For me, there is nothing better than a 'Great British Summer', so I am delighted that the sun has got his hat on, and has finally come out to play! The Rosebery quad had been resplendent in sunshine, and this has been much needed with the start of exam leave for our Year 11 GCSE students; it’s been great to see them studying and putting the finish touches to their revision, as they sat RS and Drama paper on Thursday, and then were all in for the first GCSE Biology paper this morning, which is followed by Sociology this afternoon.
We also wish our Year 13 A Level students well, as they completed their final day of timetabled lessons today, before they begin their exam leave next week – it’s been an emotional day for many of them as the realisation that their 7 year journey at Rosebery is now almost at an end.
For both cohorts, we wish them incredibly well throughout this period of public examinations and look forward to celebrating with them at their respective Proms in June, and then on their results days in August.
Year 10 are now our oldest girls in kilts, and they had a special revision carousel delivered to them on Thursday as we support them in their preparation for their end of year mocks, and future examinations. The teachers involved couldn’t have been more complimentary about the positive and mature attitude of this cohort, which bodes well moving forward. I am also grateful to Year 10 parents and carers for engaging with teachers at next week's Parents Evening, which is on site at Rosebery, on Thursday.
70 of our Year 10 cohort are also due to complete their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Practice Expedition at the start of next week, so we wish them well – this is a record cohort for Silver, and I hope many will look to go on and complete Gold DofE when in Year 12 at Rosebery Sixth Form.
As it happens, 4 of our former students (Class of 2020) were in contact with us today, live from Buckingham Palace where they were “hanging out with the Royals in the sunshine” having been cordially invited to the palace to celebrate their Gold DofE awards. Congratulations to Lucia C, Asia C, Mia S, and Alia M (below) – gone but not forgotten, as is true of all our Alumni.
We then have 30 students from across Years 8, 9 and 10 taking part at the U15 and U17 District Athletics Tournament at Kingsmeadow next Thursday – good luck ladies.
As we all enjoy the warmer weather and sunshine, I am grateful to parents and carers for ensuring that uniform standards do not slip. Students should not be in trainers, as Ms Allen referenced last week, and uniform expectations have been made clear in form time and assemblies this week. As a reminder, it is the blazer that is the compulsory element of uniform (not the jumper), so all students are expected to attend school, and arrive to each lesson with their blazer on – it may of course be removed at break and lunchtime which is recreational time for the girls. We will make it clear later in the year, and only if the temperature significantly increases, as to whether a period of shirt sleeve order is necessary.
Finally, please make sure you have noted that the school will close early on Wednesday next week for Rosebery Collaborates, with students being dismissed at 1pm. Therefore, there will only be a break time canteen service on 15 May, and no lunch service.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.

It was wonderful to see Year 7s in such high spirits after a long weekend, especially seeing so many students attend extra-curricular clubs. We hope to see the attendance at clubs continue to grow, especially in this lovely and long-awaited sunshine. So many of our 'Seize the Day' club cards have been completed and handed in but there are so many prizes up for grabs. We will be doing a prize draw at the end of this half term, so there's just one week left to get the cards completed and handed in to the Year 7 Office!
While we welcome the warmer weather, we encourage Year 7 to continue wearing their Rosebery uniform with pride. Therefore, we are grateful for your support in ensuring that your child is wearing the correct school shoes each day and continues to bring their blazer into school.
Miss Canessa and Miss Linehan thoroughly enjoyed visiting lessons this week, where we saw students creating a page centred around Ukiyo-e art; writing a monologue from a character’s perspective from a range of Shakespeare’s plays in English; and creating an investigation in Science where they were looking at how the size of a jelly cube would affect the time taken to dissolve.
We look forward to the first of our Mindful May session next week during form time, as well as our assembly focused on Wellbeing Week.

As I write, the sun is shining, the weather is warm, and it feels as though we’ve truly reached the Summer term now. We’ve got lots coming up in the next few weeks, like the Battlefields trip led by the History department and House Rounders, which promises to be one of the highlights of the year for students, and I’m excited to see Year 8 throw themselves in to each of these experiences with vigour!
This week, Year 8 have been hard at work on their study skills in form time, as well as having the Maths assembly this week and a reminder of the expectations surrounding uniform also. Please could you ensure that your daughter has all the correct elements of their uniform and that any additions (such as jewellery) are kept at home.
You will have also received communication this week about the ‘You Are Awesome’ books that your daughter will have used last year as part of their Year 7 journey. As increased costs have made purchasing these for the new Year 7 cohort challenging, we would be incredibly grateful for any donations of old copies that are no longer used, or wanted. If you would like to donate, you can drop the book off at Reception or your daughter can bring this in and give it to myself or Mr Harvey.
Finally, I’d like to celebrate our first students to complete the Silver AIM Award. Evelyn W and Evie D 8CX have done a fantastic job at proving their ambition, integrity and their motivation (in record time) and you can both be so proud of the contributions you make to the Rosebery community every day. I’m excited to see you progress and complete the Gold Award soon!
Have a lovely weekend.

