SUMMER SPECIAL
SUMMER SPECIAL
It’s been a wonderful end to the Summer Term, with Sports Day, Activities Week and Celebration Assemblies all taking place since I last wrote to you. I spoke at Celebration Evening last night about this remarkable school, this remarkable community and your remarkable daughters, who even in the most challenging of years have remained ambitious and joyful to the end – and that is evidenced throughout Rosebery News.
Their academic excellence, their creative brilliance, their sporting success, their quiet acts of leadership, have all shone through – even in the darkest of years. I am genuinely proud of their resilience, their ability to keep going, to support one another, and to believe in each other – and we celebrated that with them across the last two days. We have celebrated the very best of Rosebery School - a community built on character, courage, and care for one another.
In many ways, the Rosebery Community is like a family, and as the cast of Peter Pan sang so beautifully in the school production – Family Means Love.
As we break for the summer holiday, we bid farewell to the following colleagues – Mr Ferris, Mrs Cooke, Mrs Wiggins, Mrs Massoudi, Ms Linehan, Ms Fletcher, Mrs Hatfield-Giraux and Mrs Dever – and wish them all the very best for the future.
We then look forward to welcoming and introducing you to new colleagues in September, please be reminded that the first day of school for Year 7 and Year 12 is Tuesday 2 September, with all other Year Groups returning at 9.45am on Wednesday 3 September.
In the meantime, I wish you and your family a wonderful summer break, and please do take the time to enjoy the rest of Rosebery News.

It has been my absolute privilege to work with Year 7 as their Head of Year this academic year. From the moment I met these students for the first time at our Transition events, including primary school visits, small school mixers and Transition Day, and from meeting parents/carers at Transition Evening, it was evident to me that this year would be amazing – and it has been. I have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm, energy, kindness and courage that Year 7 bring to school each and every day. Welcomed by teachers and older students, Year 7 very soon became part of the Rosebery community. They have demonstrated the Rosebery values, bringing ambition and joy to their lessons, extra-curricular clubs, House events, trips and to their wider community. It has been a joy to get to know Year 7 this year and I am so excited to see them continue to flourish in Year 8 with Miss Monk as their Head of Year and Miss Godsave as Deputy Head of Year.
As we celebrate our achievements this year, it has been a real privilege to support the students throughout their first year of secondary school. In my role as Deputy Head of Year, I’ve had the opportunity to guide them through their celebrations, the challenges they’ve faced, all while helping them learn how to overcome obstacles along the way. From our very first Transition Day to PGL, and now to our final day as Year 7, I couldn’t be prouder of how much they’ve grown and achieved. I am determined to help the girls continue to develop in confidence, resilience and ambition as we take the next steps together and I become their Head of Year 8. I’m really looking forward to the journey ahead – we’ve got an exciting year in front of us and I can’t wait to see all that they accomplish.
Year 7 are officially Year 8 ready!

Miss Monk
Deputy Head of Year 7
I would like to extend my thanks to all staff, students and parents/carers for their support over the past few months. Taking on the Head of Year role in such difficult circumstances was not easy, but I was honoured to continue the hard work of Miss Devonish. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know Year 8 - they are a wonderful year group. I wish them all the very best for the rest of their time here at Rosebery and beyond, and know that I am leaving them in the very capable hands of Miss Godwin and Mr Hewett. Have a lovely summer, everyone and go for it in Year 9 – you'll smash it!

