This week has encapsulated everything that makes Rosebery such a special place. On Monday, it was a privilege to attend the Christmas Concert in which girls from every year group performed a beautiful and joyful programme of music and readings. Sincere thanks to Mr Holloway and Mrs Dever for curating such a wonderful event. The canteen has been filled with word-perfect renditions of Christmas classics, party hats and terrible cracker jokes, as students have enjoyed their delicious Christmas lunch. And yesterday evening we concluded the term by welcoming back our Class of 2024 at both GCSE and A Level to celebrate their stunning achievements in their exams last summer, and to mark the significant contribution that these students have made to our community. It was a pleasure to welcome back Louise Bailey, an alumna, who now holds a senior position with the Met Office, and who gave us a fascinating and inspiring insight into her work. Finally, it has been terrific to receive pictures from the ski slopes from our group in Les Deux Alpes, who are having a great week; sincere thanks to Miss Croft and her team who have made this trip happen.
This is the longest term of the year, and I know that staff and students are more than ready for the Christmas break. A reminder that Monday 6 January is an INSET day and therefore students will return to Rosebery at 8.30am on Tuesday 7 January. Please note that this is a Week 2.
Sadly, I will not be returning with the students in January, so I would like to take this final opportunity to thank my colleagues, the PSA and our governors for their fantastic work not only this term, but for making such a difference over so many years of our working together. I am incredibly grateful to parents for your continued support for and engagement in everything we do at Rosebery and finally, and most importantly I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with such fabulous, caring, thoughtful and articulate students who make Rosebery the wonderful school that it is.
Have a very Happy Christmas and my very best wishes to you all for the future.

As we come to the end of a busy and festive week, it's a wonderful time to reflect on the highlights of Year 7's activities. On Monday morning, we had our Year 7 Celebration Assembly, where many of our Year 7 students were recognised for their outstanding achievements. We celebrated students for having 100% attendance, being awarded Star of the Week, earning zero demerits, accumulating a large number of merits, excelling as Reading Champions and demonstrating key values such as having courage and being kind. There were many more awards too, each reflecting the dedication, hard work, and positive attitudes shown by our students throughout the term. It has truly been a pleasure to see Year 7 students achieve such great things and we are so proud of all their accomplishments.
On Monday evening, I had the privilege of attending the school Christmas Carol Concert, which showcased the incredible musical talent of our students across all year groups. It was truly a joy to watch and sing along with the students. A special congratulations goes to Carys P 7MY, who opened the evening with the first reading, 'Innkeeper'. The Year 7 'Young Voices' choir did an outstanding job, performing both 'Underneath the Tree' and 'Merry Christmas Everyone' with energy, enthusiasm and even a bit of dancing! Well done to everyone involved – your performances were a festive treat! Thank you to Mr Holloway and all the students for your hard work to put on this incredible concert.
On Tuesday, Year 7 enjoyed their Christmas lunch, which was a lovely opportunity to come together as a year group and celebrate the season. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was full of joy and festive cheer. It was heartwarming to see students chatting and enjoying their time with friends, making memories before the holiday break.
As we approach the holiday season, I encourage all Year 7 students to take a well-deserved break from their screens and immerse themselves in the joy of spending time with family and friends. The holidays are the perfect time to disconnect from digital distractions and embrace the present moment. Encourage your daughters to put down their devices, enjoy the simple pleasures of the season, including getting some fresh air, spending time outdoors and enjoying nature. Let’s encourage Year 7 students to spread positivity and compassion wherever they go this Christmas, ensuring that they return to school in January with renewed energy, a refreshed mindset and an eagerness to take on the exciting challenges and opportunities of the year ahead.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year all!

As we wrap up another successful half term, we are excited to share some wonderful highlights from this week that truly embody the spirit of our school community. The standout event of the week was (without a doubt) our beautiful Christmas Concert. The air was filled with joy and excitement as our talented singers and musicians took to the stage. The dedication and hard work put in by each performer was evident in their remarkable performances. A massive congratulations to all the students who participated; your passion and skill lit up the evening!
On Tuesday, we held our celebration assembly, a joyful occasion where we recognised the outstanding achievements of our students. I am always amazed by the variety of accomplishments we celebrate, and this week was no different. A huge shout-out to Lily S 8CX for her remarkable performance in the UK Bebras challenge, achieving the highest results in the school! Lily's dedication and talent truly shone, and we couldn't be prouder. We also honoured our top Sparx performers, as well as those who earned the highest merits and those who had outstanding attendance. It's uplifting to see students striving for excellence and being recognised for their efforts.
This term, we have made a concerted effort to promote kindness within our school community, and I am thrilled to spotlight our Kindness Champions. These incredible students have gone above and beyond in their efforts to spread joy and compassion. A special mention goes to Caitlyn K 8CX for her tireless work in cultivating a spirit of kindness throughout our community. Your commitment to making a difference is truly inspiring! We also wish to celebrate Skylar C 8MY for her charity work outside of school with an organisation called ‘Wrap Up London.’ It’s heartwarming to hear stories of students engaging with their community and making a positive impact beyond our school walls. Such initiatives showcase the values of empathy and generosity that we hold dear. We also congratulate two keen gymnasts in our year group . This weekend, they flew to Germany with their Star-Tastic Academy squad and competed in the Gymfinity International invitational. Their squad did amazingly, coming away with three silver team cups, and the girls were phenomenal individually. Zara C 8MX achieved a bronze on vault, bronze on bars and silver on floor in her division. Grace B 8MX won gold on vault, bronze on bars and silver all round in her divisions. We are very proud of your achievements - this was lovely news to hear.
As we approach the holiday season, we want to extend our heartfelt wishes to you and your families. May this time be filled with rest, joy, and cherished moments together. Have a lovely holiday break!

