As Mr Lach explained last week, we are focused on encouraging our students to reflect on what makes them remarkable and to engage in as many things as possible to make them feel proud of themselves this year. In their assemblies this week, Mrs Mariner and Miss Canessa have introduced the way in which students’ hard work, community service, kindness and participation in clubs and societies will be recognised this year, not only through the awarding of merits, but in the translation of these into prizes and special events. Students have been introduced to the Epraise website/app on which they will be able to cash in their merits to secure stationary items, sweets and privileges, as well as sign up to the multiple enrichment activities on offer. We would like all students to log into the system this week.
Miss Canessa also launched the PDC Award which, at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, will recognise students’ participation in our school litter picks, will reward their participation in clubs and activities and will ensure students who go above and beyond in the care of others is celebrated. Epraise and the PDC Award are designed to reinforce a sense of belonging, and of the benefits and responsibilities that come with being part of a community. We know that the vast majority of our students contribute enormously to our school community and that they work hard in and out of the classroom. We also know that, sadly, some students have not felt acknowledged or recognised, and we are therefore determined that this new approach will rapidly address this. Students will also be able to see how their merits contribute to their Year or House scores, and the competitive spirit was already in evidence as Mrs Mariner revealed the current totals and indicated that there will be significant rewards for the top House and year group at the end of the year.
We are very grateful to all parents who have attended our Information Evenings, the last of which are next week, at which Epraise has also been introduced. Additionally, at the meetings for parents of students in Years 7-9, Mr Harvey has introduced our Girls on Board initiative designed to support girls to ‘navigate the choppy waters of friendships themselves’. This programme, underpinned by the book When Girls Fall Out, helps girls to understand the complexities and dynamics of girl friendships and seeks to empower girls to solve their own friendship problems – and recognises that they are often the only ones who can. Slides from these evenings will be placed on our website, for those who have not been able to join us.
Finally, there is no question that mobile phones have dramatically changed the dynamic of girls’ relationships and well-being. We continue to be grateful for your support in ensuring you do not contact your daughter during the school day on her mobile phone, which she should not be using at any time between the start and end of the school day. Should your daughter wish to contact you, she should go to the Hive where staff will reach out to you, and our Reception team are the point of contact for you should you need to give a message to your daughter. I commend The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, as a fascinating analysis of the decline of play-based childhood as a result of the ‘smartphone epidemic’ which offers much food for thought for parents and teachers.

Year 7 have had a superb week; they have been filling their lunch and afterschool times with extra-curricular clubs and getting involved in a range of activities that Rosebery has to offer to find their 'Remarkable and Proud'. Year 7 are eagerly completing their extra-curricular challenge cards for the chance to win prizes. A reminder that students can use epraise to view the extra-curricular timetable and sign up to clubs.
In form time this week, Year 7 attended a Bromcom clinic to get them logged in and familiar with the website, where students can view their merits, de-merits and class timetables. Bromcom clinics will be continuing next week in form time for any individuals who were not able to get logged in this week.
Year 7 are also anticipating the arrival of homework from core subjects as well as Design Technology, which commences from Monday 30 September. In preparation for this, Year 7 students are becoming familiar with Google Classroom and their school emails in PDC and Computer Science lessons. For any students in Year 7 who are still struggling to access their emails or Google Classroom, please attend the Year 7 Homework Club on Tuesday afterschool from 3.00pm to 4.00pm in OK2 for support with logging on and using these websites.
We are excited to launch our Peer Masterclass on Friday 4 October, where Year 7 will be off-timetable for period 5 to be part of four taster-sessions led by our Year 12 Champions on topics to help them settle into Rosebery life.
Next week we are celebrating Modern Foreign Languages week, in which students will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities to embrace and explore the learning of a new language.

What an incredible week it has been, filled with the vibrant spirit of being 'remarkable'! We kicked things off with a fantastic assembly led by the inspiring Mrs. Mariner and Miss Canessa, unveiling our brand-new rewards app and website 'epraise'. This exciting platform is going to celebrate our students’ hard work and dedication like never before, giving them tangible rewards for all their amazing efforts!
We also spoke a lot about being 'remarkable' during our presentation on Information Evening on Tuesday. What a joy it was to share our Year 8 journey and to dive into the ways we will champion 'integrity and advocacy' throughout the year! Next week we will begin our journey by launching our very first form challenge, and we can hardly wait to witness the remarkable achievements our students will accomplish! For those who couldn’t join us, don’t worry—slides from this presentation will be available on the Rosebery website this coming week.
As we shared on Tuesday, we absolutely love hearing the incredible stories of our students’ successes both inside and outside of school, and we can’t wait to showcase these on our ‘remarka-wall’! In the spirit of celebrating success, we would like to congratulate Naomi F 8CX for her outstanding performance at the Surrey Relay Gala last weekend. Well done Naomi! Next week, our tutors will launch our enrichment calendar and explain the activities which are available both at lunchtime and afterschool. This is an amazing opportunity for our students to earn merits, learn new skills and help contribute to the forementioned form challenge. We are looking forward to seeing Year 8 getting involved in new clubs and develop their skill sets!
Have a lovely and restful weekend.