Mrs Hatfield-Giraux
Head of Year 8
We have officially finished the year and Year 9 are now fully-fledged GCSE students. It has been a distinct pleasure of mine to see the growth, resilience, kindness and ambition for this year group once again, and I am incredibly excited to continue to work with this year group throughout the next two years.
Our end of year has been one full of highlights, and I hope that Year 9 have enjoyed the past few weeks as much as I have. Firstly, our Sports Day was a phenomenal show of the teamwork that has become a signature of this year group over the last two years. I always love to see the encouragement and cheering-on that this year group does for one another, especially on one of the best days of the academic year.
We also had a wonderfully successful Activities Week, with the vast majority of Year 9 completing their DofE Bronze Expedition. Despite the heat, some lovely British rain, and a lot of exhausted campers with little sleep, I am pleased with the overall determination of the group, and congratulate them on a hard-earned award!
My personal highlight of Activities Week though, was our in-school community project. For this, Year 9 and 10 spent time planning an afternoon tea for local elderly residents, with students preparing drama performances, songs to sing, food for the afternoon or creating decorations to make the hall inviting. The event itself was an undeniable success, with some wonderful performances from students and so many Year 9s going out of their way to talk to the residents to make sure they had a wonderful afternoon. A special shoutout to Milly P 9PY, Sophie Anne B, Maisy R 9EX, Fern M, Rhianna S 9MX, Rachel N 9PX and Anna-Sophia E 9CX for giving up their own lunchtime to talk with our residents and even having a dance with them! It is so wonderful to see Year 9 engaged with members of the community in such a positive way!
Sadly, we do say goodbye to Ms Cooke, who has provided such invaluable support and experience to this team, and her dedication to making sure every student is celebrated is truly inspiring. We will miss her dearly and wish her the best as she becomes a Head of Year at her new school. We welcome Mr Hewett to the team next year as Deputy Head of Year, which will be a fantastic addition to the team.
Finally, I’d like to thank all of the parents and carers who we, as a year team, have worked with this year. I am grateful for the support you provide to our students at home, and I am always pleased to know that we are united both at home and at school. I am excited for what is to come next year, and I hope you’re all able to have a wonderful summer before we get back to it in September!

Deputy Head of Year 7, Miss Monk, had this to say:
"This week, Year 7 enjoyed a fantastic Activities Week packed with creativity, sunshine, and lots of animals! On Monday, we visited the zoo, where the students had an amazing time exploring and spotting wildlife. The penguins were perfect photo-posers, and we even made some unexpected friends with the ostriches! On Tuesday, creativity took centre stage as the girls designed stop-motion films inspired by their favourite animals, experimenting with a range of artistic techniques. On Wednesday, they brought together everything they’d learned to create interactive board games based on the habitats they observed at the zoo, from Snowstorm Extravaganza to Slippery Snakes! It’s been a joyful and inspiring week, full of imagination, teamwork, and fun!"
Head of PE, Miss Croft said:
"What an incredible day full of sunshine, sports, and sparkle!
Our annual Sports Day was a fantastic celebration of athleticism, teamwork, and school spirit. The sun shone brightly as students and staff came together to take part in a wide variety of track and field events, each showcasing determination, enthusiasm, and friendly competition.
In addition to the traditional races and field activities, the day featured some exciting team events that brought out the competitive spirit in all, none more so than the ever-popular tug of war and a lively bench ball, which had everyone cheering from the sidelines.
A true highlight of the day was the team relays. Every form entered a team, making it one of the most competitive and entertaining events on the schedule. The atmosphere was electric, with students giving it their all and classmates offering roaring support.
A massive congratulations to Pankhurst House, who were crowned the overall winners of the day, a well-deserved achievement following outstanding performances across multiple events.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Team PE for their organisation and smooth execution of the day’s events. Your energy and effort were the driving force behind the success of Sports Day. Thanks also to all the staff who supported and helped make the day run so smoothly your presence and encouragement meant so much.
Sports Day 2025 will be one to remember – for the sunshine, the sports, and the undeniable sparkle of our school community, bring on 2026!"
Mrs Hatfield-Giraux had this to say:
"Sports Day was an absolute highlight of this term, and we were so pleased to see so many students throw themselves into the events; it was lovely to see how competitive 8EY were in the tug of war! Students' behaviour was exemplary, and they were delighted to represent their house, with a few Curie students resembling Smurfs!"
Miss Godwin said this:
"What an absolute joy it was to see Year 7 experience their first Sport's Day at Rosebery! Year 7 took House spirit to the next level - they arrived adorned in colours of their houses, with students in each event supported by fellow Year 7s cheering them in encouragement and motivation while waving flags that they had designed in form time. Year 7 participated in their sporting events with maximum effort and cheered particularly loudly for the staff relay and staff Vs Sixth Form tug of war! Well done to all Year 7s for your participation - especially those who won events!"
In the words of Ms Godwin:
"What an amazing final two days Year 7 have had in school, taking part in celebration lessons in their subjects. A highlight has been our Year 7 Celebration Assembly, where we got to celebrate the achievements of so many Year 7 students, such as for achieving merits, for being Stars of the Week, for having 100% attendance all academic year, for having zero de-merits in Year 7, for their progress and attainment academically, for their engagement in extracurricular clubs, as well as tutee of the year nominations from their tutors. Year 7 have all achieved so much and we could not be prouder!"
Ms Godwin said:
"This year it has been a privilege to watch our Young Voices rehearse and perform at many musical events throughout the school calendar, from 'Friday Live', to the Christmas Concert, at Epsom Playhouse and the Summer 'Together' Concert. What better way to round off the year than to perform at Boundless festival at Twickenham Stadium amongst other GLF schools, students and families. We are so proud of the confident performers that our Year 7 Young Voices have flourished into and can't wait to see them continue to grow as they enter into the Young Choir in Year 8.
A huge congratulations to Elena B-G 7CX, Ava B 7CX, Nancy D 7CY, Florence D 7PX, Jessie H 7PY, Chloe H 7MY, Lauren K 7PY, Megan L 7CY, Thea L 7CX, Chloe O 7CX, Carys P 7MY, Arlia P 7CX, Zoe P 7PX, Jocelyn S 7CX, Isabelle S 7CX, Nina S 7CY and Anaya U 7CY for your outstanding performances at Boundless Festival. #Remarkable #Proud"
Year 10 students recently returned from an exciting trip to the Euro Space Centre in Belgium, where they experienced life as astronauts-in-training.
Highlights included building and launching rockets, trying out the space rotor to feel astronaut-style G-forces, and taking part in a mission simulation, where they worked in teams to complete a space-themed challenge. They also enjoyed a magical torch-lit tour of Bouillon Castle, exploring its winding passages and learning about its fascinating history. And of course, no trip to Belgium would be complete without sampling some delicious Belgian chocolate!
All students behaved impeccably throughout the trip and threw themselves into every activity with enthusiasm and curiosity. The trip was full of fun, learning, and unforgettable memories. A big thank you to the staff who helped make it happen!

