At the end of a wonderful and action-packed half term, there is only one headline act with which to round off, Mrs Dever’s reflections on the School Production of Peter Pan:
"We couldn't be prouder of the cast and crew of Peter Pan! When we held auditions in September, we had so many students interested in taking part that we decided to have 2 full casts, giving the opportunity for 130 students to have the experience of taking part in a live performance. They have worked tirelessly through the winter months and it has been such a pleasure seeing them work as a team, with students across all year groups getting to know each other and form that special theatre bond! Now we have come to the week of performances, there has been much excitement, as costumes have been donned, puppets brought to life, and stage lights lit. We have also been able to share the dress rehearsals with some Drama and Music classes during the day (one big advantage of using the school hall this year). Our version of Peter Pan is a modern interpretation written by Evan Placey and first performed at the Rose Theatre, Kingston in 2023. The story itself sticks to the original tale, however, there are some poignant reflections, delivered through the narrator/character of 'Gran' about growing up and what it means to become an adult in today's world.
As ever, a school production is a team effort, and I am incredibly grateful to Mr Holloway, Mrs House-Lee, Mr Waight, Mrs Mariner, Mr Dray, Mrs Rundle, Ms Wiggins, Mr Faunce-Brown and also to the Premises team who have gone above and beyond to help out. Thank you too to all the parents/carers of the cast who helped provide costumes and support with students attending rehearsals, especially as these ramped up to include late evenings and weekends.
We have sold out across all our four performances and say 'break a leg', as the casts tread the boards for the final performances tonight!"
After half term our KS3 Blackout pilot begins, initially with Year 7 students, and then with Year 8 and 9 students later in the week. FAQs have been updated on our Blackout Pilot web page and Blackout have been working hard with GLF Schools to reassure us and parents/carers that the app (as it is the Education version) does not access any private data, and it does not track or record location data.
Year 7 have now received an email containing their authentication code for the Blackout App, which they will need to install before returning to school, if they wish to continue to bring a smart phone to school and keep it with them throughout the day.
For Android users, the app can be found on the Google Play Store
For iPhone users, it is available on the App Store
The Blackout App key screens for download and access are shown below to ensure students are accessing the correct app.
As a reminder, the app will only be active during term time, when the school is open, between 8.30am and 3.00pm and will be disabled at all other times. If your daughter is absent, she has the ability to disable the App, which will then automatically be re-enabled the following day.
Year 8 and Year 9 emails are due to be distributed on Wednesday 26 February, and we will write to those families and students directly, after half term.
Have a lovely half term break

This week, we celebrated many of our exceptional Year 7 students who are truly embodying the 'Rosebery Way' as well as our Year 7 motto, each and every day. From earning an abundance of merits and maintaining 100% attendance, to showing outstanding behaviour and commitment to school life – 'well done' all! Thank you for your patience as we add accolades onto ePraise.
A special shout-out this week goes to Amy M 7CY for her remarkable achievement in the Showstopper Musical Theatre competition in Essex. Amy, alongside her dance school, competed with teams from all over the UK and performed a brilliant rendition of 'Seize the Day' from Newsies and a medley from Everybody's Talking About Jamie. #Remarkable #Proud
The highlight of this week was our school production of Peter Pan, where so many of our students, including Year 7, shone on stage, showcasing their amazing talents. It was truly a delight to see all their hard work, creativity, and dedication come to life in such a spectacular way. A huge congratulations to all those who contributed to the amazing performances.

I would like to start by saying a huge 'thank you' for welcoming me so warmly as your new Head of Year this half term. It’s been an incredibly challenging time for everyone. However, from the moment I stepped into this role I have felt incredibly lucky to be leading such a kind, supportive, and positive year group. Your resilience and kindness make Year 8 so special and I am excited to continue this journey with you.
A massive 'well done' to everyone who was recognised in our recent celebration assembly! It was a joy to see so many of you being celebrated for your achievements. Whether it was for academic success, effort, kindness or determination, you should all be proud of yourselves.
This week, we had the pleasure of putting together the hundreds of Palentine's messages that you wrote for each other. It was heart-warming to see the sheer number of kind and thoughtful notes being shared. A big 'thank you' to our Senior Prefect Team for helping to organise everything so smoothly. A couple of highlights:
💌 "Thank you for always being there for me."
💌 "You make me smile."
💌 "You make me laugh and you care about me, that's why you're my bestie!"
It’s moments like these that remind us how important friendship, kindness, and community are, and I am so proud of the way you all support each other. As we head into the half term break, I hope you take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy a well-earned rest.

