Well, that’s a wrap for the first half term of 2026 – a half term filled with great joy and ambition, and demonstrating in spades that this is indeed a remarkable school – so I should open by thanking your daughters for leaning in, taking part, standing up, leading, learning, trying, playing and much, much, more. I must also thank you, our Rosebery families, for your ongoing support, engagement and encouragement – which makes a real difference and helps bring the Rosebery vision to life.
This was evident at a wonderfully positive Year 7 Parents’ Evening last night; I know the first secondary school parents’ evening can be a little overwhelming, the scale, the number of people, the imperfect booking system – but the overarching feedback from staff was how brilliant a start this cohort has made to their Rosebery journey – well done girls.
Elsewhere this week, and featuring later in Rosebery News, House Football was keenly contested, the Year 9 Netball Team enjoyed another victory, and we’ve spotlit National Apprenticeship week, with a particular focus on future pathways for our Sixth Form students (as alternatives to University) and as part of preparing Year 10 students for Work Experience – who were in externally led workshops today. As the Head of Year sections attest, it’s been lovely to see the girls celebrating each other’s accomplishments at their celebration assemblies throughout the week.
The classes of 2026 now have their eyes on the prize with regard to their summer exams and a range of non-examined assessments (NEAs) are nearing their conclusion for both Year 11 and Year 13 students, with Geography fieldwork finishing for Year 11 and PE and Drama assessments completed for both cohorts. After half term, Year 11 students tackle their Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs - final practice or mock exams) so, good luck girls.
You’ll also find details of a range of extra-curricular options and events highlighted in Rosebery News, including Homework Club, and perhaps the half term break is a nice moment for your daughter to consider a new club, activity or hobby, on her return to school. You’ll also note that the Rewilding Team are seeking volunteers to support their ongoing grounds works – with a community day scheduled for Saturday 7 March, so do check this out and see if you might be able to lend a green finger, some muscle power, or some construction skills!
Finally, as the half term break is upon us, please use the opportunity to ensure that your daughter has full and correct uniform ready for her return on Monday 23 February, when we will be reinforcing our expectations for uniform, make‑up, jewellery and equipment.
These standards are in place to ensure that every student is ready to learn, presents themselves with pride, and contributes to a calm and focused school environment. Full details of the uniform policy can be found on our website here: https://www.roseberyschool.co.uk/83/uniform.
In particular, we would like to remind parents and carers of the following points:
Nail varnish and artificial nails are not permitted.
The only jewellery allowed is one small stud earring in each earlobe; rings, necklaces and bracelets should remain at home.
Students should arrive each day in full, correct uniform, including appropriate shoes, skirt/trousers, and outerwear in line with the published policy.
Make‑up should be minimal and natural in appearance, as outlined on the website.
From the Monday after half term, all students are expected to arrive in full, correct uniform. If a student is not able to meet the uniform expectations, we will support them to put things right. Where a uniform issue cannot be corrected immediately, a student may be asked to complete their learning away from peers until the concern is resolved, and families may be contacted so that the correct item can be provided.
Your support in ensuring your child arrives at school each day ready to meet these expectations is greatly appreciated. Clear and consistent standards benefit all students, helping to maintain a respectful learning environment.
In the meantime, have a lovely half term break.

The theme for this week has been Celebration, and as you can see from Year 7’s Weekly Wins, there is certainly much to celebrate! We have thoroughly enjoyed handing out many merit certificates and prizes this week, recognising all our students and how brilliantly they have been doing so far.
On this note, I hope that Parents’ Evening this week felt suitably celebratory. It was wonderful to see so many of you face to face to praise Year 7 for their fabulous work this year and to guide them in the next steps of their learning. I also hope you were able to admire some of the work on display, which drew real admiration from the Year 12s who helped us put it together. These students are remarkable, and we are so proud of them!
To help build on this excellent trajectory, we would appreciate your support in ensuring students are fully ready for the next half term. This includes using the break to make sure uniform is perfect (including school shoes), pencil cases are restocked, and any jewellery, nails or hair dye, are removed before term starts.
And finally, it was a fiercely fought week of House Football — but I will leave it to the girls to reveal how they got on just below…