Well done Year 9 for another excellent week to end what has been a hugely successful term. Over 21% of Year 9s have achieved over 100 merits, and over 40% have achieved over 75 merits, which is excellent! This success has meant we have been the year group with the most merits throughout the term, and we are so proud of this. 57 students have 100% attendance, and 165 students have attendance of 96%, which is fantastic, especially after such a long term. The coaching sessions with the Sixth Form students have been very successful, with many students participating. These sessions will continue next term and are well worth signing up to.
Thank you to all the students who participated in the Christmas Carol Concert - which was beautifully delivered and highlighted all the talented students we have in our year group. Students enjoyed their Christmas dinner at lunchtime yesterday and are now in the festive mood, ready for their two-week break. Well done to all those who have continued with rehearsals for Peter Pan. We can’t wait to see it!
There are lots of exciting things coming up next year for Year 9. We have the Girls On Board sessions, Graduation into Upper School, Options Refinement, coaching and lots more. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you in 2025!
Mr Pingree - Head of Year 9
Ms Cooke - Deputy Head of Year 9
It has been a joyful week for Year 10 as we celebrated our ‘Remarkable and Proud’ students with a crafting afternoon on Tuesday. They spent the time making wax-decorated baubles, wooden bead snowflakes and more. This was just a small token to say 'thank you' to some of our students.
Festive celebrations continued with our Christmas lunch in the canteen on Wednesday, where it proved that you are never too old to wear a Christmas hat from the cracker! Then we concluded the term with our celebration assembly on Thursday morning. 54 students still have 100% attendance, 65 students have 0 demerits and, within that, 21 of the students have 100% attendance and 0 demerits. With thanks to ePraise, students are being rewarded with more points, which meant we have 48 students with over 200 merits, which is a huge achievement!
Next term, we will be starting the year with the relaunch of our Brave Award as a way that students can be recognised for taking risks. Each form tutor will have ownership of this, meaning that these achievements can be celebrated in a smaller environment.
A reminder that in January 2025, we will be launching Year 10 Work Experience week from Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July 2025. We will be using an online platform called ‘Unifrog’, which students will be sent a login for via their school emails. Please remind students not to delete this information, as they will need it for their PDC lessons.
Finally, thank you for all your support this term. I continue to be proud of every student in the year and wish you all a wonderful Christmas holiday with your loved ones. See you in 2025!
YEAR 10 ROUND UP
This term has been an exciting and dynamic journey for Year 10 students, full of both learning and creative experiences. In English, we dove into "A Christmas Carol", exploring its themes of isolation, poverty, and social responsibility. The assessment on these topics allowed us to critically analyse Dickens’ message and its relevance to both historical and modern society.
In Music GCSE, we have been hard at work preparing for the Year 10 Concert and Christmas concert. Rehearsing for these events boosted our musical skills, performance confidence, and teamwork. The experience has been both rewarding and fun, bringing a sense of accomplishment and festive cheer.
Outside of academics, we got to enjoy some creativity in tutor time, making snowflakes, beaded candy canes, and taking part in a craft afternoon. The melting crayon baubles, wooden bead snowflakes, and card decorating allowed us to unwind, express their creativity, and bond with friends which helped us to get into the holiday spirit.
In Geography, we explored the development of Nigeria, examining the cultural differences between NEEs (Newly Emerging Economies) and HICs (High-Income Countries). we gained valuable insights into how these differences impact people’s lives, particularly in terms of healthcare, education, and infrastructure. This helped us to better understand global development issues and the challenges faced by countries like Nigeria.
In GCSE Business, we learned about the connection between legislation and consumer rights. we studied how laws like the Consumer Rights Act 2015 protect consumers and ensure businesses operate fairly. This knowledge is essential for understanding the broader role of government in regulating businesses and protecting consumer interests.
The term has been filled with a lot to learn, but we are excited for what lies ahead. Looking forward, we are eager for upcoming events like the launch of Work Experience, the Self-Care Day, and the BRAVE award. These opportunities will provide us with a chance to further develop personal skills, enhance our well-being, and celebrate achievements as they continue their journey through Year 10.

