It was a delight to welcome our new Year 6 Rosebery Girls to the School at their Transition Day on Tuesday, and I must commend the older students on the kindness and warm welcome that they showed our new recruits, as well as the excitement at seeing students who were visiting from their old primary school!
We then hosted our New Staff Induction Day on Thursday, and further to my recent letter, we will write to confirm staff leavers and joiners, in the end of term Rosebery News, on Friday 18 July.
Last weekend Year 10 Students attended a Physics trip to the Euro Space Centre in Brussels. Returning on Monday, the students and Science teachers in attendance had a brilliant time, staying in the Space Centre itself for 3 nights. They completed a wonderful range of activities and workshops, including a Space Shuttle Launch Simulation, Rocket Building Workshop, Moonwalk Simulator, Space Gravity Rotor, as well as a torch lit tour of Boullion Castle. I know Mr Caines and Mr Lowde are very excited and busily planning next year’s trip already!
Indeed, it’s been a busy week for Year 10, since their mock exams, with the students on work experience this week as part of our Careers & Futures Programme, and 44 of them departing for the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition, in the Peak District, today. I believe Slovenia was announced as next year’s Gold Qualifying Expedition for Year 12, which I know our Year 11 students are very excited about, following the success of Majorca this year.
Next week is a big one at Rosebery, with two key events taking place. On Tuesday it is Sports Day, so please remember to drop your daughter to the Harrier Centre in Ewell – and not at Rosebery!
Girls should all arrive by 8.30am and be in full PE kit. We suggest they all bring plenty of water, a packed lunch and snacks – although the Senior Prefect Team are running a small tuck shop, accepting cash and card payments. Currently it is due to be nice summer day, so the girls should apply suncream and wear a hat. They are also welcome to bring picnic blankets, shade, and even share small tents, should they wish, but we would ask that they leave valuable items at home, as at times these will be left unattended, and if they do bring such items, they do so at their own risk.
Then on Thursday, it is Open Evening, for prospective families with daughters in Year 5. This is also such an important and well-attended event, and relies on our students playing a full and active part. As such, we are expecting all students in Years 7 and 8 to assist as Tour Guides, and departments will be asking for Subject Helpers from Year 9 and Year 10, with Year 12 students helping host the event. The event will runs from 4.30pm until 7.15pm, and we would ask that students arrive for 4.00pm and are collected by 7.30pm.
Please note that, as a result, students will be dismissed early on Thursday, at 1.10pm – the end of Period 4. There will be no lunchtime canteen service that day, and we suggest that students go home for lunch, a rest and to freshen up, before returning in full school uniform if they are a Tour Guide or Subject Helper.
Finally, it is the GLF Boundless Festival and an INSET Day on Friday 11 July – so the school will be closed to students on Friday.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

This week, excitement and anticipation for Sports Day has continued to build. During form time, students have now completed designing their flags and banners to cheer on their form, peers, and house. We’re especially looking forward to seeing Year 7 enjoy their first Sports Day at Rosebery!
Congratulations to all the Year 7 students who took part in the LAMDA Showcase on Wednesday evening. We are incredibly proud of your bravery and confidence in delivering such inspiring performances. #Remarkable #Proud
Year 7 have also been busy in lessons this week. In Art, students have been creating Ukiyo-e lino prints inspired by Hokusai and other artists. Meanwhile, in English, they’ve been preparing and delivering presentations on poems they’ve studied this year – great work, everyone! Keep it up and make the most of your remaining Year 7 lessons this term.
This morning, Year 7 attended an additional assembly led by Miss Godwin and Miss Monk to reinforce expectations for behaviour both in and outside of lessons. As the weather warms up and the end of term approaches, please continue to remind students of the importance of showing integrity and kindness at all times – doing what is right, not what is easy.
In form time, we are also continuing to reflect on how we can be ‘Year 8 Ready’, with a focus on punctuality, uniform standards, and positive behaviours.
#HaveCourage #BeKind

A hello from Miss Godsave…
I’m delighted to be continuing the journey into Year 8 as the new Deputy Head of Year. It’s been a pleasure getting to know many of the students this year through 7CY and in our Geography lessons, and I’m excited to now have the opportunity to support the whole year group more closely. Whether I’ve worked with your child before or not, there’s so much to look forward to in the year ahead. I’m committed to helping every student thrive, and I’ll be there to encourage and support them every step of the way.

