What a wonderful Friday. Very early this morning our Sixth Form Team set off for the Christmas Markets Trip, due to visit Bruge, Lille and Ypres, then two of our School Standards Board Members visited assembly, tutor time and lessons as the SSB continue to support the work of our Senior Leadership Team, The Robotics Club are representing Rosebery at the FIRST UK Surrey Robotics Scrimmage, our Under 13 Cricket Team are out competing at the Indoor Cricket Festival at Nonsuch, Friday Live was a blast, the Wellbeing Café was a delight and we even managed to squeeze in an A Level Sociology in Action visit today.
Earlier this week, the Year 7 Cinderella Panto Trip was great fun -oh no it wasn’t - but also the debut outing for our new Trips Mascots – Rose & Barry! Our loveable Trip Bears are the face of our new Trips Instagram account, where you can follow all their adventures and updates from all our school trips! (we’ve also got a Rosebery Flag for good measure).
They’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes moments, fun updates, and all things ‘Rose & Barry’ as they explore with us. So, after enjoying the Panto with Year 7, R&B have now made it to France on the Christmas Markets Trip.
Want to stay in the loop?
Follow us on Instagram @roseberyschooltrips for trip updates, sneak peeks, and plenty of bear-themed fun!
I suppose someone will have to look after them and take them out over Christmas, any volunteers?
Staying on the Christmas theme, you’ll have received your reminder to collect your PSA Christmas trees from the main school entrance this evening, it's Christmas Jumper Day at Rosebery next week, taking place on Thursday to align with our Christmas Carol Concert that evening.
I am also delighted to announce the Rosebery winner, chosen from the entries submitted to GLF’s Christmas Card competition, with Emily K (9PX)’s design now due to be used as the official Rosebery Christmas card of 2025! Special mention to all those who entered the competition, the standard of entries was incredibly high - a selection of designs are included below.
Elsewhere please do be assured that the balance of work and festive play was kept in very healthy equilibrium across all year groups, but special mention to Year 13 for completing their mock exams this week and to Year 11 students and families for their engagement and action planning at last night’s Year 11 Parents’ Evening.
Ambitious & Joyful. Remarkable & Proud. It is the Rosebery Way!

Wow, what a week we have had! We were delighted to take so many students to the Rose Theatre in Kingston to see their production of Cinderella this week, and to see how much the students enjoyed the show was a real highlight. The show was an update on the classic tale, where ‘Ella’ goes from feeling like a scullery maid for being asked to help with her new twin stepsisters, to understanding that family is all that matters around Christmas time, and that everyone is just trying their best. We loved seeing the students laugh, clap along, and even get special interactions from the cast at the end, and we hope they came home full of Christmas cheer.
Plans have also been underway for next week’s House Netball, and for the Christmas concert, where I believe a choir of some 120 students will be taking the stage! Having popped into rehearsals, we know how hard they have been working to perfect their performance, and that it will be a wonderful sight on the night.
It may be helpful to know that in PDC this half term, we have been helping students to learn how to protect themselves and others, both in the community and online. This is especially important now that many of them will be travelling in the dark, and because lots of them will be using social media to stay in touch.
When it comes to staying safe when out and about, we have given Y7 students our top tips, which you can see in the lesson slide below. When it comes to online safety, we spoke at length about age restrictions, and how most social media apps are not recommended for those under 13 years of age, for data protection reasons. The exception to this is WhatsApp, which is not recommended for those under the age of 16 – despite the fact it may be the app that we use the most to stay in touch. While we do not wish to demonise these apps, which students get a lot of enjoyment from, our conversations in lessons aim to make them aware that they may have permission to use technology designed for children older than they are, and so parental guidance in using it isn’t just necessary, it’s encouraged!

