The Rosechella Festival came to an end this week, culminating in the wonderful Rosebery “Together” Concert yesterday evening. It was a lovely end to a brilliant week of activities, with a festival vibe playing out in the evening sunshine in the Quad. Thank you to all those who attended and performed – I’m not sure there was a dry eye in the house when Miss Fielding and Miss Devonish both featured in a beautiful rendition of ‘Fix You’ sung in unison by all the student performers, to a video montage of the year that was. Special mention to Mr Holloway, our Head of Music, for orchestrating the event, ably assisted by his new wing man – Mr Faunce-Brown!
Earlier in the week we said farewell and good luck to the Year 13 Class of 2025, holding a special leavers’ assembly in the morning, followed by their Prom, on Wednesday evening. The full range of emotions were on show throughout the celebrations organised by Mr Phillips and Mrs Boundy - joy, sadness but ultimately pride in a super-talented cohort who will be missed – do keep in touch ladies.
At the other end of the scale, we are very much looking forward to welcoming our new Year 6 into Year 7 girls to Rosebery on Tuesday, as they begin their own 7-year journey on Transition Day.
As the very warm weather is forecast to continue next week, shirt sleeve order continues - with your daughter being welcome to leave her blazer at home and asked not to wear a jumper. Please also ensure she brings a full, re-fillable water bottle with her every day, and encourage her to remain well hydrated throughout the day. Should she wish to bring a hat or shade to use a break and lunchtime, this is also permitted, noting that it is forecast to be particularly hot on Monday and Tuesday.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

It's only fitting that during Rosebery’s Rosechella Arts Festival, we have the perfect opportunity to celebrate the many talented artists in our community—both as a collective and as individuals!
This week, Rosechella festivities reached a high point with two major events involving Year 9. First up was the Epsom and Ewell Dance Festival at the Epsom Playhouse on Tuesday and Wednesday. While I’m sure Miss Elms will share more details in her own post, I couldn’t let the moment pass without recognising the incredible dedication of the Year 9 students who took part. They worked tirelessly in preparation for their performance—and what’s even more impressive is that the choreography was entirely student-led! A huge well done to all of you for your hard work. Here's hoping this is just the beginning—and that competitions might be on the horizon!
My personal highlight this week was the Rosebery Together Summer Concert, held yesterday evening. As always, Mr Holloway did a fantastic job organising such a special event, but the real stars were the incredible performers who so bravely and generously shared their talents with us all. I’m constantly amazed by the level of talent among our students at Rosebery—and, if I may say so myself, I’m especially proud of what I believe is the most talented year group of all!
To round off this week, I’d like to share two fantastic personal success stories.
Firstly, Imogen D 9PY recently took her Grade 5 piano exam—and passed with a Merit! This is a phenomenal achievement, and having heard her play before, I can say it’s thoroughly well deserved. I can’t wait to hear about your progress as you move on to the next grade—congratulations!
Secondly, Sophie-Anne B 9EX performed in Stagecoach Epsom’s Gala at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking, taking part in four musical numbers during what was an impressive four-hour event. Most remarkably, out of 440 students, she was one of just three to receive a special award—hers for Outstanding Performance. If you’re a regular reader, you’ll recognise Sophie-Anne's name for her ongoing success in ballroom dancing. It’s genuinely inspiring to see such a multi-talented performer, who works so hard to master every aspect of her craft.
A huge well done to both of you—we’re incredibly proud!
Have a lovely weekend.

Well, they’ve only gone and done it!
There are moments when I wish families could be a fly on the wall—because then you’d truly see just how brilliant Year 10 have been during their mock exam fortnight. I am incredibly proud of every single student—not just for what they’ve achieved, but for the bravery and maturity they’ve shown throughout.
As I mentioned last week, we all remember the stress and nerves that come with sitting exams, and it’s no different for our students. But having this experience so early in their GCSE journey means they’re developing the resilience and skills that will serve them well later on. Practice really does make perfect, and I’m so excited about the path they’re on.