8EY: Katie B - for her excellent contributions to a variety of form time activities over the last few weeks.

8PX: Eleanor J – for being super organised and punctual this term, for completing all homework on time, and for always entering the room with a smile!

Miss Morris - Deputy Head of Year 8
With Year 11 students now on study leave and having started their examinations, Year 9 students are rapidly approaching Upper School at Rosebery. With this in mind, our assembly this week was on the topic of being positive role models and wearing their Rosebery uniforms with pride. We thank you at home in advance for your support by ensuring school shoes are correct, jewellery is kept safe at home, make up is minimal and your child's uniform is correct.
As part of Maths week, the Maths prefects shared some information about women in maths and how they encountered many challenges in every area of expertise, but due to their perseverance they got through it and have now served as inspiration for the next generation. Because of their gender and love of mathematics, most female mathematicians experienced discrimination and suffering. However, they overcame these obstacles and are, today, acknowledged as some of the great female mathematicians in the world. It was also a joy to see Year 9 engaging with angles in their Maths lessons this week.
You will have also received communication this week about the ‘You Are Awesome’ books that your child used as part of their Year 7 journey. As increased costs have made purchasing these for the new Year 7 cohort challenging, we would be incredibly grateful for any donations of old copies that are no longer used or wanted. Books can be handed in directly to the Year 9 Office.
We wish you all a lovely, sunny weekend – what a difference the sunshine makes.

Miss Fielding - Deputy Head of Year 9
It has been a real pleasure to walk around lessons taking place as part of Year 10’s ‘Ready for Mocks’ day this week. We have been so impressed by the way in which Year 10 have taken this day seriously and got involved, recognising that the strategies on display here will help them do well in mocks and beyond.
By giving students some concrete strategies, we hope to empower them to actively revise (not re-reading their textbooks, watching ‘Revision TikTok’ or highlighting everything they have written in the past year). We also hope that having some ideas of what to do will address the temptation to "see how these mocks go, if I don’t revise" (!). Rest assured, that’s not a technique that tends to go well, so we hope now that they will be using their Cornell notes, flashcards, mind maps and practice questions across all subjects. Students have also benefitted from bespoke sessions on English, Maths and Science.
We hope that students will come home and share what they have taken away from the day. While there was a lot of information delivered in just 30 minutes, the students have risen to the challenge admirably and have engaged in all sessions on offer.
In a change to the planned timetable, we chose to make parents' evening an in-person event, where any information that students will be given about revision during Thursday’s drop-down day could be shared with you directly. This was to avoid duplication of information, but also the need for you to arrange to sit down and watch a virtual event and then attend a parents' evening.

10CY: Daisy S - for always being a pleasure to have in form time and achieving her 75-merit certificate!

10EY: Yashita S – for being proactive in revising for upcoming assessments.

10MY: Cassandra L - for her independent hard work preparing for her speaking exam last week; and Isabella G - in recognition of her cheer activities which included a recent trip with her team to compete in the USA.
10PX: Karla C – for always being polite, kind and friendly and committed to her learning in lessons.
10PY: Victoria D R – for reaching 100 merits!
Ms Newman - Head of Year 10
Mr Hewett - Deputy Head of Year 10
And just like that, Year 11 have finished their last lessons and have sat their first written exams this week! It has been wonderful seeing some Year 11s coming in to revise in the quad and the LRH in the glorious sunshine. We are so proud of the way in which they went into their exams this week and, even though the next month or so is going to be challenging, we know that Year 11 will do all they can to achieve their very best.
A reminder that Year 11 are allowed on the school site when not in exams, however, they must sign-in to ensure we know who is here. All students can find this information on the Year 11 Google Classroom, where they can go to also find the gate code. Also, a reminder that the yearbook and hoody deadline is fast approaching (24 May is the last opportunity to purchase). As a reminder, the letter that was sent out in January is attached HERE. It is not purchased through ParentPay but through the company shop, as some have asked about that this week.
Well done Year 11 for a great week. Good luck with revision over the weekend and a huge well done to the last stars of the week.
