Our new Senior Prefect Team has led assemblies throughout this week, and I was delighted to attend and to listen to their engaging and enthusiastic presentations. In a lovely handover, our outgoing Head Girls, Lexie D 13H and Jessica L 13H, celebrated the highlights of their year including Culture Day, the fortnightly Wellbeing Café, the impact of the daily site litter picks and, of course, the fabulous RAG Week which raised over £10,000 earlier this year! They reminded the students that their last initiative is to oversee the collection for the Epsom Pantry, which will make such a difference to families in our local community - we are so grateful for your support with this, and you can find the list of items we are collecting below:
Our new Head Girls, Lilly C 12A and Jasmine F 12H, introduced themselves and their team. which comprises our Centenary Deputy Head Girl, Jasmine-Lily R 12C, our Deputy Head Girls/House Leaders: Nisheli K 12H (Elizabeth), Rose P 12F (Malala), Olivia T 12B (Curie) , Mubeen B 12A (Pankhurst) and our Deputy Head Girls who will lead our Junior Leadership Team Committees: Isabelle T 12F (Wellbeing), Louisa P 12C (Community), Lucy A 12B (Environment) and Beatrice O 12H (Learning). In the assembly, they compellingly outlined their collective vision to provide hope, support, guidance and opportunity for as many students as possible, and they encouraged students in every year group to get involved in a Junior Leadership Committee, in the planning for the Rosebery Centenary, or to become a House Captain. These exciting opportunities are for everyone – the committees and house teams need students who are creative, who are passionate about issues such as mental health, climate change, volunteering and diversity, or who simply care about their community and want to make it even better. Miss Canessa will be sending out a Google form shortly, and I hope many students will take the brave step of putting themselves forward for one of these roles.
Christmas arrived at Rosebery this week, with the Main Hall now covered in twinkly lights, Year 7 enjoying a trip to the panto at the Rose Theatre, and the Sixth Form heading to Christmas markets in Bruges and Lilles, as you read this! I am also extremely grateful to the PSA for their annual Christmas tree sale which is a critical fundraiser for us. Our musicians are working very hard to rehearse for our annual Rosebery Christmas Concert on Monday 16 December, and I hope we will see as many Christmas jumpers as possible on Friday 13 December, so we can raise as much money as possible for Save the Children.
Despite these festivities, Years 11, 12 and 13 continue to work very hard on vocational and practical mock exams and NEA completion, and we look forward to welcoming Year 11 parents and carers to the school on Thursday for feedback on your daughter’s progress and next steps.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone.

As part of her efforts to help children who are facing hair loss due to illness, Alexis K-N 8CY recently cut her hair and donated it to the Little Princess Trust, an organization that provides wigs to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. In addition, she has launched a fundraising page to raise money for this wonderful charity, with the goal of supporting even more children in need.
We are hoping to generate as many donations as possible to support the Little Princess Trust’s vital work. Alexis is particularly motivated by the fact that one of her friends has had cancer treatment and is wearing a wig. She is hopeful that her actions may help raise awareness and inspire others to contribute to this cause.
If you are able to, making a donation is very simple and secure through her JustGiving page. The donations will go directly to the Little Princess Trust, and Gift Aid will automatically be reclaimed if you are a UK taxpayer, making every contribution even more valuable.
Please click HERE for the link to Alexis’s JustGiving page.
On Monday, I had the pleasure of accompanying the Senior Prefect Team to drop off all your kind and generous donations to the Children's Ward at Epsom Hospital! The staff and nurses were blown away by all of your donations and were so grateful. It will allow them to make Christmas a little more magical for the children staying in over the holidays!
The SPT, of course, wanted to find out how we can continue to support the staff on the Children's ward throughout the year. The staff have shared their Amazon Wishlist with us so that those in the Rosebery Community can continue to donate and support them if they are able to. The SPT are also busy planning our next donation drive for Easter next year!
I am privileged to be working with such selfless and kind young people who want to make a difference in the local community, and we continue to be so grateful for your support with their ideas, both with the Epsom Pantry Donation drive (which continues into next week) and our work with the hospital! Monetry donations are available via ParentPay.

