It’s been a wonderful week of sunshine and smiles at Rosebery this week, as the community has very much enjoyed some beautiful early summer weather. Although, I suspect our students and staff on the practice Gold Duke of Edinburgh Expedition may have thought it’s been rather too hot!
Keeping the theme of too hot, I must also give special mention to our Head of PE, Miss Croft. Miss Croft completed the London Marathon last weekend in very warm weather in the commendable time of 4 hours and 49 minutes – a huge congratulations to Miss Croft, who raised over £2,000 for Children with Cancer UK.
Today marked the final day of timetabled lessons for our Year 11 Class of 2025, who have Intervention Days planned next week before their GCSEs begin in earnest. They have navigated MFL speaking exams this week as well as their Art exam yesterday and today and, throughout a turbulent and disrupted few months within the Rosebery community, have consistently impressed us all with their positivity, hard work and determination to succeed – keep up the good work girls, and good luck!
Year 13 have a week of lessons to go before they too embark on exam leave. Please don’t forget that next week starts with the May Bank Holiday on Monday, so school does not re-open until Tuesday 6 May.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

With it being our first full week back at Rosebery, it has been lovely to see our Year 7 students fill the corridors with laughter, enthusiasm and joy. They have met the Summer Term with positivity and readiness for the excitement that is yet to come.
This week, we launched our 'Stemettes' programme during form time. Through engaging resources, inspirational stories and thought-provoking discussions, this programme aims to raise awareness of gender-imbalances in STEM fields and to encourage all students to see these subjects as exciting, accessible and full of future opportunities. Alongside this, Year 7 also discussed in PDC the important topic of diversity and inclusion, of which 7EY deserve a special shoutout for their mature discussions, as well as for challenging themselves in creating their own society which was inclusive of all – keep up the hard work!
As the weather becomes warmer in the summer term, please ensure your daughter has a refillable water bottle with them so they are keeping hydrated. I would be grateful if you could also encourage your daughter to wear their uniform with pride ensuring they have one set of small stud earrings, wearing their skirt on the knee and not wearing eyelashes.
Looking ahead, next week we are celebrating Rosebery Day, which marks our 100th Anniversary! Celebrations include a whole school picnic out on the quad at lunchtime (let’s keep our fingers crossed for the sunshine!) so please feel free to send in a picnic blanket and picnic food to encourage participation in this remarkable milestone.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to all Year 8 families for your support throughout the Curriculum Refinement process. We appreciate the time and thought you have given to help your daughters make informed decisions about their next steps. We understand that these can be challenging choices and we are grateful for your commitment in meeting deadlines and engaging in the process so positively.
This week, we were delighted to welcome our Year 12 coaches into Wednesday's form time sessions. They worked closely with our Year 8 students on the topic of communication within friendships, focusing on how open and honest conversations can help reduce conflict and build stronger relationships. Navigating these discussions isn’t always easy (especially as a teenage girl!) so we’re incredibly grateful to our coaches for delivering thoughtful and engaging activities that helped students explore how to express their feelings in a healthy and constructive way. Both students and coaches gave fantastic feedback about the sessions, and we are so pleased to see our Year 8s reflecting positively on what they learned.

Our first full week back (and the shorter week last week) have brought about the Curriculum Refinement meetings for Year 9. I have been very lucky to have conducted many of these myself and to see Year 9 so eloquently articulate not only their choices for next year and why they wish to continue certain subjects, but also hear their maturity and reflections on the year that they have had so far. I have had many of the Senior Leadership Team highlight to me that their meetings have been a highlight of their days, and they have been so impressed with the way in which Year 9 have conducted themselves. It truly is a delight to hear so many wonderful things about this year group.
Our meetings will finish on 7 May, with our final deadline for these options being on 9 May.
Next week, we look forward to Rosebery Day on Wednesday, as well as the culmination of our Curriculum Refinement process. I am also very excited to go and see the Year 9 Music classes in action in their respective concerts on Wednesday and Thursday, and I am eager to see the culmination of all of the hard work of these talented performers!