Staff have repeatedly stopped me in the corridor to say how impressed they are—students have been handing in practice essays, turning up with the right equipment, and showing genuine preparedness. So, thank you to all of you at home for the support you’re giving—it truly makes a difference.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Year 10 have also thrown themselves into PE moderation this week, Sports Day throwing events today, and of course the wonderful Summer Music Concert last night. I hope they (and you!) get a well-earned rest this weekend.
Next week brings a new challenge as Year 10 swap the classroom for the workplace. Our students will be entering the world of work for up to five days, and we’re here to support you throughout. If any issues arise, please don’t hesitate to get in touch—we’ll also be contacting you or your child’s employer to ensure everything is going smoothly.
For some students, next week will look a little different. A large group is currently on their way to the Euro Space Centre for what promises to be an incredible trip—I can’t wait to hear all about it when they return. Others will be taking part in their final Silver DofE expedition at the end of the week—good luck to all involved, and I look forward to hearing your stories too!
And finally, a massive well done to Heidi R 10CY, along with Pippa R 8CY, Ella P 10PX, and Scarlett M 11CX, who performed with their band Bloodlines at the Reigate Summer Festival last Saturday. After being selected by Reigate College through auditions, they played a 30-minute set of original songs and covers on the aptly named Tunnel Stage—and have already been approached to perform at other venues! What an incredible achievement—well done to all of you!

Visiting practitioner Jack Sunderland worked with 10 groups of students over 2 days. He delivered workshops in the style of Theatre de Complicite, in which students created performances called 'Small Space, Small World' and 'Small Space, Big World', where they used their creativity and imagination to come up with characters stuck in a lift ('small world') and in a high intensity chase scene ('big world'). For those opting for Drama in Year 9 or 10 next year, students took part in a special lunchtime workshop called 'Character Acting for Stage and Screen' which gave insight into how professional actors approach characters and scripts. We are hugely grateful to Jack for bringing fresh ideas and creativity to the Drama studios - and well done to everyone who took part!
Year 12 drama students Tom C, Aimee P, Sophia T, Rose P and Sylvie M 12F, performed their exam piece to parents. This half-hour hard-hitting and emotional performance was devised by the students. Well done to all of you for your hard work, you did a brilliant job! And thank you to Lilly C 12A and Abi Y 12B for supporting with lighting and sound.
This small but mighty group of students started out as a Masked Performance Club devising a play entitled 'The Park' including dancing grannies, a detective, teenagers and a mother and daughter. They worked incredibly hard and created this performance for your entertainment! They then went on to create a short drama piece in the horror genre, which they performed to an audience at lunchtime. I have really enjoyed working with this group - they have been so creative, committed, collaborative and, above all, full of energy and fun! Well done Mae W 7MY, Sylvie E 7EY, Mahlia P 7EY, Lotty S 7CY, Amelia S 7MY, Sophie C 7MY and Alice H 7PY.
Students took part in lunchtime workshops learning how to make special effect wounds, cuts and bruises. Zoe is a professional creative makeup artist and guided the students through the process using specialist materials. The effects were very realistic - definitely not for the squeamish!
Mrs House-Lee writes:
Congratulations to the cast of 'In the Shadows of the Attic' for their brilliant performance on Monday 23 June. The play told the story of a young Victorian woman named Annabelle (Molly U 8PY, centre) who found herself trapped as a ghost in the attic of a house belonging to two sisters, Sophie (Poppy D 8EX, second right) and Katie (Amber C 8PY second left). Through flashbacks to the Victorian period featuring Miss Edwards, Annabelle's governess (Sophia P 8EY, far right) and Jane, her maid, (Raavi T 8PY far left), the two sisters help Annabelle solve the mystery of her death and her imprisonment in their house. We had a short rehearsal period for this production, but the cast worked extremely hard and were very dedicated. They were a joy to direct and should be very proud of their performance achievements.

On Wednesday evening, the Year 8 and 9 Rounders players travelled to Three Rivers Academy to play in a tri-fixture along with Cobham Free School. It was the first game for the Year 9s and, as we were arriving they started to show a few nerves and were worried about how good the schools were going to be! However, as I said to the girls, the better the opposition, the better we will play!
