Happy Easter everyone!
March is always a long month in education, and I am sure that our students are now ready for a well-earned break, following an excellent Spring Term.
As we mentioned last week, congratulations to 8PY for winning House Cheer last Friday, a fuller report is included this week from Miss Elms, highlighting the incredibly high standards we witnessed this year – it is really quite the competition, and a fantastic way to end the term, we even had Mr Boreham and Mrs Burge in fancy dress in an effort to secure victory for their respective forms – I’m hoping we have photos of them both to share with you!
I am very grateful to Miss Croft and Mrs Jones who will lead the Easter Ski Trip to Les Deux Alpes and look forward to hearing the students’ stories on their return. We are flying this year, so fingers crossed that the journey is less challenging than the epic Dover ‘coach-gate’ experienced a year ago.
Meanwhile, I know many of our students in Year 11 and Year 13 will rightly be focussed on revising for their upcoming GCSE and A Level examinations, but would remind them to ensure they keep a healthy study/life balance as they too need a break, to rest and recharge, as we all do.
We return from the Easter Break on Monday 15 April, with a delayed start for students. The site will open to students from 10.30am, with the school day formally commencing at 10.50am as per the timetable below, noting that there will be no morning break and no canteen service before lunchtime.
Have a wonderful holiday.
We are delighted to be welcoming Ms Keira Hibbitt to Rosebery community after Easter, who is joining as a Teacher of Mathematics, in advance of Mrs Pickering departing on maternity leave later in the Summer Term.

We have certainly ended the term on a high with our highly anticipated 'Drills 4 Skills' workshops. The workshops were designed to encourage Year 7s to try something new and perhaps discover something they might be awesome at! It was a delight to see the Year 7s throw themselves in to every session as they eagerly seized the opportunity to explore different activities and embrace new experiences. There were a total of 12 activities including henna painting, juggling, candle painting, British Sign Language, crochet, cupcake decorating and so much more! A huge thank you to talented Year 7 tutors and Year 7 Champions who delivered incredibly engaging sessions with huge levels of enthusiasm!
On a separate note, we would like to congratulate to Penny C 7EY who competed in the Gymfinity Level 8 Invitational Competition last weekend. Penny had a very successful meet after achieving a gold medal, three silver medals and was awarded joint overall champion for her age group! We are so proud of your achievements - what a superstar!
We want to wish you all a very restful, yet fun-filled Easter break and we are already so excited to see what the Summer Term brings for Year 7!

What a lovely week to end the term - full of excitement, celebration and joy!
Firstly, it was a pleasure to welcome parents and carers onto the school site this week. Our Curriculum Refinement Evening was incredibly well attended, and it was wonderful to engage with so many of you about your daughter’s experiences this year and the thought process going forward for curriculum refinement. As mentioned in the letter that has gone home since then, please do get in contact if you need any advice or assistance before the deadline on Wednesday 1 May 2024.
We also had the most enjoyable assembly of any half term with our Celebration Assembly. It is always the most enjoyable part of my job, allowing us to celebrate the wonderful things that Year 8 are doing daily. Well done to 8CX for a clean sweep, winning both prizes for attendance as well as the AIM award and merit prizes. A special shout out to Amina K 8PX, Lily R 8PY, Blossom W 8EY, Megan H 8MY and Kate S 8MX for being our individual prize winners, and to Milly P 8PY for winning our AIM award completers raffle!
An additional congratulations goes to Quinn H 8PX, who recently competed in her gymnastics competition, winning gold in all of her categories. We are so proud of your success and this truly goes to show the hard work and dedication you put in to everything you do, very well done!
I hope you are all able to have a relaxing Easter break and that Year 8 come back raring to go for the final term of the year.

8PY: Katana R-E - for her fantastic work in lessons this week.