The final week of half term has been filled with joy, celebration and fantastic house spirit! It was a pleasure to celebrate so many of our remarkable students at Celebration Assembly on Tuesday. We recognised over 80 students for excellent attendance, points achieved, and tutor nominees for the half term. A special shout-out goes to Yan T 8PY, Hannah C 8EX and Alice H 8PY for achieving the most points in the year group. Congratulations also to Sophie C 8MY, Joelle N 8CY and Riya R 8EX for maintaining 100% attendance throughout the year so far - an amazing achievement! 8CY achieved the highest number of points across all tutor groups and we will be deliberating over half term about what their prize will be…
House Football on Wednesday was a huge success! Congratulations to 8MY who took home the trophy! Despite the wet weather, it was impressive to see the cheer, support and enthusiasm the students had for one another. A special shoutout to Leila W 8EX for her fantastic goalkeeping, and to Chloe V 8PX for her fierce shooting skills throughout the tournament.
Building on this momentum, I have reminded Year 8 about what setting themselves up for success means to support their progress both academically and socially. Thank you for checking before half term that their pencil cases are restocked, that they are wearing the correct school shoes, and that any excessive makeup or hair dye is removed. Please save the date next half term for our Curriculum Refinement Evening on Thursday 26 March, where we will be discussing all things GCSE options.

What a pleasure it was to celebrate so many Year 9s in Celebration Assembly this week for their outstanding effort this half term. So many students received their 100-point Tutor Award and 200-point Head of Year Award. A shout-out to Sophia P 9EY for being the first Year 9 to receive her Deputy Headteacher award for 500 points – what an outstanding achievement, Sophia! A big well done also goes to Sofia O 9EX, who is on 479 points - and not far off receiving her Deputy Headteacher Award either. Keep up the good work, all.
We celebrated those who have been recognised as Star of the Week this half term, those with zero de‑merits, as well as those with 100% attendance and those with 98%+ attendance too. Be sure to check ePraise for your accolades and the points you can spend at the ePraise shop, under ‘Personal Integrity’ or ‘Civic Responsibility’.
Next half-term is a busy one for Year 9, with Spring Reports and Parents’ Evening, sports fixtures, Graduation Committee, Boundless Festival and, of course, the much‑anticipated House Cheer! With such a full calendar, it’s more important than ever for Year 9 to return to school after half‑term with a strong focus on standards. Getting the simple things right at home — uniform, equipment and punctuality — means that as much of their energy and attention as possible during the school day can be dedicated to lessons and all these exciting events.
With that in mind, please ensure that your daughter uses the half‑term break to:
Check her uniform - school shoes (not trainers), fake nails removed, natural hair colour, no jewellery, and false eyelashes removed.
Check her pencil case so that she is fully equipped for all lessons.
Complete homework little and often.
Rest, socialise and reset after a busy half‑term, returning to school energised, eager and ready for what’s ahead.

It was my great joy this week to be able to reward all of our wonderful Year 10 students who have been doing the right things day in, day out. In our Celebration Assembly this week, Mr Hewett and I spoke about the importance of this year and making sure that we continue to push ourselves to get the best outcomes, especially given that we are now at the halfway point of Year 10. In one year(!), this exceptional group of students will be preparing for their PPEs, and if the first half of the year is anything to go by, these should hopefully be a fruitful period for the year group. That makes it all the more joyous that we were able to celebrate the merits, attendance and achievements of this year group this week. A special shout out to Abihail P and Fern M 10MX, who achieved Mr Hewett and my awards respectively. Another congratulations to Quinn H 10PX and Roselle H 10CY for achieving their Head of School award with 300 points each - a truly phenomenal accomplishment. Well done to all of you who have been awarded this week.
We were also lucky to have Platform17 come in today to deliver their work‑experience‑ready workshops. The team performed for each form group to highlight the importance of communication, first impressions, conduct, and both verbal and non‑verbal cues in the workplace. It was lovely to see how engaged Year 10 were throughout the session, and I hope it was useful for everyone involved. Today’s workshop was funded through donations from the Co‑op Local Community Fund, and we are very grateful to Platform17 for their initiative. If you would like to support them further, you can nominate them as your chosen local cause via the Co‑op app.
Finally, with half term approaching, I hope Year 10 have a well‑deserved break before tackling the second half of the year. With the new half term, we will be having a clear reset on uniform and punctuality. Please ensure your daughter comes to school with the correct uniform and equipment, with any excess jewellery left at home, and arrives punctually each day ready to learn.
⭐ STARS OF THE WEEK ⭐
10CX: Nicole B - for her merits this half term.
10EX: Poppy A - for always arriving early to form time in the correct uniform and for being ready for the day ahead.
10MX: Abihail P - for her consistent politeness, her enthusiasm in getting involved with form time activities, and for maintaining a brilliant record with no demerits. Well done, Abihail!
10MY: Amalie M - for consistently showing up to form on time with a positive attitude, the correct uniform, all while engaging in every task.
10PX: Eleanor J - for always being so diligent and hard-working in all her lessons - well done!
10PY: Ruby D - for working really hard on her goals this week - well done!