What a whirlwind this past term has been! In Wednesday's celebration assembly, we took some time to reflect on everything Year 11 have achieved so far. Of course, there have been some significant academic milestones, such as mocks, reports and parents' evening; but we are so pleased that Year 11 have also had time to audition for the school production, win District Netball tournaments, assist the lower school with Robotics and Chemistry challenges, travel to Italy and much more!
As a year group, they have also managed to earn over 24, 000 merits - a real testament to their work ethic and progress. We have therefore been delighted this term to award 132 Tutor merit certificates (50 merits), 33 Head of Year certificates (100 merits), 22 Head of Upper School certificates (150 merits) and 3 Deputy Headteacher certificates (200 merits). We have also recognised 20 students as being the students that make us exceptionally remarkable and proud by earning our 'Rosebery Remarkable' award each week, and we have invited 50 students so far for our 'Thank You Thursday' breakfasts. These have been a particular highlight, as it is so wonderful to spend time with our students who always do the right thing, and who are hard workers, excellent friends and resilient revisers, to boot. We can't wait to celebrate some more of our fantastic Year 11s next half term.
Speaking of our remarkable and proud students, we were so pleased to see so many Year 11s represented in the Christmas concert this week, which included our GCSE music students, but also some brilliant individual performances from this week's Rosebery Remarkable students: Regan P 11CX, Eloise B-G 11CX, Jocelyn B 11MY, Rhea T 11MY Sophie B 11PX, Elena D 11PY and Rosie R 11PY.
Finally, thank you in advance for ensuring that uniform is correct when we return, and that jewellery and trainers are left at home; thank you also for ensuring that hair, nails and make up are all natural.
We hope that Year 11 have a very well-deserved break; see you in 2025!

Congratulations to Zara C 8PX, Grace B 8MX, and Evie C 9MY. Last weekend, they flew to Germany with their Star-Tastic Academy squad and competed in the Gymfinitity International invitational. Their squad did amazingly, coming away with three silver team cups and the girls were phenomenal individually too.
Zara (AB Minor) - bronze on vault, bronze on bars, silver on floor
Grace (A Cadet) - gold on vault, bronze on bars, silver all round
Evie - (A Cadet) - silver on bars, gold on floor
Congratulations to the 129 fantastic musicians who performed to a sold-out audience for our Carol Concert on Monday evening! Months of planning, a few sleepless nights (but luckily no hair loss in Mr Holloway’s case) all led to a lovely evening that featured our Concert Band, Rosebery Singers, the new Rosebery String Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Young Voices, both Year 9 Music classes, the Year 10 and 11 GCSE Music classes, the Rosebery Choir (made up of staff & senior students), three fantastic soloists as well as a selection of carols and Christmas readings.
I am incredibly proud of every student who performed and would like to say a very big thank you for all the time that you have spent rehearsing and giving up your break and lunchtimes. We are so fortunate to have so much musical talent here at Rosebery, but this is underpinned by an awful lot of hard work and commitment, something that is not seen in a performance or concert. The picture at the end of the concert of the audience being surrounded by students singing and playing while (importantly) having a great time, will live long in the memory. Joy and ambition demonstrated so visibly, as well as girls becoming part of our growing musical community.
There are many people to thank, as big concerts like this don’t happen by accident. We'd like to thank; Mrs Garner for all of her admin support, as well as Mrs Macleod and Mrs Dodson-Whitehead, Mr Brew for his help with the programmes, Mrs Dever for giving up so much time for the readings and becoming our sound technician, Mrs House-Lee and Miss Lovett for their work backstage, the lovely staff for giving up their time to sing in the Rosebery Choir, the premises team for all of their help in setting up the hall, Mrs Mariner for overseeing the whole process, Mrs Stuart for the admin support, SLT support on the evening, Mr Harvey and the PSA for the refreshments and Mr Waight for taking all of the fantastic photos.
May I wish you all a very happy, restful and hopefully musical Christmas holiday.
Mr Holloway - Head of Music
It is my pleasure to share with you the Spring term Enrichment calendar for all year groups at Rosebery. These activities can be found on the ePraise app which was launched in the Autumn term. On the app, your child can navigate their way through merits, demerits and also sign up for the enrichment activities that run either weekly, fortnightly or as a one-off event. Students will be awarded a merit each time they attend an activity and, in turn, this can be used in our reward shop every Friday.