Mr Pingree - Head of Year 8
Miss Morris - Deputy Head of Year 8
What a term! I said in the celebration assembly this week how proud I am of Year 9. Everyone has something to celebrate, from their sporting achievements, LAMDA exam results, being selected to present at the V&A Museum, winning the round of Rotary Young Chef Competition, recent cricket successes, Business Enterprise projects that are launching after Easter, taking risks in lessons (and offering answers even when we are not sure) and even making it to the final of House Cheer. The list can go on and on and therefore, as a result, everyone is exhausted and needs a well earned rest over Easter.
I was proud of our Year 9 helpers who supported departments this week during the Year 8 Curriculum Refinement Evening. The students spoke so fondly of their subjects in Year 9 and offered meaningful guidance to our Year 8 students. Truly amazing ambassadors!
In particular, we celebrated the following successes in our assembly this week; Madeline A 9EX for not having any de-merits (who is part of 59 students in the year), Yasmin N 9CX who has 100% attendance, and Orla U, Evie T, Lula B, Eve A, Matilda SF, Susannah R and Marnie B who have over 150 Merits. The winning form with the least de-merits were 9MY and the form with the most merits were 9CX.
Well done to our Star Bakers (nominated by the Food Prep & Nutrition team); Jemima K, Emma R, Scarlett S, Amy R, Isabelle J and Summer S, as well as our Brave Award winners this term; Vivi H, Mabel H, Ava W, Elsie S, Axelle V, Rosie M, Amy B and Bella Rae B.
In the Summer Term we look forward to our Harry Potter Studios trip on Thursday 18 April, Graduation Day on Wednesday 22 May, and our Activity Days on Thursday 11 July to Monday 15 July. Letters have been sent home with more information about the days and the services available to pay for them on ParentPay.
We hope you have a lovely Easter break and spend valuable time with your friends and family.
9CX: Eve A - for their success in cricket that has led to them being invited to India for a 2-week training camp!
9CY: Tilly S - for her achievements in LAMDA - well done!
9EX: Cady T - for her highly skilled gymnastics in House Cheer!
9EY: Rose C - for continued hard work in Sociology.
9MX: Amy B - for her achievements in LAMDA - well done!
9MY: Alyssa A - for reaching 100 merits!
9PX: Axelle V - for her "FAN"-tastic performance in House Cheer.
9PY: Zaynab A - for receiving 129 merits and only 1 demerit for the whole year so far.
Mr Waight - Head of Year 9
Miss Fielding - Deputy Head of Year 9
This week has been such a fun celebration of Year 10 and we hope that students have been telling you about the fun activities that have been happening here!
We know that our students work so hard, and so this week, Mr Hewett organised what can only be described as an epic Easter Egg hunt. All week, there has been incredible enthusiasm, true determination and more than a little jealousy from other year groups at this bespoke treat organised for Year 10, and it has been so fun to watch them be challenged and earn prizes.
In addition, we also rewarded our top merit-earning form, 10EX, with a trip to Jungle Island Adventure Golf. Miss Watson and I had a great time seeing the encouragement (and friendly competitiveness) between them, and not only did a few students successfully score a hole-in-one, but the downpour that was predicted held off - at least until we all got back to school.
We also held a bumper Celebration Assembly this week, with 10EY winning the award for most improved form; and prizes awarded to those with 100% attendance, and who have achieved certain merit thresholds, including our first round of students with 250+! These awards are always so rewarding to collate, because it is an opportunity for us to reflect on what a fantastic group of students we have in front of us.
As we look ahead to the Easter holidays, I hope you all have a well-deserved break. To those going on the ski trip: have fun, and please be careful (Year 10 are threatening to exhaust the supply of crutches and surgical boots in the local area!) Thank you so much to Miss Croft, Mrs Jones and the rest of the team for looking after them all and we can't wait to hear your stories when you get back!
10CX: Lili W - for performing at the O2 on Sunday and taking it all in her stride! Well done Lili!
10CY: Sophie L - for always being a pleasure to have in form time and for being proactive in organising and logging her work experience placement.
10EX: Sophia T - for making a huge improvement this term, earning lots more merits than in the Autumn term - well done and keep it up!
10EY: Fatima R - for her excellent effort and classwork in the last week of a tiring term!