And just like that, the half‑term break is here! Year 11 students are probably feeling very tired after their relentless efforts attending revision sessions, taking part in Geography fieldwork, completing NEA exams in Textiles and FPN, and (of course) yesterday’s Drama scripted exams, along with much more.
In our Celebration Assembly this morning, we congratulated students with 98% and 100% attendance, those with 0 demerits, and the 20 students with over 300 points on ePraise. These are all incredible achievements and a true reflection of the grit and determination we are seeing in school.
This half term, our focus has been on revision sessions across multiple departments, in addition to our English, Maths and Science revision sessions after school from Tuesday to Thursday. We are so proud of everyone’s commitment, and eight students were selected at random to receive a gift card in this morning’s assembly. Revision sessions will pause during the PPEs but will resume from Monday 9 March onwards.
PPEs start straight away on Monday 23 February, and students should now have their personalised exam timetable, clear pencil case and all necessary equipment ready. A reminder that there is an early finish at 1pm on Friday 27 February for Year 11 students only.
Finally, although Year 11 will be in and out of PPEs, our expectations around uniform remain high as we continue to focus on our Work SMART, Look SMART theme. Thank you for reminding your child at home about wearing the correct uniform and removing excess jewellery, false nails, etc. Not being able to wear a watch or jewellery in the PPEs will certainly help reinforce this!
We wish you all a lovely half‑term break and look forward to seeing you at Parents’ Evening on Thursday 19 March 2026.

Well done - you’ve reached the half‑term break. This is a moment to pause, breathe, and recognise the hard work you’ve put in since January. As well as resting and reconnecting with friends and family, please take some time to reflect on your report and think carefully about your next steps for the term ahead.

Interactive workshops, held in modern cinemas, where students take part in structured activities designed to strengthen exam technique and revise core topics.
If you are interested, please speak to Mrs Watson and visit ParentPay to secure your place.
Today we launched our next Sixth Form theatre trip - and it’s a spectacular one.
Our Year 12s are heading way down under the ground this summer… but only as far as the West End. We’re thrilled to announce a trip to see Hadestown at the Lyric Theatre, one of London’s most celebrated and innovative musicals.
Blending Greek mythology with folk‑jazz flair, Hadestown reimagines the stories of Orpheus, Eurydice, Hades and Persephone. With soaring music, bold storytelling and themes of courage, creativity and hope, it’s a production that has captivated audiences worldwide — and now it’s Year 12’s turn to experience it live.

As part of our Centenary Celebrations, we’re inviting all Rosebery families to join us for a special Rewilding Community Day on Saturday 7 March. Together, we’ll be transforming areas of the school grounds to create a beautiful nature walk that students will enjoy for years to come.
Whether you can spare an hour or the whole day, we’d love your support. No experience needed - just enthusiasm!
If you’d like to see the current draft plans for the grounds, please see HERE. The photos show our rewilding team moving topsoil into the new raised beds this week - go team!
The Orchard (Near Geography)
Help us establish a thriving orchard space, including:
Building a chicken coop
Installing the electric fencing
Creating the chicken run
The Allotment (Between the Canteen and Ebbisham)
Let’s get the growing area ready for spring:
Re‑felting the shed roof
Constructing the polytunnel - this is the one task where parent support is especially appreciated. If anyone has building experience, you may even get to lead the build! (It’s a big one: 10m x 4m.)
Moving and levelling soil
Bramble Clearing (Under the Great Oaks)
We’ll be clearing brambles to open up space for the new nature walk.
If we have a strong volunteer turnout, we may also begin planting — we are expecting 240 hedging plants and hope to start clearing and planting hedgerows around the school!
These works have been generously supported by a grant from Boots and ongoing tree donations from The Woodland Trust.
What to Bring
Gardening gloves (we will have spares)
Any bramble‑clearing tools — power tools or hand tools
Old, thick clothing to protect against thorns and brambles
We’ll keep everyone fuelled with tea, biscuits, and plenty of laughs throughout the day.
How to Get Involved
Please sign up using this form so we know whether you’re a student or an adult. Everyone who signs up will receive further detailed information.
Year 7 & 8 Homework Club continues to run after half-term every Wednesday from 3.15pm to 4.15pm in OK2/3. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to complete homework in a supportive environment.
Students have access to computers to check homework on ePraise, and complete online homework such as Sparx Maths, Sparx Science, Sentence Builders, and Educake. A big thumbs up from Scarlett V 8CY and Verity W 8EY for completing their Sparx Science homework, and well done to Ellie K 7MX, Lucy T 7EY, Nina M 7EY, and Lara H 7MY for coming along.

