Despite the rather miserable weather, spirits have been high at Rosebery this week with the Sixth Formers sneaking around the site, in some very odd places and at some very odd times, to film the RAG week trailer. Rehearsals for Teachers’ Top of the Pops are also in full swing and some ‘interesting’ plans are definitively afoot, for the wonderful week of Raising and Giving that starts on Monday 14 October.
I am also hugely grateful to our Heads of Year for bringing some much-needed sunshine and cheer to a very wet morning by launching our ‘Thank You Fridays’ today. These are designed to spotlight and praise those students who are just really good eggs, who do the right thing, each and every day – we don’t want those students to think we don’t see them. Well done girls.
Having received some wonderful feedback about Minecraft Club, Christian Club and Friday Live, I am delighted to confirm that all extra-curricular clubs and enrichment activities are now underway. I am hugely grateful to Mr Waight for coordinating this and, alongside Mrs Mariner, ensuring this can all be accessed via ePraise; where students can see what’s on, sign up, and receive merits for attending. Please do check that your daughter is able to access ePraise, either via the website or dedicated app. Indeed, many students already have enough merits on e-Praise to start using the ‘Rosebery Shop’ on the platform, with Rosebery ‘Click & Collect’ opening next Friday – with Miss Canessa front of house!
Students in all year groups have also started auditioning for roles in this year’s school production of Peter Pan, and it has been wonderful to see and hear so many girls put themselves forward for a variety of acting, singing and musical roles. I must also thank Ms Ravelo, for marking Languages Week with a school with Duolingo competition – students and staff have until Sunday evening to participate and earn points and prizes.
Have great weekend everyone.
HEAD OF SCHOOL
Following the allergen warning from the FSA regarding the potential peanut contamination in mustard products, Taylor Shaw, who run our canteen service, have asked us to share the following reminder with families. Although they do not currently use mustard in our canteen, for the avoidance of doubt and to minimise any risk, if your daughter has any concerns about mustard ingredients, or associated nut allergies, she should adhere to the following process:
1. Any student with an allergy should speak to the serving team if they have any questions regarding the meal they have chosen.
2. The serving team will reference against the allergen folder and advise the student accordingly.
3. Taylor Shaw will use the list of students with a declared peanut allergy (shared with them by the school) to specifically advise about mustard ingredients when they are approached by the student.
Please remember that pre-packaged items will have any of 14 key allergens listed in BOLD on the label, if it is present, so please also ask your daughter to check these labels carefully.

Year 7 are now attending enrichment activities in full force! At lunchtimes and after school, students are trying out new clubs and activities to find their 'remarkable and proud', with over 90 Year 7s getting creative at art club, more than 80 practicing their agility and speed in badminton club and over 70 students getting musical at the flute ensemble, Rosebery Singers and Friday Live, alongside so many others trying new enrichment clubs. Many of our Year 7 students have almost completed their extracurricular challenge card, and the Year 7 team are excited to see who will come to the office on Monday with their cards completed for a chance to win some fantastic prizes.
This week saw the first ‘Thank You Friday’, in which a random selection of students who are always doing the right thing were invited to have hot chocolate with the pastoral team. Congratulations to the ten Year 7s who received this week’s 'Thank You Friday' slip for always wearing their Rosebery uniform with pride!
A reminder that homework for Year 7s may start being set from next week on Bromcom. Don’t forget to attend Year 7 Homework Club on Tuesdays from 3.00pm to 4.00pm in OK2.
Finally, we look forward to the upcoming 'Peer Masterclass' next Friday, where Year 12 Champions will be sharing strategies to help our students settle into Year 7 at Rosebery during period 5.

We have been delighted this week to see our Year 8 students engage with all the school and form-based activities that have been available to them. This week started with the launch of their enrichment calendar and it has been remarkable to see that they have thrown themselves into the new clubs that are now available. We are looking forward to seeing the points that Year 8 can earn on their form challenge card by trying something new this fortnight!
It's been wonderful to witness an incredible increase in participation at our Homework Club on Tuesday. Many students are taking advantage of this valuable resource, turning it into a dynamic hub of activity where they can support each other and dive deeper into their studies. The camaraderie and dedication displayed in the club is truly commendable and we encourage all students to join in and make the most of this opportunity.
Our recent assembly and form time sessions for Languages Week were a huge success. Students engaged in a variety of activities that celebrated linguistic diversity and the importance of communication in our global society. As part of Languages Week, we launched an exciting Duolingo competition where students could earn house points by completing language lessons and tasks at home. The friendly competition has inspired many to explore new languages (such as Esperanto), and we have seen an impressive level of enthusiasm from our Year 8 students. It's fantastic to see them motivated and eager to learn through this interactive platform.
This week, our school prefects also introduced us to the school's litter-picking scheme. We would like to extend a warm congratulations to our dedicated 8CX form for their outstanding participation in the scheme this week. During lunchtime, they took part in a litter-picking initiative aimed at maintaining our school environment. Their commitment to helping the environment is truly inspiring, and the prefects have expressed their admiration for the efforts displayed by the students. Well done, 8CX — your contributions to our community are invaluable.
It was also a pleasure to hear news that our Year 8 football players made some stellar contributions to the English School Football Cup this week. Well done to Lucy V 8PX, Polly H 8EX, Lily S 8MY and Neve OS 8MY. We are very proud of your truly remarkable results!
Please continue to keep us informed of all the lovely achievements Year 8 students are making outside of the classroom. We look forward to celebrating these on our re-marka-wall.