10MX: Angelie S - for her fantastic work in Maths this year. Well done!
10MY: Nicky H - for being proactive and independently sorting and securing a work experience placement focused around a possible future career.
10PX: Mia M - for always contributing really well in PDC lessons and promoting positive discussions with the whole class or small groups.
10PY: Jaycie G - for impressing Miss Darch in her lessons this half term.
Ms Newman - Head of Year 10
Mr Hewett - Deputy Head of Year 10
I can’t believe we have finished the Spring term, and what a busy term Year 11 have had. Today marks their last full term at Rosebery School as a year group. Although we had our celebration assembly last week, it was a lovely way to finish off and remind Year 11 how far they have come since September. Although they are tired, they still try their absolute best everyday and we are so proud of the way in which they have handled this busy term.
As a reminder, the Year 11 yearbook and hoodie deadline is fast approaching on Friday 24 May, so please get your order in. There were so many students last year who wanted these on the day of results, however, once the deadline passes we cannot order any more.
We have encouraged Year 11 to reset and rest to ensure they are ready for next term, but we have spoken with them about how they need to balance this with revision during the Easter holidays. We hope that Year 11 have a lovely Easter break ready to return on Monday 15 April for their remaining weeks before study leave and their GCSEs begin.
Have a lovely Easter!
11CX: Roxy D - for her continued determination in Drama.
11CY: Amaya T - for her excellent progress in English.
11EX: Cherry M - for her determination and effort in lessons last week.
11EY: Cara H - for her effort and determination.
11MX: Riya C - for making excellent progress in all subjects.
11MY: Jess B - for improved punctuality to form time.
11PX: Jess T - for her consistent determination and effort in all subjects.
11PY: Isla K - for supporting PE moderation.

Do you play the steel pans? Are you part of a Bhangra dance group? Or are you a Chinese food enthusiast? Rosebery’s Annual Culture Week is coming up in June, and the Senior Prefect Team would like to make it even bigger and better for 2024! We have lots of activities and events planned but we’d really like to have an external group volunteer to come in and share their culture with the students, such as a traditional dance group or music group.
Anything is welcome, such as games specific to a certain culture or even cuisine! We’d love to hear from you, so if you have any connections or contributions, please contact Mrs Ringer using the contact us form on the website.

Candace S 9CY, Lottie S 9MY and Susannah R 9PY enjoyed a fantastic day at the V&A last Tuesday for the V&A Innovate competition Pitching and Awards Day.
The top 10 teams travelled from across the country to the V&A South Kensington. They took part in 2 workshops with resident artists and designers, saw their work on display and got to meet the students and teachers from the other selected schools, and the girls stood up in front of a full auditorium to pitch their fantastic design and prototype to the panel of judges and the other schools.
The girls were understandably nervous about the pitch, however, they were fantastic, delivering a confident and well-prepared presentation that saw them win their category of 'Sense'!
It was a whirlwind of a day, and it was great to be surrounded by industry professionals. It was so inspiring to hear the level of creativity, empathy and understanding of real-world problems that these young people displayed. All these students have the potential to be such positive voices of change for the future within design and society as a whole.

On Monday, we took nine students from Years 7 and 8 to a gymnastics competition held at Hinchley Wood School. The girls competed 2x vaults and a 9x move floor routine. Each Rosebery student opted for the highest difficulty moves - to which they were executed perfectly. The girls competed against three other local schools to which they placed 2nd overall. Well done girls, you did an amazing job!
Miss Elms - PE Teacher
A big well done to the girls who attend the South East State Schools Hockey Festival at Marden Russets Hockey Club. Rosebery came third overall, which demonstrates the standard of which the girls played. The girls played in a round robin, winning 2 of their games and drawing 1, while unfortunately losing 2 by only one goal in each game. The girls utilised all of their hockey knowledge to come together and play excellently as a team. I must also note how supportive students were of each other as we took students from Years 7 to Year 9, with all of them having a different hockey background and knowledge of the game.
