Our Senior Prefect Team has been leading assemblies this week to preface RAG week, which begins on 14 October. It promises to be an excellent week of fundraising for a range of charities close to our students’ hearts, including Oxfam, Children in Need and Breast Cancer Now, for which we would love the students to dress in pink on the Friday of that week. I know how ambitious the Senior Prefect Team are to beat last year’s amazing total of £5000 and we are grateful for your support in helping them to achieve that. Please take a look at the RAG Week video which you can view below.
RAG week is just one example of how central to the running of the school our Sixth Formers are. This week, over 40 Year 11 students met with our Year 12 science students during tutor time for GSCE intervention and support, which is an extension of the homework support sessions that take place after school every week where students in Years 7-11 receive 1:1 support from a Sixth Former with a particular subject. Our Senior Prefect Team has organised our lunchtime litter picks, which has not only helped to mitigate the problem of the rubbish but has also had a marked impact on the amount of rubbish left around the site in the first place. Sixth Formers are also leading our wellbeing café for the lower school and were fantastic tour guides alongside our fabulous Year 9 students at Open Morning today. It has been a delight to meet with many Year 13 students about their plans for university and beyond; we are incredibly privileged to work with such an ambitious, focused and compassionate group, who are superb role models for our pillar school students.
A reminder that there is an opportunity for you to accompany your daughter in Year 10 or Year 11 to our Sixth Form Open Evening on Wednesday 16 October from 5.00pm to 7.00pm, at which you will be able to learn more about our Sixth Form and to speak to many students and staff.
We are very proud of the number of trips now on offer to our students and next week sees these begin in earnest with visits to the National Portrait Gallery, to two West End musicals, numerous school and district PE fixtures and our Year 7 PGL residential. I am very grateful to so many colleagues for giving up multiple evenings and weekends to make these trips and experiences possible. Your support in ensuring your daughter is collected at the arranged time, is much appreciated.
Have a lovely weekend

This week introduced us to Year 7's first ever RAG week at Rosebery, with a fantastic assembly led by the Senior Prefect Team introducing this year’s theme of ‘Rosebery in Concert’. Students are excited to get stuck in with all the activities, which begin the week commencing Monday 14 October, all planned to raise money for charity, with a particular highlight being the Teachers' Top of the Pops on Friday lunchtime.
Year 7 have had a very busy Friday today. At lunchtime, our Hive Team ran a Year 7 Wellbeing Cafe in the hall, followed by peer masterclasses led by our Year 12 Champions. As well as this, many students took part in the Year 7 Netball Tournament.
With only one week to go until our PGL trip, we are stressing the importance of being kind to one another and having courage to try new things; we cannot wait for the trip! For those students who are in school on Friday 11 October, a fun day has been planned with the theme ‘Have Courage, Be Kind’. We hope you are as excited as we are for a fun day of bonding together here at school.

This week has proven to be another week full of endeavour and resilience for our Year 8s. It was a joy to visit students performing group projects in Drama and to see some very impressive watercolour pieces in Art. Our students spoke very excitedly about their upcoming Geography biomes paired project, and we can't wait to see these finished products.
In form time, we continued our literacy-based sessions inspired by the book, 'Drama, Rumours and Secrets'. This week, we have been focusing on the importance of being an ‘upstander’ rather than a ‘bystander’. These sessions aim to empower students to take positive action when they witness bullying or unfair treatment. It’s inspiring to see our students engaging with this important topic and learning how to make a difference in their community.
This week’s assembly featured the RAG week video, which was a hit among the students! The video served as a fun and engaging way to promote our upcoming week of charitable fundraising, and we look forward to seeing our year group participate in the multiple activities planned. The theme this year is ‘Rosebery in Concert’, and there will be lots of events around the school at breaktime and lunchtime for our students to get involved with, including Teachers' Top of the Pops and a Teacher Quiz. RAG week commences on Monday 14 October. We look forward to seeing Year 8 getting involved.
We have decided to extend the form challenge by another week, as the competition is really close! We are thrilled to announce that Yube C 8CX was the first to complete the enrichment intervention - great work Yube!