Despite the wet and gloomy weather this week, Year 8 have continued to shine, showing enthusiasm, excitement, and courageous confidence in all their lessons. It was a privilege to see this in action with 8MX in History, in which Lia R and Serena A shared mature and thought-provoking ideas about Plantation. Meanwhile, 8PX impressed me in Art with Mrs Dacey, carefully sketching detailed eye portraits and developing their shading techniques - a special shoutout to Edie K, truly an artist in the making!
On Tuesday, our new Senior Prefect Team inspired us with their vision for improving student experience, including their commitment to ensuring everyone has a joyful journey through school. They also launched their first Epsom Pantry drive ahead of the Christmas break to support families in need. It was wonderful to hear about the opportunities available for Year 8 to get involved as Junior Ambassadors - be brave, Year 8, and sign up! This is a fantastic chance to showcase your leadership skills.
Looking ahead, next week brings us House Netball, a brilliant opportunity to represent your house, earn points, and embrace your competitive spirit. We will also come together for our Celebration Assembly, where I look forward to recognising the dedication, hard work, and achievements of our wonderful Year 8 students.

It has been a privilege to drop into Year 9 lessons this week and see the hard work continue. From brave and mature presentations in Business Studies to creative festive baking in Food, Nutrition and Preparation, Year 9 are applying themselves with dedication and commitment – well done Year 9!
In assembly this week, we were introduced to our two new Head Girls and the rest of the Year 12 Senior Prefect Team, who shared their vision and goals for the school this academic year. It was inspiring to hear their plans and values, and how they would love Year 9 to get involved in the school community, including the chance to apply to be part of the Junior Leadership Team. Be bold, Year 9, and sign up!
We are preparing for a busy week ahead. On Wednesday, students who have signed up for House Netball will have another opportunity to work as a team in their forms and earn points for their house – good luck to all playing! Many students are also busy practising and rehearsing at lunchtimes and after school for the much-anticipated Christmas Concert on Thursday evening. We can’t wait for this exciting event and to hear some beautiful festive music!
Finally, a reminder to please check that your daughter has packed her blazer each morning. It needs to be worn under her coat on arrival and throughout all lessons.

We’re into the home stretch now of this half term, with just two weeks remaining, and while December normally brings enough excitement by itself, a highlight of mine this week was our assembly yesterday led by the new Senior Prefect Team. While it is always a pleasure to hear about the goals and vision of the new SPT, I was most excited about the opportunity this presents for Year 10. Our Year 12s spoke about the new positions that Year 10 can apply for to help with the leadership of the school: Junior Prefect, Junior Ambassador and Wellbeing Ambassador.
As I always say, Year 10 are an exceptional year group, with the potential to be incredible leaders, so I implore any Year 10 who is interested in developing these skills to make an application. Please do speak with your daughter at home about this and encourage her to take the brave next steps. It may seem far away, but in two years’ time the current Year 10 will be our new Head Girls and Prefect Team, and this could be the platform that propels them towards that!
Next week will undoubtedly be one of joy. We have our Christmas Concert on Thursday, with a record number of students performing, as well as our (early) Celebration Assembly. I am very eager to celebrate the accomplishments this year group have achieved over the past half term.
Finally, please could I ask that you ensure your daughter is fully prepared for her day at school, with correct uniform, equipment and homework. Whilst it is normal for a bit of lethargy to creep in as the days get shorter, we really want to ensure that standards remain as high as always.
Have a great weekend.

It was lovely to see so many of you at our Parents’ Evening yesterday. I know that some of you arrived feeling a little anxious after seeing the reports and exam result data this week, but it was heartening to see and hear how positive you felt when leaving, having discussed the steps your daughter needs to take to improve and the support she will be receiving.
Similarly, in my assembly message this morning, I reminded students that these are just mocks—a test of what they can remember so far—and that we still have time until the summer of 2026. That said, it can feel disheartening when students have worked hard on an assessment and the results don’t reflect this, or when peers are celebrating and we don’t feel like joining in.
My message was clear:
“Popcorn is prepared in the same pot, in the same heat, and the same oil, yet the kernels do not all pop at the same time. Do not compare yourself to others. Your turn to pop is coming.”
The Year 11 team is so proud of what our students have achieved. For some, this may have been a wake-up call about how much work is expected outside of the classroom, but together we can achieve—and dare I say it—have fun along the way!
During form time next week, we will support students in reflecting on their mock data and setting SMART goals. Please do discuss this at home so you can be part of the journey.
Finally, a reminder that our Year 11 Study Hub runs every Wednesday from 3.00pm to 4.00pm in OK1, providing a quiet space for students to work.
Have a lovely weekend.