A big well done to Luella D 8CY who was in goal, and to Jemima S 9CX and Ava W 9EY for their fantastic work shooting at the goal and keeping the ball out of our defensive end. Caitlyn K 7CX played excellently in the middle while getting back to defend when needed. Every student played excellently in their role and I couldn't be more proud of the way the girls represented Rosebery. Well done all of you.
Miss Fielding - PE Teacher
On Thursday 14 March, the Rosebery squash team played in the National Schools Finals. Getting to this final was an excellent achievement in itself and one that the girls should be very proud of. Rosebery were in the finals as one of the top eight schools in the country - phenomenal! When we entered this tournament for the first time back in October, we did so not knowing what to expect. We knew that we would be facing private schools who had squash courts and squash teams galore, but that was a challenge the girls were willing to face. After getting through the first two rounds in a very convincing style, we knew that we deserved our place in this final.
The final was held at Edgbaston Priory Club in Birmingham and was a spectacular venue. The girls all made the effort to travel up to Birmingham the night before as it was a 9.00am start on Finals Day. When we arrived, I could tell that the girls were a little nervous, however, nerves are good (it showed how much they cared). The nerves were not helped by the long wait for the first match, but we found some warm up courts and were soon ready for the first match against Wycliffe College. This was a really tough fixture as we were playing the third seeded school in the country! The girls held their own and played really well. Every ball was fought for and we did not make it easy for the opposition. Unfortunately, India S 7CX was our only player to win her game so our next match was going to be for the later placings of the group.
The girls had a long wait till our next game, and this was frustrating for the girls as they just wanted to get going. The girls used this time to fuel up and reflect on their prior matches. At 2.00pm we faced Wycombe Abbey and again, this school were well-drilled and their girls were competitive and assertive. They were clinical in their finishing and this resulted in us coming away with two wins out of five, but this was a very narrow loss.
Our final game was against Lincoln Minster and the girls were desperate to win and show off their capabilities. Imi W 11CY had a very tough game where there were some harsh scoring going against her, and unfortunately was too tough to come back from. Once again, India won her game and has been unbeaten throughout the entire tournament. This is a great achievement, but when you also take into account that she is in Year 7 playing in a KS4 tournament, it is even more exceptional! Overall, Lincoln Minster won four games to our one, and this resulted in Rosebery being placed eighth in the rankings.
I would like to say a big thank you to Imi (our captain) as she has steamrolled this whole process. From persuading me to enter, to organising the girls, to giving coaching advice before and after games and to giving up her own time on weekends to run extra practice sessions. She really has been at the forefront of everything and we couldn't have done it without her.
Overall, the girls had a great day at Edgbaston and I personally want to write a huge congratulations on your squash success! The finals was a very long day with some very tough competition, but I hope that they can reflect on this journey with the upmost pride and respect for how well they performed and how far they progressed! I didn’t ever dream that we’d get to the National finals, and it really was a day to remember! To be in the top eight schools in the country is an exceptional achievement.
I am also very proud of how the girls carried themselves throughout each part of the tournament process. Sport is tough, both physically and mentally, but these girls are a credit to their parents and to Rosebery itself and I honestly felt privileged to be a part of their success. I hope this success will inspire future generations and that we can continue to enter in years to come.
Mrs Hart-Mckee - PE Teacher
Year 7 Football
On Wednesday, the Year 7 football team emerged victorious with a convincing 3-0 win against Ashcombe School.
The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 for a significant amount of time, despite Rosebery creating numerous chances on goal. However, the girls remained patient and showed composure, which paid off, when we netted two quick goals in succession thanks to Neve O 7MY and Polly H 7EX. The second saw Polly H score her second of the game.
It was brilliant to see the teamwork and superb link-up play on display rather than relying solely on individual efforts, with our players demonstrating a collective desire to play football the right way!
Well done to the entire team and a special congratulations to:
Neve O for receiving Opposition's Player of the Match.
Polly H for receiving Players' Player of the Match.
Scarlett S 7MY for receiving Teacher's Player of the Match.
Miss Linehan - PE Teacher