Further to the letter families received this week about our Pastoral Leadership for next year, I would like to extend a very sincere and warm thanks to everyone who has supported me in the Head of Year role since January. My family and I are moving to France in August, and I have been offered the opportunity to be a Head of Sixth Form in an international school. I would have loved to take Year 8 through to their GCSE results day (and if I could pick up Rosebery and move it to France I would!). I will genuinely miss their positivity, resilience and kindness; they are a wonderful year group and I know they will go on to achieve amazing things.
On Thursday, 8EX said farewell to Mrs Rathore as she departs on maternity leave. They demonstrated their caring, thoughtful and generous nature; showing Mrs Rathore just how much she has meant to them over the past two years - she couldn’t carry all the cards, presents, flowers and beautiful handmade gifts!
This week, we are thrilled to share the gymnastics achievements of Penny C 8EY! For the last week she has been competing in Las Vegas at the IAIGC World Championships and placed All Around 1st in her age category. We are so proud of her and are delighted that all of her hard work, determination and resilience has paid off! That gold medal looks amazing!
⭐ STARS OF THE WEEK ⭐

A hello from Mr Hewett…
I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Deputy Head of Year 8 & 9. I’m truly looking forward to working closely with these fantastic year groups, supporting both your daughter's academic progress and personal development. It’s a privilege to be part of your daughter's journey, and I’m excited to help guide and encourage them through the year ahead. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can do to support you or your daughter.
Mr Hewett
Mrs Hatfield-Giraux
Head of Year 8
It’s been a noticeably quieter week, with the majority of Year 10 out of school on work experience or taking part in virtual courses. For those who have been in, it’s felt a little like stepping into a call centre – students focused at their computers with headsets on!
The feedback we’ve received from placements and providers reflects exactly how I feel about Year 10 on a daily basis: polite, well-presented, friendly, mature, and an absolute pleasure to work with. Well done, Year 10!
It’s also been a slightly unstructured week for some students, with a mix of those returning from the Euro Space Centre trip and others preparing for the Silver DofE expedition, which began today. Staff couldn’t be prouder – they commented on how organised and polite our students were throughout the trip. I have every confidence our girls will continue to make us proud during the DofE this weekend and beyond.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting week coming up as Year 10 take part in their final Sports Day at the pillar school on Tuesday. I love these events – they bring out the best in our community spirit, showcase a wide range of talents, and of course, there’s plenty of glitter and face paint!
Following Sports Day, we move into Activities Week – full details can be found in a separate section.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend ahead.
A hello from Mrs Packham…
I'm truly honoured and excited to be returning to the pastoral team as Deputy Head of Year 11 this September. As your daughter begins this important year, I want to first acknowledge the lasting impact Miss Fielding will have had. Her care and commitment to your daughter will have been deeply valued, and I’m dedicated to continuing that same level of support and encouragement. Year 11 is a significant and sometimes challenging year, not only for students but for parents as well. Please know that I’m here to work alongside Mr Waight and you, to support, guide, and help your daughter make the most of the opportunities that lie ahead.

We are excited to share that students across Years 7 to 10 have been invited to take part in this year’s Open Evening on Thursday 10 July 2025, showcasing life at Rosebery School to prospective families.
Year 7 and 8 students are tour guides, helping to welcome visitors and show them around the school, while selected Year 9 and 10 students will support staff as department guides, sharing their subject knowledge and enthusiasm. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop confidence, communication skills and a sense of responsibility.
Letters with full details have been sent home today via Bromcom. Please check your messages and respond via ParentPay if your daughter is taking part.
Please be advised that ePraise, our online rewards platform, will be closed from Friday 4 July to allow for essential updates and preparations for the new academic year.
We kindly ask that students spend any remaining merits before this date, as unspent merits will not roll over into September. Additionally, any rewards not collected before the closure will be refunded.
We appreciate your support and understanding as we work to enhance the platform for the coming year.

The 17 and 18 of July will both be school mufti days. Students can wear their own clothes in return for any unwanted good quality school uniform and PE kit that is no longer needed. Donations can be handed in on both mornings in the school foyer. We would like to remind you that there will be a celebration evening on 18 July and therefore any students attending will need to wear their school uniform.
We will be holding a Pre-loved Uniform sale on Friday 25 July at 3.15pm in the school hall (entrance to the sale via the side fire exits). All items sold will be on a first-come first-served basis.