The Sixth Form areas have been transformed into a festive Christmas wonderland! There are two ways you can get involved and spread the Christmas spirit:
1. Christmas Kindness Slips
Please complete a kindness slip for any Sixth Form student or member of staff. Once collected, these will be sorted and distributed. It only takes a moment to write, but it will mean a lot to the person who receives it.
2. Christmas Donations
We are collecting donations for Epsom Pantry – Your Local Pantry. Suggested items include:
Tinned soups, fruit, vegetables, beans and pulses
Pasta, rice and pasta sauces
Long-life milk, cereal, cooking oil
Tea, coffee, biscuits
Tinned meat or fish, long-life juice
Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste)
Period products
Donation boxes are located outside Mr Phillips’ office and the HOYs office upstairs.
Mock exams have now come to an end, and we are looking forward to having Year 13 back in the building! Teachers will be marking and returning papers with percentages only, along with clear action points. A report will be sent to parents shortly, providing an update on progress and summer forecasts. There is still time to make changes, and the Year 13 Parents’ Evening in January will outline next steps. If you have any concerns, please contact your daughter’s tutor or myself.
Advice from Mr Phillips – What Happens Next?
Hopefully, you can see lots of success in your mocks. Inevitably, many of you will want to do even better—whether in the public exams next term for vocational qualifications or in the second set of mocks and final exams in the summer. What happens next is up to you:
Complete the tasks set before Parents’ Evening next term.
Build a revision timetable starting now.
Try the ideas staff suggest—if what you’ve been doing hasn’t worked, it’s time to try something different.
Don’t waste time feeling sad; use your energy to make positive changes. The most powerful person in your life… is you.
Assessments will take place in lessons from Monday 6 January to Monday 13 January 2026. These will cover work completed so far. For vocational subjects, public exams may carry more weight. Some subjects may combine assessments for both teachers, while others may set separate tasks. Please speak with your subject teacher to clarify expectations.
ePraise Highlights:
Well done to Marta N 13OJM for achieving 206 points so far this term.

On Thursday 11 December, our school will be taking part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. This is a fundraising event where children wear a jumper or other festive outfit and donate money to help children in the UK and all around the world. We know times are tough, so please remember that whatever you can spare is fine - and if you can’t spare anything that’s fine too.
To make donating easier we’ve set up a ParentPay. The minimum donation is £1
Save the Children are encouraging people not to buy new jumpers for the day. You could upcycle an old jumper, get crafty or head to your local charity shop to buy a pre-loved festive knit. If you want to get creative and decorate a jumper, the Christmas Jumper Day website contains lots of fun craft ideas. This year, donating £2 could buy a packet of seeds for a family in Kenya to grow their own food, after drought has killed their crops, or a combined donation of £160 from our whole school could help train a psychological first aider to help children in Ukraine recover from their traumatic experience. We’d appreciate your support to make Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day a success. Together, we can make the world better with a sweater.
Thank you for your support.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind families that our Epsom Pantry donation drive is now underway. This is the first major initiative being led by our Senior Prefect Team, who are eager to support the important work the Pantry does for local families, including members of our own school community.
How you can support the drive:
Monetary donations can now be made via ParentPay. These contributions help the Pantry remain stocked throughout January and February, when demand is often at its highest.
Food donations can be handed in at the front gate during the week beginning Monday 15 December, where members of our Senior Prefect Team will be present each morning to collect items.
We would also like to share the video created by the Senior Prefect Team, which was shown in form times today, to help students understand more about the work the Epsom Pantry does and why our support is so important.
Suggested Food Donations:
Tinned soups
Tinned fruit and vegetables
Tinned beans and pulses
Pasta and rice
Pasta sauces
Long-life milk
Cereal
Cooking oil
Tea and coffee
Biscuits
Tinned meat or fish
Long-life juice
Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste)
Period products
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. Your contributions make a meaningful difference to the families who rely on the Epsom Pantry.