It has been another busy half term for Year 10, who continue to impress me week-on-week. I spoke to the students during our celebration assembly and explained how proud I am of them (a word that I seem to be using a lot when describing my year group, but it is genuine).
Each week I have members of staff stopping me to express how lovely their Year 10 class has been and telling me about the wonderful work that they are producing. This is down to the support that the students have both inside and outside of school so I wanted to say 'thank you'. Parenting is not easy. We get things right one day, wrong another day and (like with education) we are on a journey. I am most grateful for it being half term so that everyone can reset, rest and come back ready for more.
We have been very fortunate in being able to support Year 10 with the staff and facilities here at Rosebery, from our Hive team, Rosebery Respite and every member of staff who want the very best out of our students. Days such as our Wellbeing Day in January was the perfect opportunity within the Year 10 journey to provide strategies and support for the most recent assessments (as well as mocks later in the academic year). Due to the positive feedback, I am designing a wellbeing retreat for our Activities Week in July and will provide more information about this after half term.
It has been a joy to celebrate everyone's individual achievements this week, ending with our school production of Peter Pan. Congratulations and 'well done' again to everyone involved, on and off stage, it truly was an amazing performance (I am biased I know) and made me smile even more so seeing how many Year 10s were involved.
Wishing you all a very well-deserved rest during the half term holiday. Please ensure that pencil cases are topped up over the week and you have everything you need in preparation for any further assessments and for your lessons in general.
🏅 BRAVE AWARD 🏅
10CX: Darby B - for her dedication to the school production and for being a superstar.
10CY: Amber S and Tilly S - for their involvement in the school production.
10EX: Ana C - for her effort in lessons and assessments.
10EY: Lily-Mae W - for getting in contact confidently with work experience placements, and Aaliyah-Zaina R - for giving a hockey match her all, even with a key player down.
10MX: Zulkaif H - for reciting the Ijtema in front of 60 people and winning 3 medals for doing so.
10MY: Luisa H - for giving up her lunchtime to umpire the Year 7 House Netball event.
10PX: Amela P - for participating in a national cheer event and coming 1st.
10PY: Chloe T - for her amazing effort in Science this week .

This half term has been short, but for Year 11 it has felt like a whirlwind. They have been so busy with intervention, NEAs for practical subjects, PE moderation, the school play and much more besides, and we were delighted to celebrate all their achievements in celebration assembly this week. In fact, there were so many students who had reached their Head of Year merit certificates and Head of Upper School certificates, that we had to extend celebration across two form time mornings, just to fit them all in! It is a real testament to their hard work and community spirit.
When students return on Monday 24 February, they go straight into their Pre-Public Exams (PPEs). These will be the final set of mock exams before the summer, and we are keen to make them as representative as possible of the real thing.
We would greatly appreciate your support in ensuring that your child has a clear pencil case, pens, a ruler, protractor, compass and a working scientific calculator, as equipment cannot be loaned by the invigilation teams in the summer.
In addition, your support in encouraging students to be on time is much appreciated – the exams will start at the time specified on the timetable, so late arrival means students have less time than others with the added stress that lateness brings.
If your child is unable to attend, please contact the attendance line as usual, although please be aware that we have minimal opportunities for students to catch up their exams in this exam series – and we wish to avoid over-loading students with the number of catch-up sessions they need to do. In the summer, there are no catch-up sessions, so if you can encourage your child to attend, this is an important habit to build.
Students will be in uniform, and the usual uniform policy applies. Therefore, students should ensure that hair and nails are natural, and that jewellery is left at home. They should be wearing a blazer and school shoes – not trainers.
And finally, as we enjoyed such a wonderful performance of Peter Pan this week, we simply had to recognise the Year 11 students involved for our Rosebery Remarkable award: Iris A 11CX, in her star turn as Captain Hook; Georgia P 11CX as Hook’s sidekick, Smee; Regan P 11CX as Nibs; and Lois D 10EY as Tootles. This production has taken a lot of time and hard work for the whole cast and crew, and we are delighted that Year 11 are able to follow their passions as well as balancing their studies with mocks on the horizon – no mean feat. Congratulations, girls, we are so proud of you!