The girls had no need to be worried, as they are very strong team with lots of great hitters amongst them! Our first game was against Cobham Free School and there was no time to warm up as we went straight in to bat! Matilda D 9PX stepped up first and did a great first hit which set the team off on a scoring roll. More rounders came from Lucy V 8PX, Darci V-R 9MY and Zayna A 9PY. After a very strong batting innings, the girls now needed to focus and stop Cobham Free from scoring more! Fielding-wise, the girls were straight on it, pushing the ball to second or fourth to stop the scores, with Cobham Free School struggling to convert their hits into rounders. So, after a great innings of both batting and fielding, Rosebery won 10.5 - 6!
We then played Three Rivers Academy and switched the team up to play the Year 8s who had come along to help get the numbers up! They took it in their stride despite playing a team who were a year above them. We fielded first, and India S 8CX on backstop was putting in some superb throws to Caitlyn K 8CX on second, which resulted in Three Rivers struggling to score any halves. The girls continued to field and communicate well, which resulted in Three Rivers only scoring 3.5. As we stepped in to bat, the girls were confident and took the risks when they needed to. The hits were flying and the rounders were coming in thick and fast! After the twenty good balls, Rosebery had won the match 7.5 - 3.5.
Thank you, girls for a fantastic afternoon of rounders in the sun! More fixtures are coming this term, so we are looking forward to seeing how you progress!
The Year 7 and 8 Rounders team travelled to Priory School on Tuesday afternoon for another exciting fixture – and, for once, the weather was glorious (if only netball season had the same luck!). With no time for a warm-up, the girls jumped straight into their games. The Year 7 team started strong in their first innings, scoring some excellent rounders early on from their 18 balls. Priory, however, showed solid fielding skills and managed to restrict our scoring more than we’d hoped. At the end of the innings, we had 5 rounders, but Priory edged ahead with 7. The second innings was even tighter. The girls took smart risks and showed impressive teamwork in the field to keep Priory from extending their lead. Their efforts paid off as they held Priory to a draw in that innings. Despite this strong finish, the overall score was still in Priory’s favour: 12.5 to 10.5. Congratulations to Ava B 7CX who received player of the match!
The Year 8 game got off to a fantastic start – I could hear the girls’ excitement and cheers echoing across the field! As I swapped in to umpire for the second innings, their teacher commented on how strong our team looked and admitted she was worried we might run away with it – and that’s exactly what we did! Bonnie S-F was in excellent form with the bat, while we made some brilliant catches to keep the opposition’s score low. India S was braving the bushes to retrieve those tricky backward hits, and Caitlyn K, positioned on second, was alert and ready for every throw. The girls were absolutely phenomenal, finishing with an impressive 19.5 – 6 victory – another outstanding result to extend their unbeaten streak!
A huge congratulations to Bonnie S-F and Neve K 8CY, who were deservedly named Players of the Match.
Last Thursday afternoon (in very hot conditions) the Year 8 Rounders team had another fixture against Three Rivers Academy. The game soon got underway, with Rosebery opting to field first. There was some fantastic bowling from Bonnie S-F 8CX which meant the opposition's batters were struggling to hit the ball successfully. When they did, Evie O-S 8MY and Lucy C 8MY were there to pick them up and get them straight to Caitlyn on second! Izzy C 8MY in backstop was also throwing some brilliant bowls to Phoebe B 8CY on fourth to stop the score!
The girls did so well that they stopped Three Rivers from getting any rounders in their innings. Rosebery then went to bat and India S 8CX whacked the first ball so far that we had won the game on the first ball! The girls carried on and the rounders and half rounders were flowing. By the last ball, we had scored 10 to Three Rivers' 0. Well done girls for another very convincing win and, in particular, to India S and Bonnie S-F, who received the players of the match.
Mrs Hart-McKee - PE Teacher
A group of Year 9 GCSE Dance students took to the stage at the Epsom Playhouse as part of a vibrant dance show, performing a piece that showcased their skill, creativity, and commitment on the theme of 'transport'. Their routine impressed the audience with strong technique, expression, and teamwork, marking a proud moment in their dance journey. I am beyond proud of this group; particularly for representing the school in such a mature manner. Well done girls!