The costumes in SIX: The Teen Edition are giving major royal energy - so we had to ask… "If you could design a costume mash-up between a Tudor queen and a modern pop star, who would you combine - and what would the outfit look like?
When I received the prompt, I went back to my favourite person that I studied during my History A Level – Queen Elizabeth I. That A Level was a long time ago, so I had to do a little research to refresh my memory and also consider how the modern perception of Elizabeth I has changed over the years – much of this reinterpretation coming from female historians.
With this basis, I then thought about modern female artists who share qualities that could link back to Elizabeth I. Taylor Swift, who fought to regain the rights to her music in a male-dominated industry? Billie Eilish, who took control over the way her music was released and how her body was represented? Grace Jones, one of the most influential visual artists of the 1970s and ’80s, who remains iconic today?
Elizabeth I had a long journey before she succeeded to the throne at 25. The beginning of her reign was beset with questions regarding her marriage and choice of a husband, with fears of a loss of power similar to that suffered by her sister Mary. Throughout her reign, Elizabeth used her imagery to “control the narrative” and project an impression of power, purity and youthfulness. With that in mind, the female artist who has taken control of her imagery (and reinvented it so definitively across the decades), “competed” with men, and shares a love of excess, is Madonna. (Who also dressed up as Queen Elizabeth I for Halloween 2022.) Even Madonna’s name could be linked back to Elizabeth I, who was famously known as the Virgin Queen – Madonna being associated with the Virgin Mary.
Miss Shillito - Joint Head of Design Technology
Anne Boleyn’s iconic “B” necklace is one of the most recognisable symbols of Tudor fashion. It was bold, personal, and a little rebellious - much like Anne herself.
Fun twist: Her necklace has inspired countless replicas and even appears in modern fashion collections.
Costume designers help tell the story through clothing. They research time periods, characters, and themes to create outfits that reflect who each character is and when and where the story takes place. From royal gowns to rock concert looks (like in SIX), costume designers blend fashion, history, and creativity. If you love design, detail, and drama, this could be your perfect role.
Wardrobe assistants are the behind-the-scenes stars who help keep costumes looking their best. They organise outfits, assist with quick changes, and make sure everything fits and functions during the show. It’s a fast-paced, hands-on job that’s essential to keeping the performance running smoothly. If you’re practical, organised, and love working with clothes, this role might be for you!
We’re inviting local businesses, organisations, and families to sponsor our upcoming school production of SIX: Teen Edition by purchasing space in the official show programme.
This is a fantastic opportunity to support the arts at Rosebery while showcasing your business or sending a message of encouragement to the cast and crew!
Sponsorship Options:
Half-page advert – £30
Full-page advert – £60
All sponsors will be featured in the printed programme distributed during performance week.
If you're interested or would like more details, please email cbrew@roseberyschool.co.uk
Thank you for helping us make this production truly unforgettable!
Last Thursday, the U15 football team embarked on their first game of the Surrey cup. After receiving a bye in the first round, the team faced Carrington School on Thursday afternoon.
The game immediately started with Rosebery on the front foot. There were many shots straight away but, unfortunately, no luck at the beginning of the game. It wasn't long, though until Rihanna S 10MX broke the deadlock.
After this, it was more of the same and, though Rosebery had shot after shot, we only went into half-time at 2-0 up after a rocket of a goal from Francesca B 10MY.
The second half started rapidly, with another quick-fire goal from Rihanna. It didn't take long until a screamer from Brooke M 10PX and a second goal from Francesca all but wrapped up the game. All that was left to cap-off a dominant performance was a goal from Polly H 9EX followed by Rihanna sealing her hat trick, confirming that the team would go sailing into the third round. A phenomenal performance from the team and a very well-deserved win.
Roll on the next round!

