This week's Rosebery News is a much briefer offering, with the school based at the Harrier Centre for Sports Day today and then being closed due to the GLF INSET Day tomorrow.
However, it would be remis not to mention the Year 13 Leavers Assembly and Prom which took place on Tuesday. It was a wonderful morning and evening of celebration, and we wish our fabulous students the very best for their next steps and onward journeys, now their 7 years at Rosebery have come to an end.
I must also thank Mr Holloway and Miss McCall for hosting a wonderful Summer concert in both the Hall and Quad yesterday evening, as our Arts Festival - Rosechella - came to an end. A far more detailed report on this and Sports Day will feature in next week’s Rosebery News issues.
Have a lovely weekend.

Rebecca D 9MY, Erica F 8CX and Naomi F 7CX were all selected to swim in the Stuttgart International Swimming Festival. All three girls did extremely well in very hard conditions of torrential rain and wind in the 50m outdoor pool. However, all three achieved personal bests in many of their events, and Erica achieved silver in the 14-year-old age group in backstroke.
The club and parents are extremely proud of the girls and their achievements.
Rosa M 7CY represented her Irish Dance School last weekend at the Solent Feis (Feis means festival in Irish). She was delighted to receive 5 first places and 1 sixth place finishes in her dances. Here she is with her trophies and medal.

An amazing night was had by Year 11 last Thursday at their prom. There are so many photos but here are just some from the night.

As part of Rosechella the drama department have been undertaking a number of activities this week:
Stage Make-up Workshop
Students enjoyed a special effects tutorial from an industry professional where they created very realistic wounds on their arms! They had a great time learning how to create various effects including cuts, grazes and more gruesome ones with maggots crawling out, or pieces of 'glass' stuck in them!
Instant Theatre workshop
Year 8s had a lunchtime workshop creating instant theatre using props, lighting, sound and imagination! As our new Year 9 options students I am very excited that they will be a big part of the drama department next year as they clearly have a lot of creative ideas and abilities!
Musical Theatre Club
Students in this club created a performance of 'Revolting Children' from Matilda. They choregraphed and planed the whole routine themselves - definitely some future theatrical directors in the making! Their energy and enthusiasm was infectious and they did a great performance this week! Well done!
Drama Club
Under the guidance and direction of Year 12 drama students, a group of Year 7s performed their 'Grimm Tale' of Hansle and Gretel. They did a super job - learning all their lines and performing as an ensemble to create all the locations using physical theatre. And some super characterisations too. Well done to all the students and thank you to Mrs House-Lee for running the club.
LAMDA Showcase
LAMDA students took to the stage for their showcase of duologues and solo pieces in preparation for their exam next week. It was an excellent evening of performances and the students performed with confidence and flair. Well done to all of those who took part and we remain hugely grateful to our teachers Ruth and Susanna for the expert tuition they provide. Good luck (or, rather, break a leg!) to everyone doing their exams next week!
“It’s a wonderful prequel to “A Kind of Spark” that shows how bullying can affect people who are neurodiverse. I would recommend it to anyone who has a family member or a friend who is neurodiverse as it gives such a great insight into the mind of Keedie”
Ciara C 7MY
“I love mystery books and I think if you enjoyed “A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder” from Holly Jackson you would like this”
Evelyn W 8CX
“I love gory books and this one is one of the goriest ones I have read”
Jude Y 7CY
“It is a wonderful story about overcoming a life changing disability and how you should follow your dreams no matter what life throws at you”

Last week, the Year 8 rounders team went to Ashcombe School for the District Tournament which was attended by 11 schools. The girls were in pool A and started straight away with a 'rematch' against Esher, who they had played just the week before. For tournaments, you have to act and score quickly as you have only one innings to make it count. Rosebery started confidently and there was some great hits from Grace D and Matilda D which enabled us to score well.
Esher came back in full force but couldn't quite get the rounders they needed - the final score was an 8-6 win to Rosebery! The next few games were more difficult, and Rosebery lost a bit of focus while not quite capitalising on some half rounders that they could have scored. We narrowly lost to Ashcombe by 3 rounders, and then to Three Rivers by 4. Our last game was against St Andrews and, unfortunately by this point, the girls had lost a bit of focus and motivation, and St Andrews were well-drilled and had some excellent hitters on their team who I later found out were tennis players. This enabled them to have the power and excellent hand-eye coordination needed to contact the ball well. We lost this game, however, due to the rounders we had scored we ended up finishing third in our pool which was a great result.
Mrs Hart-Mckee - PE Teacher
What an amazing day filled with incredible cricket! On Thursday 20 June, we had our KS3 and KS4 cricket team compete in a County Cricket Tournament held at Kingston Grammar Sports Ground.
There was some fast-action bowling from Zainab S 7CX and Erin A 9EX, excellent bowling at the wickets from Dulcie S 7EX and Fearne L 8EX and finally some great 6s from Eve A 9CX and Caitlyn K 7CX (not to mention the catches from both teams!).
Both teams won all three matches which led them both to the finals. Our KS3 team unfortunately lost their match with 186 runs against JAGS. However, our KS4 team won their game with 252 runs against JAGS! Both teams have made it to the Regional Finals, but I am immensely proud of how well they played as a team and their excellent cricket skills. Well done girls, you smashed it!
Miss Elms - PE Teacher
Congratulations to the students in Years 7 and 8 who made it to the Regional Athletics. This is a culmination of their hard work in athletics club, lessons and also success at the Districts. This event was filled with joy, excitement, anticipation and competition. Despite facing some tough competition, our Rosebery athletes shone bright, not just with the performance but with their kindness, sportsmanship and humour. Mrs Garner and I were definitely grateful for this at 7.00am! We can't forget just how tired all the students said they were, asking if they could sleep on the bus. However, by the time we left Whitehorse Drive, we knew we were in for a loud journey as every single student was singing (and the sweets and crisps were out!).
In all their events, students worked hard and pushed themselves out of their comfort zones. We had some amazing performances from Caitlyn K 7CX in the 800m, Francesca B 8MY in the javelin and Elodie S 8MY in the shotput just to name a few! We are excited to see what the future brings for these athletes. Mrs Garner and I were so proud of every single student. It was incredible to watch our students do their very best. Each student should be very proud of themselves - well done and congratulations.
