the case regarding Gemma Devonish is due to take place on Thursday and Friday of next week. Several Rosebery colleagues have submitted victim impact statements to support the sentencing process, and I have also written to His Honour Judge Gower KC on behalf of the entire Rosebery community. I am mindful that the there is likely to be media interest and press reporting regarding the sentencing that may include details from the hearing, that will be very upsetting and distressing for us all to hear. I, therefore, wanted you to be made aware of this in advance, so you can talk to and help support your daughter at home, in advance, should you wish to, as well as ensuring you are forewarned with this information should it become a prominent news story. Please be assured that we are ready and prepared to offer the girls any support that they might need in school, and as ever, do reach out if you are concerned for your daughter’s wellbeing at any point.
Have a lovely weekend.

As highlighted in this week’s Weekly Wins, Year 7 continue to impress us with their wide range of talents and interests. It is a joy to work with such engaged young people.
This half term’s House competition is House Cheer - always one of the biggest and most spirited events of the year. With International Women’s Week approaching, it’s a fantastic chance for students to celebrate how girls support girls, working together as full form teams to create their routines. We can’t wait to see their collaboration and creativity in action!

It has been a real pleasure to welcome Year 8 back to school, especially with the recent glimpse of the warmer, brighter days that spring promises. Thank you very much for your continued support in encouraging your daughter to wear her uniform with pride. This includes following our expectations regarding natural eyelashes, correct school shoes and wearing her blazer.
It was wonderful to see 8CX performing in Drama, particularly given the dedication and focus they have shown throughout their rehearsals. In Spanish, 8PY contributed beautifully while practising their past, present and future vocabulary, which they have now confidently mastered. In PDC, Year 8 have been exploring their options, considering what post‑16 education looks like and asking thoughtful questions of their teachers about different subjects. This links well to the next stage of their journey as Year 8 will be refining their curriculum choices, which will be discussed further at our Curriculum Refinement Evening on Thursday 26 March.
Next week, we will be marking International Women’s Week at Rosebery, following the theme ‘Give to Gain’. This focuses on reciprocity - not only through donations, but also through celebrating and empowering the confidence, achievements and opportunities of our students.
🏆 WEEKLY WINS 🏆
8CX: The form group bravely performed their Drama scripts, despite the nerves – well done guys!
8CY: Some amazing effort and ideas for the next page of their Proud magazine in form time on Wednesday.

It has been so lovely to welcome Year 9 back to school this week, looking smart and professional, and the sunny weather has been particularly welcomed by all. Thank you for your support in ensuring that your daughter has returned to school wearing her correct uniform with pride. Well done to Rosa M 9CY, Emila F 9CY, Lily M 9CX, Alyssia P 9CX, Leah N 9EX, Isla C 9EX, Pippa W 9EY, Naomi M‑P 9EY, Annabelle S 9MX, Drew M 9MX, Stephanie T 9MX, Issy C 9MY, Isla L 9MY, Alesha M 9PY, Olivia S 9PY, Moriah Q 9PX and Beth G 9PX for being invited to this week’s Thank You Friday, where they enjoyed a hot chocolate and biscuits for always wearing their school uniform with pride.
Year 9 have now received their marked mid‑year assessments and completed their feedback lessons. Ahead of Year 9 Parents’ Evening next week, this is an ideal time for students to reflect on what they are proud of, the goals they have for the remainder of the year, and any questions they may wish to ask their subject teachers about how to continue working towards their aspirations. We strongly encourage Year 9 students to attend Parents’ Evening with their parents/carers so they can hear first‑hand from their teachers what they are doing well, along with one or two productive pointers to help them continue making progress.
Looking ahead to next week, we are celebrating International Women's Day with the theme ‘Give to Gain’ — the idea that where we give, we also gain. Later this half term, we also have the much‑anticipated House Cheer competition. Students will soon begin planning, choreographing, practising and refining their routines. International Women’s Day provides the perfect focus for House Cheer, reminding students of the power of girls supporting girls, the importance of shared values, togetherness, and how small actions can create big change. Thank you for continuing to remind your daughters how they can demonstrate these teachings both in day‑to‑day life and throughout their House Cheer preparations.