The sunshine has certainly cheered everyone up whilst we've been faced with many challenges since our return to this new term after the Easter break. As always, it has been a joy walking into lessons and seeing students working hard, asking challenging questions and writing everything down (as it might be needed for upcoming revision at home!). There is a strange feeling in the air as Year 11 lessons will soon come to an end and Year 10 realise they have become the top of the school. I am forever proud of them, their smart uniform, kindness, care and their compassion they show each other and, certainly, they are role models to the lower school.
Our assembly this was week was on the subject of Rosebery Day, which is next week, where the students learnt a bit more about the history behind Lord Rosebery and what is now Rosebery School. A huge well done to the Year 10 students who were part of the Junior Leadership Team and who delivered the assemblies.
We have focussed on the importance of updating Unifrog with our work experience placements. There is a guide on Google Classroom if students cannot remember how to do this.
Finally, we look forward to our 'Year 10: Ready for Mock Exams’ Immersion Day on Thursday 8 May, which will be a fantastic opportunity for students to understand which topics to specifically focus upon for English, Maths and Science and how to revise most meaningfully across all subject areas. Students will receive a bespoke timetable on the day and will benefit from a range of different sessions designed to help them feel more confident when preparing for their first formal mock exam season. A more detailed letter has been sent out to Year 10 families today.
🏅 BRAVE AWARD 🏅
Year 10 as a whole have shown much resilience over the last week or so both in and outside of lessons. They have made me so proud and kept each other smiling. Thank you for being you, Year 10, and never change!
Mr Waight
Head of Year 10
Today marks the final day of formal timetabled lessons for Year 11 – what a milestone! It seems just yesterday that these students were getting their first taste of Rosebery life in the classroom (both virtual and in person, such was the era of COVID) and now here they are.
In assembly today, we celebrated all the hard work that has gone into this year, notably with the Headteacher’s Awards, which were given by Mr Lach to those students who have achieved 250 merits or more. In a truncated year, this is a phenomenal achievement and testament to their hard work across the board.
Nevertheless, while today marks a significant moment, we know that there is much still to be done, and therefore, we will hold off on the celebrations for just a short while longer until exams are done and we can all enjoy ourselves at Leavers Day and prom, both on Thursday 19 June.
Looking ahead to next week, students will have their English and Maths immersion days on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 8.30am to 2.30pm for which they will wear full school uniform. As mentioned in the email sent to parents this week, students are then on exam leave, for which they may wear their own (appropriate) clothing. Students this week also received details of how to sign in and out of the school site, which they will need to do if they come on site for revision, a teacher meeting, or the exams themselves.
Throughout the exam period, we will be on hand to help and support students however we can, and we look forward to seeing them recognised for all the hard work they have put in.

Over the Easter break, a group of talented girls from our team were selected to compete in the South East England Regional relays—an incredible achievement in itself.
They rose to the occasion with outstanding performances, achieving personal bests in many of their races and significantly improving on their overall team entry positions. Their dedication, teamwork, and determination truly shone through on the day.
We are extremely proud of their efforts and achievements.
Congratulations to all the girls involved!

GLF Schools is improving how our children are kept safe when using school devices by changing the way we monitor technology. We are beginning to use “Smoothwall Monitor” which helps to protect children by monitoring what they are writing and searching. It alerts our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) if any concerning or high-risk content is detected. This proactive approach enables us to respond quickly and appropriately to potential risks, ensuring a safer digital experience for all children.
What does this mean for your child?
On all school-managed devices, Smoothwall Monitor will be active whenever your child is logged in.
For Google Chrome, monitoring is linked to the child’s account. If your child logs into Google Chrome at home using their school account, their activity will continue to be captured, even outside of school premises.
School staff will not be monitoring activity outside of school hours but will be notified the next working day so please continue to be vigilant about your child’s use of technology.
If they log into personal accounts on a personal device, Smoothwall Monitor will not track or monitor any activity under those accounts.
Why is this necessary?
This ensures that we can continue to safeguard children not only within school but also when they use school accounts outside of school hours. It allows us to identify any safeguarding concerns—such as issues around mental health, bullying, or exposure to inappropriate content—so we can alert parents and carers and offer timely support.
Privacy and Data Protection
We understand the importance of privacy. Smoothwall Monitor is designed specifically for safeguarding purposes and complies fully with GDPR and other data protection regulations. Monitoring focuses solely on identifying potential risks and safeguarding concerns.
How can you support?
We encourage you to have open discussions with your child about safe and responsible online behaviour. If you have any questions about Smoothwall Monitor or how it affects your child, please feel free to contact dsl@roseberyschool.co.uk
You may be aware that children who were adopted from local authority care or who have left care under a special guardianship or care arrangements order (formally known as a residence order), are eligible to attract the pupil premium. The pupil premium is an additional sum to help the school to provide universal and specific support as appropriate to raise attainment and address the wider needs of vulnerable children. With the funding challenges at present any additional funds could be helpful to all students learning and wellbeing support.
If you wish Rosebery school to access this additional funding, you will need to ensure that we are aware that your daughter was adopted from care or left care under a guardianship or care arrangements order. This information will then be included in the October 2025 school Census, triggering payment of pupil premium to the school. You will be asked to provide evidence, for example, a copy of the adoption order, however this will be kept confidential in accordance with data protection legislation. You may also want to take the opportunity to discuss with the DSL your wishes around any specific sharing of this information.
Please contact dsl@roseberyschool.co.uk to discuss this further if you feel it is relevant or wish to clarify your situation with us.