On Tuesday 24 February, our catering team at Taylor Shaw will be celebrating Lunar New Year with a special themed menu in the canteen. Students can enjoy a selection of delicious East and Southeast Asian–inspired dishes, along with festive desserts created especially for the occasion. It’s a wonderful opportunity for pupils to explore new flavours and join in the celebrations marking the Year of the Horse.
Taylor Shaw
As part of our ongoing partnership with our canteen provider, Taylor Shaw, we want to ensure that every student can enjoy their school meals smoothly and without worry. To help us do this, we kindly ask all parents and carers to make sure there is sufficient money on ParentPay for your daughter’s meals each day.
Please note that canteen debt is not permitted, and we’re introducing some updated procedures to support families and students while ensuring the system runs fairly for everyone.
Procedures in Place
To help us manage meal balances more consistently, the following measures are in effect:
One yellow slip per student per half term (yellow slips allow a temporary meal when funds are low).
Automatic emails will be sent to parents/carers whenever a yellow slip is issued.
Students with over £5 of debt will no longer be eligible for a yellow slip.
If needed, students can call home from the school office to request a top-up.
These steps are designed to be supportive while encouraging good habits and ensuring no student is left without options.
Thank you for working with us to keep things running smoothly. If you ever need help with ParentPay or have any questions about meal balances, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office - we’re always here to help.

This term, Year 12 sociologists had the opportunity to engage in a reading challenge as part of focusing on the super-curricular for the subject. All students were tasked with reading a piece of sociological reading before presenting their thoughts through a book review to better understand how sociologists carry out research. Miss Taylor and Mrs Spencer then judged the entries according to how informative their review was, as well as their visual presentation. Congratulations to Alys N 12RXL, Charlotte H 12ALT, Rachel D 12SGF, Sophia E 12NJC and Zoe C 12EGK for their fantastic reviews. Each student was awarded with a book voucher and the reviews will be placed in the library to inspire other students to read something sociological!

On a very wet and muddy Monday afternoon, our Year 9 A and B netball teams travelled to Manor House School — and despite the conditions (and our minibus deciding to stay almost permanently in a muddy field!), the girls delivered an outstanding performance.
Both teams started strongly, showing excellent movement, sharp passing and great communication across the court. Our shooters were clinical in the circle, converting chances consistently, while the defensive unit worked tirelessly to turn over possession and limit Manor House’s opportunities.
The teamwork on display was fantastic, with seamless transitions from defence through centre court into attack. By half‑time, we had established a clear lead, and the momentum continued into the final quarters.
The final score of 24–8 reflects a dominant and disciplined performance from both the A and B teams. A huge well done to all players for their resilience - not only in tough playing conditions but also for surviving the post‑match stress of the minibus in the mud! A special mention to Isla L 9MY for being voted the Opposition's Player of the Match - well done!
Miss Elms - PE Teacher
This week has seen the return of House Football, and what a sporting spectacle we have had the pleasure of witnessing! On Monday, the Year 7s started us off, and every single tutor group fielded a team. Considering that some of these groups have not been taught much football, they all showed excellent grit and determination when representing their House. One particular form group displayed an impressive level of skill and were the team to beat throughout the tournament!
On Tuesday, the Year 9s braved the rain to play, and once again all the girls got stuck in and didn’t let the downpour dampen their spirits. It was a much closer tournament, and we couldn’t call the winners until the final whistle blew! On Wednesday, the Year 8s arrived to finish our week of House Football – and these girls were not here to play nice! They are a very competitive year group, and this certainly showed on the pitch. The final matches were brilliant, with everyone showing great energy and enthusiasm throughout. The final match even went down to sudden‑death penalties after a draw at full time – very exciting for us spectators, though perhaps a little nerve‑wracking for the players!
All the results are posted below – congratulations to our winning Houses and tutor groups, and a huge well done to everyone who took part! I would also like to say a huge thank you to our Year 12 A Level PE students who organised, ran and officiated the matches across all three days. These events cannot happen without your time and input, and I am very grateful to have you!