What a wonderful and eventful week Year 7 have had at Rosebery. Year 7 are now being invited to apply for roles within the Junior Leadership Team (JLT) and a Google form will be sent out by Miss Canessa to include instructions on how to apply.
The festive season came alive as students attended the Rose Theatre to watch Robin Hood and The Christmas Heist, a magnificent play filled with humour, adventure, and festive cheer that truly got everyone into the Christmas spirit. Despite being one the last weeks of term, our Year 8 students have continued to seize new opportunities and support their wider community. On Tuesday we had an exciting assembly, led by our new (and very inspiring) Senior Prefect Team. They spoke about their future plans for this coming year and urged our Year 8s to apply for roles on the Junior Leadership Team. This is a great opportunity for our Year 8s as they will be helping to improve and develop our school community. We look forward to seeing lots of applications.
In our 'Kindness' project this week our students nominated people in our school community that they would like to thank for their support and help this year. It was very heartwarming to see thank you notes being written out to teachers, canteen staff and support staff. As our students finish completing their kindness challenge cards, it has been very rewarding to see our students go above and beyond in supporting each other and endorsing kindness.
Apart from their kindness projects, our Year 8 champions have been showing their athletic skills on the indoor athletics stage. A massive ‘well done’ to Caitlyn K 8CX, Izzy C 8MY, Machaela L 8EX, and Francesca A 8EY for an outstanding performance in their individual events! We would like to also congratulate our incredible team who powered through to win the obstacle relay race; what a fantastic effort by everyone involved!
Looking ahead, next week holds some very lovely opportunities for Year 8. Some of our students will be diving into rehearsals for our Christmas Concert, which is shaping up to be a spectacular event. Plus, we’ll have House assemblies and the very competitive House football matches to look forward to too.
We hope you have a very restful weekend.

The festive season is finally upon us, and the buzz is palpable as always in Year 9. the decorations are going up on the school site, and so is the excitement for what is always one of my favourite parts of the school year.
This week, it has also been a pleasure to welcome both the outgoing and incoming Senior Prefect Teams into assembly this week for this year's launch of the JLT and form captains. This is such a vital role in the shaping and running of our school community, and I’m so pleased that so many Year 9s have not only expressed their interest in applying for one of the JLT roles, but also have some phenomenal ideas about ways they can positively influence their school. Without a shadow of a doubt there are some wonderful future leaders in this year group.
Next week, I’m looking forward to many things! Firstly, we have our next round of House Games with house football taking place on Wednesday. We have some of 9CX going to visit a local care home to spread some Christmas cheer. However, my favourite event of next week is our celebration assembly, which we are holding a week early this half term.
Finally, I must give my congratulations to Jaime-Leigh P 9PX this week. On the 23 November, Jaime-Leigh competed in in a Street Dance Championship Competition with her team, Y@P. This involved battling it out with 8 other dance schools to see who the winners would be. I’m delighted to say that Jaime-Leigh's team won the competition and, having seen footage of the routine, I was in awe of the skill, preparation and unity that was on show for the team. Congratulations on your success, it is a joy to see you being continually triumphant in your passions, both in team and single disciplines!
Have a lovely weekend.

They have been invited to apply for a role within the JLT that will work on planning Rosebery's upcoming Centenary Celebrations.
The role involves supporting our Centenary Deputy Head Girl in planning for the celebration, as well as our annual Rosebery Day. The deadline for students to apply by is Thursday 19 December. Details have been emailed to Year 10 students.
Next week, we have our House assemblies as well as our Epsom Pantry collections taking place. To end the week, students are invited to wear a Christmas Jumper on Friday 13 December, in addition to their school uniform.

Year 11 have returned to lessons this week after their mocks, and we appreciate that this can feel like a real slog, with the slow countdown to the end of term and with the dreary weather. We spoke to Year 11 in a special assembly on Tuesday, to remind them of the remarkable achievement they have earned by completing their first round of mocks with such determination and resilience. They also demonstrated a real spirit of 'belonging' by lifting each other up and motivating each other throughout, and for this we are very proud of them.
We then spoke to them about the importance of getting straight back into focused learning, which we know can feel like an uphill struggle! However, we stressed the importance of taking on teachers' feedback in their lessons this week, learning from the many students who have been in their place before, and from the teachers who are best placed to recommend approaches that have been shown to improve students' results. We urge Year 11 to take on board this feedback actively: while the final GCSEs are not until the summer, the next round of mocks will be just after February half term, and a concerted effort at this stage can make a huge difference.
With this in mind, you have hopefully received information regarding Thursday's Parents' Evening, which will take place on site. This is a chance for you and your child to sit together and hear feedback from teachers, who will be providing tangible steps for consolidation and for further improvement. It is also a good opportunity for teachers, parents and students to all be on the same page when it comes to revision and future learning, and your ability to support your child in this is invaluable. Please consider taking a moment over the weekend to digest the feedback and help your child make a plan for how they can put this into action. Of course, some will have already drawn up a full schedule, but we know that there are others who will need that extra nudge. It doesn't feel much fun now, but it will all be worth it in the end to see smiling faces on Results Day and to unlock those doors to future study!
Each week we like to recognise students who have been Remarkable and made the school very proud. This week's Rosebery Remarkable student is Iris A 11CX, who supported the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey as a cadet when the Duchess of Edinburgh visited the local community for a Christmas service. This is alongside a track record of involvement in all aspects of school life, so we are very proud of Iris for fitting it all in!