This week marks a new start for Year 9. The old branding is out and we have finally chosen our new logo that will represent the group this year. It was in incredibly tough decision, but I am very happy to congratulate Roselle H 9CY for her wonderful design with such character! This logo will make it's debut next week.
In another celebratory note, I’d like to congratulate Mabel F-T 9CX, for taking part in the Great River Race this weekend. The Great River Race is one of the UK’s least known and most challenging sporting events. Participants race traditional rowing vessels over a 21-mile course along the Thames from London Docklands to Ham, near Richmond. The 1st Cuddington (Warspite) Sea Scouts had 4 teams entered out of 265, with Mabel rowing for the U14s. This is such an incredible achievement, and you’ve done so many people proud with your efforts!

This week, I continue to be proud of Year 10, as they developed new volleyball and dance skills during their PE lessons. Within Drama and Music, Year 10 set the bar high with their acting and singing auditions for our next school production of Peter Pan. The cast list for this will be announced soon.

It is the final Friday of September and Mr Styles spoke in assembly today about how well Year 11 have returned to school and settled back in. We know that many of them have a determined goal in mind, and are working hard to achieve it. For those who are undecided, the time is now and it is not too late to focus the mind and take the first step towards the bright future that we know all our students can achieve.
As you will know from our Information Evenings, we have the highest expectations of our students and they act as role models for achievement, uniform and behaviour. It was noticeable in assembly this morning how many students have chosen to come to school with more than one set of earrings and even some nose piercings. May we remind you of our uniform policy which states that students may wear one set of stud earrings in the ear lobe only. If students cannot remove any additional piercings, they must be covered with a discreet plaster for the day.
This week also marked the first of our ‘Thank you Thursdays’ and Mr Hewett and I had such a lovely morning catching up with ten specially selected students over a cup of hot chocolate. This week we chose to recognise students who have had a brilliant start to Year 11, and they are our Rosebery Remarkable students for this week: Lyra H 11EX; Abi S 11EX; Grace C 11CX; Poppy B 11CY; Isla M 11PY; Anna J 11PX; Annabel C 11EY; Charlotte B 11MY; Beth H 11MY and Angelie S 11MX. Congratulations, we are so proud of you!

Mrs Dacey - Art Teacher
On Saturday 21 September, a group of Year 9 and Year 11 Product Design students enjoyed a visit to the Material Matters Fair at The Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, in London as part of the London Design Festival. The fair brought together over 50 brands, designers, makers and manufacturers over five floors to celebrate the development of new materials and their ability to shape society.
We were also able view the shortlisted entries for The Wood Awards 2024. 18 buildings and 15 furniture projects were selected by the judging panel from more than two hundred entries.
"Throughout the fair, we saw numerous materials and projects ranging from yoga mats derived from broken car windshields to 3D-printed housing, as well as textiles created from stretching and manipulating slices of fungus. A personal highlight for me was talking with a recent architecture graduate about his idea to repurpose terracotta pipes to be used as legs in chairs and stands. As part of the design, joins were created using suction so the pipes didn't need to be permanently connected using glue or screws. This kept the terracotta pipes in their original form if they ever needed to be used again. Although some of the stands were not ready for the consumer market, it was exciting to see the possibilities of more sustainable and renewable design, especially with the hope that it will be integrated into our everyday lives one day."
Genevieve B 11CX
"When going on the design trip, I explored a variety of different takes on how to tackle many different problems, mainly to do with the environment. This experience not only inspired me, but also, by talking to lots of different exhibitors, I have found out what it takes to become a designer and the benefits of choosing that career. I feel as if I am more aware of the design world now, and am much more appreciative of the process that products we see everyday go through, usually without thinking about it!"

The U14 Team kicked off their English Schools Cup campaign in spectacular style, securing a resounding 15-1 victory. It was a performance brimming with energy, skill, and teamwork, with Francesca B 9MY and Fearne L 9EX leading the charge, both netting hat-tricks.
From the opening whistle, the team asserted their dominance, quickly taking control of the match. Francesca B was unstoppable, bagging three goals in quick succession, while Fearne L mirrored her team mate’s brilliance with another hat-trick of her own. Niamh P 9CY, Brooke M 9PX, Polly H 8EX, Scarlett S 8MY, and Fern M 9MX also added their names to the list of scorers, showcasing the team’s impressive attacking depth. Every player seemed determined to make their mark on the match and the relentless pressure they applied kept their opponents on the back foot throughout.
The defensive effort was equally as strong. Lucy V 8PY and Isabelle L 9PX were solid in goal, managing to keep a clean sheet for the majority of the game.
Francesca B’s dazzling hat-trick earned her the Players' Player of the Match, sharing the spotlight with Neve O 8MY. The girls will take on Bullers Wood School in Round 2 in a couple of weeks.
Miss Croft - Head of PE