Year 10 have had a wonderful start to the half term and have been working hard in their lessons so far. In form time this week, students have been reminded that Thursday 20 March is the deadline for work experience placements to be uploaded onto Unifrog. If your daughter has already secured a placement but has not yet uploaded it, please encourage her to do so as soon as possible so that we can begin confirming these. Support and guidance on how to upload placements can be found on the Year 10 Google Classroom.
It was also lovely to hear about the success of the Sociology trip to Portsmouth University this week. Year 10 students engaged brilliantly, and the feedback shared about the day has been exemplary.
Over the coming weeks we have several key events, including the Year 10 Wellbeing Day and our ‘An Evening in the Life of Year 10’ event for parents and carers. Communications for these have already been sent, so please do check your inbox for details and get in touch if you have any questions.

Year 11 have impressed us all with their resilience and determination during the first week of mocks. It was never going to be easy starting a new half term and going straight into a mock exam at 8.50am, but they did it!
During the mock period, our focus continues to be on working SMART and looking SMART to ensure the highest standards with both uniform and approach to the exams. Revision and intervention sessions have been paused for now, but will resume from Monday 9 March.

We have been pleased to welcome Year 12 back after the half‑term break. Students have now reflected on their recent reports and identified clear next steps and targets, which they will be working on both in lessons and during their independent study time. These will be important as they prepare for their next round of assessments after half term.
This half term is a busy one, and we would be grateful for your support with the following key events:
Year 12 will be attending the University of Surrey Career Fair. Students must arrive at the Sixth Form common room by 8:30am. They are required to download or print their QR code in advance; full instructions are available on the Year 12 Google Classroom page.
Students with a Lesson 5 that day are expected to attend as normal.
Following the assembly before half term, students should now be actively seeking to secure their work experience placement. Once a placement is confirmed, it must be logged on Unifrog (as they did in Year 10).
If students have questions, they can speak to Mrs Keaveney.
If a placement is not secured, students will be expected to attend school during that week.
Details were shared before half term regarding the trip to see Hadestown. We have secured 48 tickets; however, if these are not sold by next week, the trip will unfortunately have to be cancelled.
If your child is interested, please encourage them to sign up via ParentPay as soon as possible.
As part of our SRE programme, the school nurse will be delivering sessions during Wednesday Period 5 over the coming weeks. Attendance is compulsory, and specific dates will be confirmed next week.
We look forward to a productive half term ahead and appreciate your continued support.
It has been wonderful to welcome Year 13 back after what we hope was a restful and productive half term. Team PE have already begun work on their PE NEA, and on Monday, students in Year 12 and 13 Politics will attend the annual Politics Conference. There will also be an early finish for Rosebery Collaborates on Wednesday 4 March.
The Year 13 mock exams begin on Monday 9 March and run until Tuesday 17 March. During this period, students will be on study leave and may come in for their exams and leave once they have finished. We strongly encourage them to maintain a normal routine and make use of the Sixth Form study spaces for revision.
Two months before final exams is a crucial window for Year 13 students. At this stage, revision should focus on:
consolidating knowledge
practising under timed conditions
refining exam technique
Below is the structured revision approach we recommend to students and would encourage you to discuss with them at home.
Students should list all topics for each subject and label them:
✅ Confident
⚠️ Needs practice
❌ Weak / Avoiding
Students should prioritise weaker topics, using high‑impact methods:
Blurting
Flashcards
Teaching concepts out loud
Immediate practice questions
They should avoid passive techniques such as re‑reading notes or highlighting.
This stage builds exam technique:
2–3 timed past papers per subject per week
Strict self‑marking with mark schemes
Keeping an “Error Log” to identify patterns
At this point, practising the style of exam questions matters as much as the content.
Students should now move to:
full timed papers
targeted practice of weaker question types
memorising key quotes, case studies or definitions
tightening timing
Students often struggle when they:
delay starting past papers
only revise favourite topics
rely on passive study methods
don’t use mark schemes
avoid timed practice
They treat revision like training, not homework
They review mistakes weekly
They prioritise weak areas first
They simulate exam conditions early
They track progress objectively
With consistent, active revision, students can:
move up 1–2 grades
turn a C into an A
turn a B into an A*
We appreciate your continued support in helping Year 13 prepare for this important stage in their education.
Congratulations to Genevieve B 12ELR and Marta N 13OJM for being top epraise points this week.