This week, Year 9 have been exemplary in representing the school, and I have been so proud of how 9CX, 9EY and 9EX guided prospective parents/carers and students around at today's Open Morning. I am full of pride hearing how fondly they have spoken about their school experience so far, and receiving parental feedback who witnessed just how remarkable Year 9 (and all of our students) truly are.
In assembly this week, Year 9 had their first preview of RAG week which, as ever, is sure to bring lots of excitement. This begins on Monday 14 October, and I am certain Year 9 will throw themselves into all the excitement on offer.
Finally this week, our Year 9 form groups have started to think about an individual form project that they will be working on each week going forward, with the idea that these benefit the community in a way that doesn’t involve just donating money. These will be developed and executed purely by each form, so please do look out for updates and ask your daughter about what she and her form are interested in doing!

This week appears to have flown by for some, whilst for others it has felt very slow. We are so proud of our Year 10 netballers for their away match yesterday and would like to wish our football team all the best for Monday’s fixture.
In lessons, we continue to be impressed with Year 10’s positive engagement and reflection on what they have remembered from previous lessons, as well as throughout the year. As the expectation ‘steps up’ for Year 10, it is so important that students take pride in their note-writing and continue their reading independently at home.
I am collating a list of useful revision guides and exam board information for each subject taught at Rosebery in order to support students and parents/carers at home. When this is finalised, I will share this information with you and it will also be published on the school website.
Thank you for ensuring homework is completed at home and that your child's school bag contains everything they need for lessons. This will allow for a positive starting point each day.

Mr Waight - Head of Year 10
Miss Fielding - Deputy Head of Year 10
Despite the very gloomy weather, Year 11 have been relentlessly determined in their focus, hard work and conduct around school this week. The best way to exemplify this is to share with you what happened in the Sixth Form study area on Tuesday. Mr Lach stopped by the Year 11 office and said we had to see what was going on. As we climbed the stairs, there was a definite hubbub of positive chatter (and even some laughter) from the Year 11s and their Sixth Form buddies who were collaborating on some Science intervention work. While Mr Hiller explained that the purpose of the first session was largely introductory, it was clear that many were getting on with problem-solving and experiencing moments of genuine joy when they got a question right. We are so grateful to Mr Hiller, the Year 12 students and all the Year 11s who attended, for making this a ray of sunshine on a very rainy morning. Keep up the great work!
This week we also launched our appeal for ‘Proud Work’. While we love visiting Year 11 lessons, we don’t get to see everyone and we do not want to miss out on all the great things that students are doing around school! To this end, we have created QR codes where students can upload a photo of the work they are most proud of. Whether it’s a finished GCSE Art piece, or a 10/10 score on a vocabulary quiz, we want to hear about it, and we encourage your child to get involved. You can view this QR code below this Year 11 entry.
Two of our whole-school 'watch words' for this year are ‘Remarkable’ and ‘Proud’ and so, we are so pleased to celebrate our Year 11 students who do remarkable things, both in and outside school. Our Rosebery Remarkable students this week are Scarlett M 11CX, who played at Party in the Park with her band; and Bella G and Beth H 11MY, who have both achieved their IGA Instructor qualifications, at Level 2 for Bella and Level 1 for Beth. We are so proud of you!

Last week we celebrated Languages Week, with students enthusiastically taking part in a Duolingo competition, learning new languages to earn points for their houses! Malala had been mastering Greek, Elizabeth were learning Swahili, Pankhurst were tackling Esperanto, and Curie were diving into Japanese.
Students from all year groups have been using Chromebooks during lunchtime to practice (and even staff have joined in the fun!). The competition continued until Sunday, with those who topped the leaderboards by the end of Sunday winning exciting prizes. Keep up the great work!

Following an amazing 70 students in the audience the week before, we welcomed an all-time record audience of 114 girls to G12 to come and listen (as well as Miss Shillito and Mrs Carnegie). Well done to the performers who were expecting the audience to be a lot smaller, but still performed really well.