We’re pleased to share details of two special events taking place at Rosebery over the next couple of weeks. These days are an opportunity for our school community to come together in celebration, reflection, and support of an important cause.
Next Wednesday, we will be celebrating Rosebery Day with a whole-school picnic in the quad at lunchtime. Students are invited to bring their favourite picnic foods, drinks, and a blanket to enjoy with friends. There will also be live music and games, making it a fantastic way to celebrate our school community.
We are incredibly grateful to our Year 10 Junior Prefect Team for delivering a thoughtful and engaging assembly to each year group this week ahead of our celebrations next week, helping students learn more about Rosebery’s rich heritage and history. We are incredibly proud of their contribution and leadership.
As part of Melanoma Awareness Month, we will be holding a sponsored Skip-a-thon on Friday 16 May in memory of Natalie Street, a former Rosebery student. The event will raise funds for the Royal Marsden Hospital, which provided exceptional care to Natalie and her family.
Year 7 and Year 12 students will participate during lesson time.
All other students and staff are welcome to join in during lunchtime.
This is a sponsored event and students who wish to take part are encouraged to collect sponsorship. Sponsorship forms are available from school – students can speak to Miss Canessa if they need one.
All donations and sponsorship money should be brought into school on Thursday 15 or Friday 16 May.
In support of the event, Friday 16 May will also be a non-uniform (mufti) day, with a suggested donation of £1. We encourage all students and staff to wear orange to show support for Melanoma Awareness Month.
Thank you for your continued support of these important and meaningful school events.
The nurses have reopened the portal for parents/carers who would like their child to receive this vaccination but have not yet consented.
If you missed this opportunity and would like your child to receive this vaccination, please complete the e-consent by visiting www.surreyimmunisations.co.uk and entering your schools unique code SR137736.
They will be revisiting Rosebery School on Wednesday 4 June 2025, please note the change of date, and on completion of the consent form, they will be added to the list to be seen then.
Any queries please email the nurses at csh.eastimmsadmin@nhs.net
All Year 7 students will take part in a fun one-hour chess workshop during the school day on Thursday 15 May.
This special session is run by a charity called ‘Chess in Schools and Communities’, and it’s a great chance for your child to:
Learn how to play chess
Improve their skills if they already know how to play
Why chess?
Chess is a fantastic game that helps students:
Think carefully and solve problems
Be patient and plan ahead
Focus and stay calm
Show good sportsmanship and teamwork
It’s a great way for students to build confidence while having fun in a relaxed, friendly setting. It doesn’t matter if your daughter has never played chess before or already loves it—we’re sure she will enjoy this exciting and educational session!

A letter was sent out before the Easter break regarding the Year 10 ‘Ready? Set? Go!’ revision guide, workbook and study guide. As mentioned, this book is designed using the content that all students will be assessed on regardless of their tier of entry so, whilst not compulsory, we would strongly recommend you purchase this for your child in preparation for their End of Year Assessments in June.
Please note that the deadline on ParentPay has been extended to Monday 28 April 2025.