A couple of weeks ago Tila F 10CY competed in the British Classic Challenge Championships, representing the South East region after qualifying by coming in the top 6 at the Regional Championships a few months ago.
The South East team were amazing, and Tila helped the team to place 2nd out of 13 teams from across the country. This is Tila’s first ever British medal, which was a massive achievement and one she has worked so hard for, having just missed out a number of times.
At just 14 years of age, Tila was at the youngest age possible to compete at this level. She managed to do well individually, coming 4th on bars, 9th on beam and 12th overall out of 65 girls from around the UK.

Our Year 13 prospective medical students were fortunate enough to experience a mock MMI interview to assist them in their applications. The resilience demonstrated by all six students and their ability to change focus to provide meaningful responses to six different interviewers, one after the other, certainly instilled a greater confidence for future interviews!
The students were both insightful and thoughtful. Without exception, all expressed their gratitude for the opportunity. Many thanks to the Chemistry department for organising this invaluable opportunity.

See you at the Carol Concert!
Mr Holloway - Head of Music
A big well done to those in Year 8 that took part in the Indoor Athletics Competition hosted by Esher Church of England School on Monday.
The competition had a variety of events, including obstacle relay races, shotput and standing triple jump. Each team member gave their all in their events, with a special shoutout to Caitlyn K 8CX, Izzy C 8MY, Machaela L 8EX and Francesca A 8EY, who won their individual events and, together, won the team obstacle relay race. The individual successes contributed to the overall team success, as Rosebery were crowned the winners of the competition - great work!
It was lovely to see the girls be relentless with their praise and encouragement throughout, spurring the girls on to the very end. We are so proud of your remarkable work and we look forward to the next competition!
Miss Linehan - PE Teacher
The Year 11 Netball Team played their last league game of the season on Monday night, and what a game to finish on! After a tough day of GCSE PE moderation for the majority of the team, we travelled to Three Rivers Academy (TRA). It was clear to see from their warm up that TRA were a good team and that this was going to be a great game to watch. The girls didn't disappoint and, after the first quarter, there was only one goal in it (6-5 to TRA). We decided to keep the formation the same and let the girls settle in, which they did so in the second quarter. Rosebery kept possession more tightly and defence were great at picking off the balls into the D. By the end of the first half, Rosebery were now in the lead by 1 goal with a score of 11-10. We made a few changes in the third quarter, which made quite the impact. A switch-in attack left their defence very open and our girls took full advantage.
There was some beautiful play down the court and into the D. Freya B 11PX and Carrie L 11EX were excellent at making these shots count. By the end of the third quarter, Rosebery had taken an impressive lead with 21-12. We steadied ourselves back into the final quarter, with Eilidh M 11CX and Abi W 11EX making some excellent interceptions in defence, meaning that the final score was 27-18. Well done girls for a fantastic last game, and in particular to Eilidh M, who received Player of the Match.
This result also means that Rosebery have finished top of the league and will go through to the Surrey Sports Park finals next year. A huge congratulations to the whole squad, this has been very well deserved!
Miss Hart-McKee - PE Teacher
After the success of last years squash team in the National Finals, it was only right to enter the competition again this year. So in stepped our KS3 team trying to replicate what the KS4 team achieved before them. The girls travelled to Epsom College to face the first round of the National Finals, where we were placed in a pool with Epsom College, Beneden and Sevenoaks. After a quick warm up and a last-minute coaching session from our fantastic Year 12 students Maja L 12B and Jessie P 12E, our girls were ready to face Sevenoaks.
Each student has to play three games against their equally-ranked opponent, before the scores are all added together to determine the winner. Considering the experience level amongst the girls was so varied, they handled the competition brilliantly. In our first games, we won 10 out of 15 against Sevenoaks, which was a great start to the afternoon. Next up, we faced Epsom College, who won the competition last year so we knew they would be good! However, our girls were better! India S 8CX, Cali B 9CX and Hazel P 9EX had some phenomenal games, with Hazel even getting a bagel! All five girls won their set of three games - to beat all of the Epsom College team is definitely something to be very proud of! Our last games were against Beneden and, again, we knew they were a strong team after last year. They put our girls under some great pressure, with all rankings being tactically and skillfully very strong. India and Cali once again beat their opponents, but unfortunately we were beaten in the other games. These fantastic results place Rosebery second in the group, meaning we qualify for the next round of the championship. This is a huge success considering we don't have any school squash courts!
Well done girls for a fantastic team effort and bring on round two!