The U13 Football Team have progressed to the fifth round of the English Schools Cup, placing them among the top 30 teams in the country - a fantastic achievement in itself!
They secured another commanding victory with an 8–1 win over Farnham Heath End School. Sophia C 8PY led the scoring with a first-half hat-trick before adding a fourth after the break, while Chloe V 8PX followed with a hat-trick of her own. Mia S 8PX (after a number of fantastic saves from the goal keeper) rounded off the score line with a well-taken finish.
Players’ Player was awarded to Mia S for her outstanding ball-control and her ability to deliver dangerous balls into the box from every corner.
The Coaches’ Player - selected by Miss Croft and Miss Dawson - went to Scarlett S 7MY for her exceptional determination throughout the match in her Rosebery debut.
Miss Croft - Head of PE
The Year 9 and 10 netball teams played St Andrews on Wednesday afternoon and managed to squeeze in their games before the dark set in!
The Year 10 team started slowly in the first quarter, giving away some easy balls which allowed St Andrews to take an early lead of 7–2. In the second quarter, switches were made with Erica F 10CX moving into defence and Abi L 10EY into attack — changes that made a real difference. By half-time, the score was 11–5. Rosebery continued to test St Andrews and actually outscored them in the second half, but the early lead proved decisive, and St Andrews won 16–11. Players' of the Match went to Erica and Bea T 10MY — well done!
The Year 9 game was close from the start, with Rosebery leading 7–6 at half-time. The third quarter remained tight, finishing 10–8, but in the final quarter Rosebery pulled away thanks to Phoebe B 9CY and Caitlin H 9CY finding excellent space up the court. The match ended 14–9 to Rosebery, with Phoebe receiving Player of the Match — a fantastic result!

On Tuesday afternoon, a group of students represented Rosebery in the District Cross Country at Nonsuch Park. Luckily, the sunshine was out, but the ground was very muddy after recent rain - so walking boots and wellies were essential for staff, and spikes for the students! After reviewing the route, the girls warmed up and prepared for the first race.
Year 7 were up first, running a short but fast 2.6km course alongside the boys, making it even more competitive. Eliza G 7MY set a fantastic pace from the start and maintained it all the way to the finish, securing 2nd place overall in the girls’ race! Lana R 7PY, Darcey C 7PY and Georgina B 7MY finished close together and did themselves proud in a very quick race. Final placings will be confirmed once official results separate the boys and girls.
Next was the U15 race, where our Year 9 girls delivered a brilliant team performance. Izzy C 9MY finished 9th in a field of over fifty runners - an incredible achievement! Mimi B 9MY followed closely in 10th, with Francesca A 9EY in 13th and Neve K 9CY running superbly to finish in the top 30, despite saying she “isn’t a runner”!
The final race was for U17s, with our Year 10 girls competing against runners up to two years older. This didn’t faze them, and they performed superbly as a team. Abihail P 10MX led the group in 5th place, Darci V-R 10MY was close behind in 6th, followed by Fiona W 10CY in 12th and Eloise S 10CX in 22nd.
It was a fantastic afternoon of racing, and we look forward to seeing the official results to find out how Rosebery placed as a school and who has qualified for County Cross Country. Well done to all involved!
Mrs Hart-McKee - PE Teacher
In an unexpected tournament, our Rosebery hockey players gained valuable extra match experience against two schools. After a tough opening round, both Team A and Team B secured well-earned wins in their second games against Nonsuch High School. With Kaitlyn D 8CX and Erin O 8MX stepping up brilliantly as goalies, the teams showed impressive adaptability and commitment.
Strong teamwork, clear communication, and determined effort were evident in every play. Although both teams later fell to a strong Sutton High side, they continued to compete with resilience and positivity. Overall, it was a productive evening of hockey and a great opportunity for the girls to grow, both in confidence and in skill.
Miss Dawson - PE Teacher
The Year 7 Netball team travelled to Blenheim High School for an after-school tournament featuring eight teams. The girls arrived excited and ready to face strong opposition. Although they did not win their first game, they quickly settled into their rhythm in the following fixtures, showing growing confidence, stronger ball movement and excellent teamwork.
They went on to win their second 8-minute game, showcasing brilliant intercepts, accurate shooting and some impressive passing sequences. As the afternoon progressed, the level of competition remained high, but the team continued to work hard and stayed positive throughout. With a mixture of results across the tournament, they finished mid-table overall — a commendable achievement in a strong field.
The girls demonstrated resilience, sportsmanship and clear improvement in their play, and they should be very proud of their efforts. Well done, Year 7!
Congratulations to Caoimhe-Jean P 7EX, who was awarded Player of the Tournament!