The U14 Netball B Team travelled to St Teresa's on Monday for the annual District Tournament and, while the girls appeared quite anxious about the level of the opposition, they had a fantastic start! Manor House were our first opposition, and the girls took some time to get their heads in the game. However, once they did, the attacking play was creative and accurate which allowed our shooters the opportunity to take the lead. Defence had to put a shift in as Manor House had a superb Goal Attack who was quite the danger on court.
The game was closely contested, but Rosebery took the lead and held it to the final whistle, finishing with a 5-4 win. Our next game against Sutton was a bit more relaxed, and allowed us to move the ball down the court at our own pace. Grace D took some great overhead feeds to shoot and score. It was another win for Rosebery, with the final score being 6-1. Unfortunately, the next few games were tough, as the opposition were well-drilled and their skill level was difficult to defend. Rosebery couldn't quite grasp the flow of the game and this lead to three narrow defeats against SWPS, St Teresas and Tormead.
However, the girls came back stronger and used this experience to play their best netball against a very competent Howard team. The match was close in both halves, but Rosebery pulled away at the end and won 4-3. Our final match was against Notre Dame and, by this point, the girls were tired and cold and, whilst our match play wasn't quite at the same level as it had been earlier in the tournament, the girls still put in a determined performance and outplayed Notre Dame in both defence and attack with a final win of 6-1.
The girls finished 4th out of 8 teams which, in their own words, was "the best they've ever done in this tournament" and I truly hope that next year they will do even better. Well done for a brilliant afternoon of netball with lots of successes and lots of ideas to work on in training!
Mrs Hart-McKee - PE Teacher
After the success of our Rosebery Squash team last year, I have entered the National Schools Squash Tournament for this year and am now looking for a new set of squash players! If you are in Years 7 to 9 and play, or have played, squash, then please come and see me in the PE Department on Monday 7 October at break time for a very quick meeting.
Mrs Hart McKee - PE Teacher
On Tuesday afternoon, Year 7 and 8 travelled to Therfield for the first Netball League matches of the year. It was also the first time the Year 7 netball team had played a competitive game together, so it was a very exciting fixture for everyone. We arrived in torrential rain, so were very glad to hear that the match had been moved indoors. We had a very quick warm up before the Year 7 team went first.
We had a lot of attacking players, with some of the team were playing out of position. However, you would never have known this from watching them in the first quarter. Rosebery took an early lead and finished the quarter 6-0 up! We kept the team the same for the second quarter to let the girls settle into their new positions and they did exactly that. Attacking play was fast yet precise, and Ellie M 7PY was having a superb time in the D and couldn't stop scoring. At half time, Rosebery were 12-1 in the lead.
In the second half, we switched positions around to allow everyone to have a go in their preferred positions. There was some lovely mid-court play from Kaitlyn D 7CX and Molly M 7CX, who worked both well in attack and defence. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 16-3. Into the fourth quarter, we slowed down a little and ended the game with a very convincing 17-5 win. Well done girls for a fantastic first game and first win, with a particular congratulations to Molly M, who received Player of the Match.
The Year 8 team followed but didn't quite start with the same momentum as the Year 7 team. It was a relatively slow start for both sides and, by the end of the first quarter, Rosebery were 1-0 up. After a quick quarter time talk, the girls soon settled and got into their stride, with Phoebe B 8CY and Amelia O 8EX providing some excellent shooting, resulting in Rosebery being 4-0 up going into half time. In the third quarter, Caitlin H 8CY controlled the game from the centre court and allowed the shooters more opportunities, taking us to a 9-0 lead. In the fourth quarter, Rosebery finished with a consistent and steady performance, while our defence kept their shooters from getting the ball into the D, resulting in us finishing with a 12-0 win!
This was a fantastic start for Rosebery, and in particular for Phoebe B, who was awarded Player of the Match.
Mrs Hart-McKee - PE Teacher
The U14 District Netball Tournament proved to be a challenging day for our A Team as they faced stiff competition and ultimately finished with 2 wins and 4 losses. In their opening match, the team showed promise against a strong opponent, battling hard but ultimately losing 16-9. Despite a strong performance from our goal shooter, India R 9CY, the team struggled to convert opportunities.
The second match brought a tighter contest with improved teamwork leading to a thrilling win of 6-4. This gave the team a boost of confidence, showcasing their potential to work cohesively. However, as the tournament progressed, fatigue began to show. The team faced a particularly tough rival in the third game, resulting in a 8-7 loss. Despite the setback, the players displayed resilience and determination.
In their fourth match, a spirited effort resulted in another close game but they managed to win yet again with a score of 7-4. The players’ defensive skills shone through, particularly from Fearne L 9EX and Francesca B 9MY. In their fifth game, they lost 11-4 but ended with a narrow victory in their final match, winning 10-0, marking a bittersweet conclusion to the day.
Overall, while the results were not what the team had hoped for, the experience gained and the spirit shown on the court will surely serve them well in future tournaments. With continued practice and teamwork, they can build on this foundation for upcoming challenges. Well done girls.