Next week, Rosebery will mark International Women’s Day with the theme Give to Gain. We will be raising money via ParentPay for Endometriosis UK and The Epsom Pantry, supporting access to sanitary products in our local community. Students may also bring period product donations to the school gate on Thursday and Friday morning.
There will be lollipop sales at lunchtime celebrating local inspirational women, and students are invited to wear a purple accessory on Friday to show their support. To support Endometriosis Awareness Month, students are also invited to wear a yellow accessory on Thursday.
Next Thursday at lunchtime, students are invited to take part in our World Book Day Craft Fair in the Main Hall from 1.30pm. Those displaying work should arrive at 1.20pm and label their entry with their name and form. Students may create anything linked to reading or books, and prizes (including bonus house points) will be awarded. All students are welcome to visit the displays during lunchtime.
We are delighted to share that Aoife VDV 8PY enjoyed an outstanding weekend of sporting success, winning two squash competitions. On Saturday, Aoife was crowned as the overall winner at The Michael Hennings Junior-Graded Series, held at Epsom College. She followed this achievement on Sunday with another impressive victory at the England Squash Bronze 6l – Bucks Bronze 2026, in which she won the Girls’ U15's tournament.
On the last day of half-term, we were delighted to welcome the team from Platform 7teen into school for a dynamic and engaging Work Experience Workshop with our Year 10 students. We are incredibly grateful for their time, energy and expertise.
Across the hour-long session, students took part in a series of practical, confidence‑building activities designed to strengthen their interpersonal skills, teamwork, communication, and readiness for the world of work. Highlights included interactive problem-solving tasks and a brilliant use of forum theatre, which allowed students to practise real-life workplace scenarios.
This valuable workshop was generously funded through donations from the Co‑op Local Community Fund. Details on how you can support this charity can be found in the flyer HERE.
A huge thank you once again to the whole team at Platform 7teen for providing such an enriching experience for our students.

These works have been generously supported by a grant from Boots and ongoing tree donations from The Woodland Trust.
What to Bring
Gardening gloves (we will have spares)
Any bramble‑clearing tools — power tools or hand tools
Old, thick clothing to protect against thorns and brambles
We’ll keep everyone fuelled with tea, biscuits, and plenty of laughs throughout the day.

The Year 10 netball team delivered an outstanding performance this week, securing a dominant 31–3 victory over The Priory School.
From the first centre pass, the team showed determination and focus, quickly building a strong lead in the first half. The defensive partnership of Abi L 10EY and Millie D 10MY was exceptional throughout the match. Their tight marking, well-timed interceptions, and relentless pressure prevented The Priory from settling into their attacking rhythm, limiting them to just three goals across the entire game.
In the attack, the shooting circle was on fire. India R 10CY demonstrated fantastic accuracy and composure under pressure, consistently converting opportunities. Isla L 9MY, who stepped up brilliantly from the Year 9 team, was equally impressive. She slotted in seamlessly, showing confidence beyond her years and contributing superbly to the score line with some fantastic shooting.
Overall, it was a complete team performance, with excellent communication, smooth transitions through the court, and unwavering energy from start to finish. A well-deserved win — well done girls! The Attacking Player of the Match went to Bea T 10MY, with Emma B 10EY being voted Defensive Player of the Match.