Last week we were excited to see some fantastic netball action from Years 7, 8 and 9 as they took part in the latest House Games. Each year group showcased their skills, determination and sportsmanship, filling the week with competitive spirit and teamwork. Thankfully, the weather held out and all students were able to make their way to the courts to take part!
Year 9
The House Games Netball competition kicked off on Monday, with Year 9 taking to the courts first. The matches were fast-paced, intense, and full of brilliant plays. Year 9 players demonstrated excellent tactical awareness and teamwork, showing off their developing netball skills. With strong defensive strategies and impressive shooting accuracy, it was a exciting start to the week and Year 9 set a high standard for the other year groups to follow!
Year 8
The competition continued on Tuesday with Year 8, and the level of play was just as impressive. Year 8 brought their A game, showing fantastic teamwork and communication on the court. The players worked well in both attack and defence positions, with some brilliant passing and interceptions throughout. The games were competitive (with close scores between our top teams) meaning that the results could not be tighter. Year 8 really demonstrated how much they’ve progressed with their netball skills, making their matches a joy to watch.
Year 7
The competition wrapped up on Wednesday with the Year 7s, who showed great enthusiasm and determination, despite for some of them it being the first time they had played netball competitively. The Year 7s displayed strong team spirit and commitment, and it was clear that they’re already learning the fundamentals of the game. There were some great passes, interceptions, and efforts at goal, and the improvement from each team was noticeable throughout the afternoon.
Overall
A huge congratulations to all participants for their hard work, sportsmanship, and team spirit throughout the House Games Netball competition. Each year group brought their own unique energy to the court and it was fantastic to see so many students getting involved. The level of play was impressive across all year groups. A huge 'thank you' goes to Mrs Hart-Mckee and Miss Elms for their support in organising students and scoring, but an even bigger thank you must go to Mrs Jones and Mrs Waple, who both gave up their time to come and support students in umpiring, despite the cold! Additional thanks goes to our Sixth Form students, who also used time to support younger students in enabling the games to run smoothly!

The Year 7 team triumphed with an 11-1 victory against Three Rivers School, demonstrating strong teamwork and dedication to their training. The supportive environment was felt not only on the court but also from the sidelines where we had our subs cheering the team on.
The players rotated positions fairly, with several players trying unfamiliar roles thus showing their versatility. Captain, Ellie M 7PY, led by example with excellent shooting, while Molly M 7CX's strong defence was crucial in keeping the opposition at bay. Special mention goes to Dulcie S 7PY, who was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance against the opposing team. In the pre-match warm-up, the team showed great unity, working together on passing, shooting, and overall strategy to prepare for the game. Mr Harvey was so impressed wth your resilience and effort to keep up with the Year 8s in your 'mini match' to keep warm. Thank you for coming along Mr Harvey!
Year 8 also secured a 13-6 win against Three Rivers School, showcasing both technical skill and strong team spirit. Phoebe B 8CY's excellent shooting techniques played a key role in the team's success, while Carys T 8CY provided solid defence throughout the match. Emilia F 8CY’s excellent movement on the court allowed her to create space and support her teammates effectively. The team’s communication and unity were evident, especially during their pre-match warm-up, in which they focused on refining their defence and shooting skills. These efforts helped them to maintain control. Mr Harvey was so impressed with your support for Year 7 in the 'mini matches', but also your humour and support for each other!
Both teams' hard work in training is clearly paying off. The teams have worked hard to refine the skills taught to them. 'Well done' to all players and to those who come to training - we will see you after half term.