It has been a very busy couple of weeks in the Music Department, and I am very proud and very grateful for how many talented, hard-working and enthusiastic Music students we have here at Rosebery. From Friday Live to fantastic exam results, to the Summer Concert last week, they have represented themselves, the department and the school in the best way – thank you to all of them.
Congratulations to the following students who have all recently passed Music exams with excellent results:
Charlotte B 11MY– Singing Grade 2 (merit)
Poppy M 10EY – Singing Grade 4 (distinction)
Elle W 10CY - Singing Grade 4 (merit)
Mia H-E 10MY - Singing Grade 4 (distinction)
Chloe Y 10MY – Singing Grade 3 (merit)
Imogen D 9PY – Piano Grade 5 (merit)
There are more exams taking place over the next week or so, please pass on results to me so that we can celebrate the students’ successes.
Together with Art, Dance and Drama, it was a busy but successful week highlighting the importance of the Performing Arts.
For example, did you know that:
The government estimates that creative industries generated £126bn in gross value added to the economy and employed 2.4 million people in 2022
The Arts can support child development, encourage health-promoting behaviours, help to prevent ill-health and especially mental health
Employers consistently look for strong communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability and initiative – examples of all these can be found in Arts lessons at Rosebery!
I was delighted to welcome James Crompton into the department on Friday 20 June to run three DJ workshop sessions. James has been a DJ for 20 years and is the Digital Lead for Surrey Arts. As you can see in the photos, James worked with Year 8 and 9 musicians, introducing them to what it takes to be a DJ and the skills required, and most importantly giving them a chance to try it out. The students all had a fantastic time, and James was very complimentary about “our lovely school.”
Following the DJ workshop, we then had an hour to take our weekly Friday Live concert from it’s usual home in G12 out into the Quad. Many thanks to Mr Faunce-Brown for his help in setting up the equipment, but an even bigger thank you to the students who volunteered to perform: Lesley T 9MX, Riley R-E & Rohini H 7PY, Emma E 9PX, Nicole B 9CX, Amy M 9CX, Olivia B 9EX and Evie D 9CX and Rose H 11EX, Zara S 11MX, Rhea T 11MY and Lauren R 11CX (all Year 11s who came in to perform even though it was the day after their Prom!)
Rosechella culminated on Thursday 26 June with the Summer Concert, this year titled ‘Together’ - a celebration of community, connection and collective strength. Given the unprecedented year of challenges that our school community has faced, this event was especially meaningful. 'Together' reflects not only our resilience, but also the way in which we’ve come together to support one another with care, creativity, and compassion.
A massive thank you to all the students who performed so well last Thursday, and also to all of the parents/carers, friends, family and staff who supported us. I thought I would use part of Mrs Carnegie’s lovely email to summarise what a special evening it was:
“Yesterday evening was superb in every way… the arrangements of Coldplay and others were first class enabling our wonderful musicians to shine. I fully appreciate the time and skill required for such wonderful sounds. The readings were spot on, and the necessity and the power of music were demonstrated throughout the evening”
Unfortunately, I was so busy on the evening that I didn’t manage to find a photographer, so if any parents have any photos of the concert, please feel free to email one or two to me! ( dholloway1@glfschools.org )
Thank you for all your support over the academic year for the Music Department, it is very much appreciated. I wish you all a relaxing, well-deserved, and musical summer break.
Mr Holloway - Head of Music
The Year 8 Rounders team put in a strong performance to secure a 16.5 – 12 victory against Ashcombe School. From the very first innings, the team showed great teamwork, focus and determination both in the field and while batting. Bonnie S-F 8CX was voted Fielder of the Match and India S 8CX was voted Batter of the Match. Well done girls!
The Year 9 Rounders team also put on a fantastic display in their match against Ashcombe School, showing great energy and teamwork throughout. Their batting was strong, with several players hitting confidently and making quick, smart runs to build up the score, winning with a score of 11 - 10.5. Fielder of the Match went to Violet A 9CX, and Batter of the Match went to Darci V-R 9MY. Well done, girls!

On Thursday 26 June, the Year 7 students travelled to Hinchley Wood School to take part in an inter-school athletics tournament. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation as the girls prepared to compete against several other schools. Despite some nerves, the team demonstrated outstanding determination and sportsmanship throughout the event. Their hard work paid off, with the girls placing in the top three for the majority of events, and several athletes achieving first place finishes in their respective disciplines. It was a fantastic display of talent, teamwork, and school spirit. Please see the results below.