It was lovely to see so many of our families engaging with everything we have planned for the year ahead. This is such a remarkable group of students, and I am very pleased that I can speak to you all about the array of talents and qualities of this group.
A special congratulations this week goes to Katie B 9EY for her victory in the Fulwell Junior Open Golf Competition last weekend. Not only was this Katie’s first victory (which would be thrilling enough, but she also competed in an open-age category against nineteen people as old as 19, a fantastic achievement for sure!
A reminder that any GCSE subject changes must be requested by 30 September and, if you would like to make any changes, please ensure your daughter discusses this with the year team before sending an email to myself with your consent.

I continue to be proud of Year 10, who have made a remarkable start to the new term. As I’ve walked into lessons this week I have noticed a mature approach to classwork, with students questioning equations in Maths and upskilling their work, as well as using the mini whiteboards for messy thinking, allowing their confidence to grow.
With this in mind, please ensure your child has the correct equipment for their subjects. Lever arch folders and dividers are widely required in subjects for GCSE and we will be working with Year 10 to ensure they are organised in having this equipment, as well as remembering to bring it to each lesson and not leave it at home or in lockers.
I look forward to welcoming you onto the school site next Tuesday for our Year 10 Information Evening. During this time, the PSA will be on site with refreshments for sale as well as revision guides that are suitable for your child's core and optional subjects.
Finally, this week we saw the launch of 'epraise’, a website and app that students should be using to log in and sign up to our enrichment activities. Epraise also shows the running house points total, and allows students to view their merits and purchase a reward from our shop. For every activity students sign up to and attend they will receive merits.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend with your families and see you next week.

We would like to send a huge congratulations to the Year 11 GCSE PE students, who this week completed their mock practical assessments in a range of different sports. The students were extremely mature in their attitude and reflections. We also say thank you to Team PE, including one of our Year 11 tutors, Mrs Hart-McKee, for facilitating the sessions and moderating the assessments.
Practical subjects such as Textiles and Drama have begun preparing in earnest for their non-examined assessments (NEAs) and they have been working hard to give students as many opportunities as possible to get their desired grade. A number of teachers have contacted home with information about what may be required for your daughter, including details of any intervention, ‘booster’ or ‘drop in’ sessions that are running, so please ensure you are up to date with how you can support.
Our Rosebery Remarkable students continue the sporty theme, with Freya B 11EY taking part in the Surrey relay swimming gala last weekend. We would also like to recognise Autumn P-I 11MY, who was so eloquent and mature in her reflections on the PE mock performance, recognising what she had done well, and the fact that she has opportunities to improve further. Finally, as the enrichment programme is finalised and published this week, we would like to recognise Jocelyn B 11MY for being given the unique privilege of leading a music club – in this case, flute ensemble. Well done girls!

I am delighted to announce that all our enrichment activities were launched this week in our year group assemblies, along with the launch of the 'epraise' app. On the app, your child can navigate their way through merits, demerits and also sign up for the enrichment activities that run either weekly, fortnightly or as a one-off event. Students will be awarded a merit each time they attend an activity and, in turn, this can be used in our rewards shop.
You can access the enrichment timetables by clicking HERE.

Did you know you can set up alerts on ParentPay for when your child’s lunch money balance gets low?
You can either set up an email alert (this service is free) or a text alert (you will need to load on a small amount of money for this service as there is a charge for each text).
To set up alerts, log onto ParentPay, go into the Communication tab at the top of the page and click on Alert Settings.
Under Balance Alerts/Rosebery School Meals/ choose the threshold at which point you want to be alerted that the balance is low, for example £5.00, then click on either text or email alert, or both.
If you choose text alert you will need to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on ‘add credit to your text message balance here’ and then ‘add credit now’.
On the Alert Settings page you will also be able to click on other alerts you might want to receive (e.g. theatre trips) which can sell out quickly.
Please ensure that there is always credit on your ParentPay account to cover any food that your child wishes to purchase.
If you have any queries or need help, please contact the Central Admin team.
There is still time to join the 50/50 Club for 2024-25. You can secure your number(s) for £24 each and be in with the chance of winning great cash prizes throughout the year. Head over to ParentPay now, as sales close on Thursday 19 September. Further details about the 50/50 Club can be found by clicking HERE.
Make sure to save the date of Friday 18 October for our PSA Quiz Night at school. Details will follow soon!
We need a couple more volunteers for Tuesday 24 September from 4.30pm to 5.30pm to sell drinks and snacks. Please sign up by clicking HERE if you can help.