During part of their spring and summer term lessons, every Year 7 student designed their own Rosebery Doodle, based around the concept of a Google Doodle. These designs were then turned into actual logos using Adobe Photoshop and students entered their final versions into a Year 7 competition.
Well done to everyone for their hard work and amazing designs, which Ms Jacob and I thoroughly enjoyed looking through in our efforts to find a winning doodle. Please click HERE to view all the entries.
After some difficult deliberation, Violet J 7EX was judged the winner of the competition and we will be organising for her logo to go onto the Student Intranet page for next year. Luna C 7MY and Amelia D 7CY were awarded finalist places with Kaitlyn D 7CX, Ameira N 7CX, Sylvie S 7CX, Theodora E 7CY, Alejandra N 7CY, Sophie L 7EX, Sophie P 7EX, Stacy T 7EX, Sylvie E 7EY, Setso G 7EY, Heidi M 7EY, Mahlia P 7EY, Elissa P 7EY, Molly T 7EY, Nora B 7MX, Izzy C 7MX, Rita C 7MX, Lucy L 7MX, Sabrina W 7MX, Sophie M 7MX, Seraphina W 7MX, Carys P 7MY, Olivia Z 7MY, Stacey H 7PX, Wynne H 7PX, Erasmia M 7PX, Annie M 7PX, Martha G 7PY and Matilda M 7PY receiving Highly Commended.

Here we are at the end of another fundraising year! We’ve had a busy time and, most importantly, have provided many opportunities for us all to support really important projects and initiatives for school, which is amazing. We’ve funded over £20,000 for a great number of projects, from Science displays to MFL and the Music department to name just a few!
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us again this year, from raffle ticket purchases to buying a cup of tea, a snack, or a Christmas tree - you’ve really made a huge difference!
We’ve got a couple of events still to go, but I already know that we have comfortably raised over £20,000 again this year which is absolutely fantastic! We’ll share the final figures when we are back next term.
Please hold onto any unwanted study books and uniform and we’ll take in stock again at school next term, so please look out for our communications about events in the first term back.
Have an amazing summer and thanks again!
