What a wonderful week of activities and celebrations we have enjoyed, to mark the end of another wonderful year at Rosebery. In September, the theme of Ambition and Joy will continue as our curriculum mantra, but we are going to add the tag line Remarkable and Proud to our pastoral ambitions for our girls, and this year they have already demonstrated that they have already found their #RoseberyRemarkable and should all be #RoseberyProud.
Across activities week students have continued to develop the character traits and develop he skills and experiences as they progress through their journey of personal development. This has included team building, work experience, obstacle courses, a trip to Iceland, enterprise projects, crime scene investigations, medical mavericks, problem solving, Eco systems, the Active Learn residential, London Zoo and of course Duke of Edinburgh. A series of photos are included below to give you a flavour of just how wonderful the week was, even if some of the girls were a little tired and smelly at times!
Our Celebration Assemblies and Celebration Evening then brought the year to a close and highlighted those students who have excelled this year. For some this is for academic performance, for others the progress they have made, for others it might be for exemplary behaviour or excellence attendance - but for many it is recognising them as young women who demonstrate kindness, compassion, integrity and put others before themselves and in doing so, uphold the Rosebery Way. I even managed to sneak in a little brunch with these students this morning to say thank you to them personally, and as I write this, we are about to sign off the year with our Whole School Assembly, where we will be announcing our students of the year!
As always at the end of the school year, we say farewell to colleagues who are moving to pastures new. We extend our sincere thanks and best wishes for the future to: Miss Galley in PE, Miss Sancroft in SEND, Mrs Toye, our Cover Supervisor, Miss Jackson, Mrs Shah and Miss Watson in Maths, Mr Jovic in Business, Miss McCall in Music, Mrs Mohammadi in Psychology and Mrs Brockett and Mrs Browning in DT.
A reminder that the site is open for students collecting their A Level results on Thursday 15 August from 8.30am in the Sixth Form Coffee Bar, and then a week later for GCSE results on Thursday 22 August from 9.00am in the Main Hall - with Sixth Form enrolment taking place on the same day.
Families of current students should have received an email today outlining pastoral arrangements for next year and confirming that the first day of term for all existing students is Wednesday 4 September 2024, when the site will open from 9.30am for a 9.45am start.
New students moving from Year 6 into Year 7 and Year 11 into Year 12 will also be invited to a half day orientation session on Tuesday 3 September, and will receive separate communication about this directly.
On or before Tuesday 3 September, all students will be emailed a copy of their timetable for the start of term which will also be available on Bromcom. Administrative work on the timetable continues over the Summer, so students should disregard changes that pop up in the meantime. Have a wonderful summer break.
HEAD OF SCHOOL
We are obliged to inform you of the following changes to attendance policy that will affect all schools nationally, from 1 September 2024:
If you take your daughter out of school without authority for 5 or more days (which do not have to be consecutive), then the following will apply:
If you have not incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children in a rolling 3 year period since 19 August 2024, then the penalty notice will be charged at the rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. This will be reduced to £80.00 if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
If you have incurred a penalty notice relating to this child/children since 19 August 2024, the rolling 3 year period will be activated from the date of the first penalty notice and the second penalty notice will be charged at the flat rate of £160.00, per parent/carer per child, if paid within 28 days. There will be no reduction for payment within 21 days. Failure to pay the Penalty Notice will result in Surrey County Council considering legal proceedings against you in the Magistrates Court.
If you have incurred 2 penalty notices relating to this child/children in the rolling 3 year period since the first penalty notice was issued, then you will NOT receive a third penalty notice – Surrey County Council will have no option but to consider a prosecution, per parent/carer per child, in the Magistrates Court under s 444 Education Act 1996.
And just like that, Year 7 have successfully completed their first year at Rosebery! This week was an incredible showcase of Year 7's resilience, hard work, and creativity, highlighting the fantastic qualities of our year group. The trip to Whipsnade Zoo was a delightful way to cap off the academic year, showcasing the exemplary behaviour and curiosities of our students. The interactive games designed based on their zoo experiences truly displayed the outstanding teamwork and innovative ideas in our year group. The energy and enthusiasm during the team-building activities and competitions were truly heart-warming, even when the rain started pouring!
The celebration assembly and evening were definite highlights of the past week, where we celebrated the achievements and leadership of our exceptional students. As we close this year on a high note, we want to thank our students for embracing the spirit of Year 7 and wish you all a restful and enjoyable summer holiday. We eagerly anticipate welcoming everyone back in September and are excited to see the incredible things Year 8 will bring!

We’ve finally reached the end of term and what a wonderful year it has been. For the last couple of weeks, Year 8 have thrown themselves in to all of our Activities Week events, and have had some wonderful memories created with some experiences they’ve not had before. I was especially delighted to see how many students engaged so beautifully with our trip.
One final note of celebration for the year, and congratulations to Aoife C 8MY for her team competing at the National Combo Cup in Sheffield, coming in 6th in their age division - a wonderful achievement which I’m sure you will build upon! I’d also like to congratulate Imogen D 8PY who has worked tirelessly to achieve her grade 4 in piano and for not only accomplishing this, but doing so with distinction - well done Imogen! Finally, I’d like to congratulate Betty V 8PY who also has achieved a distinction grade in her cello exam recently. Well done for being so dedicated and determined to achieve this It is a great pleasure to have so many talented young people in this year group.
The final week of term feels very surreal, and planning celebration assemblies and Celebration Evening awards has really made me realise just how much Year 8 have done this year. I have been so lucky to have taken on such a wonderful group of students, and I’m genuinely excited about the progress we will make together over the next three years of their journey.
Stay safe and have a wonderful break.
Mr Pingree - Head of Year 8
Miss Morris - Deputy Head of Year 8
The last week has really demonstrated why Year 9 have been on a journey of bravery this academic year. It has been an absolute joy watching everyone support one another at Sports Day recently, which then continued into our preparation for Bronze DofE, with the students that took part working fantastically as a team.
For those who were in school last week for our activity days, they took part in a crime scene investigation extravaganza. There are lots of photos on our Instagram and X pages (@roseberyyear9) where students learnt the skills to investigate, tried them out first hand and were then given the tools to investigate a crime scene (a made-up one of course).
Miss Fielding and I then had the pleasure of camping with the Bronze DofE students and hearing about their days, which resulted in listening to stories of students ‘climbing up mountains’, ‘wading through marshlands’ and ‘being attacked by horse in a field’. One student then made me really laugh when she responded “Sir, don’t worry, they are just tired and being very dramatic!” After the mountains of pasta being cooked had been eaten and the sound of everyone moaning about having to wash up, everyone was ready for bed to recharge and get ready for the next day.
Back in school on Friday, Year 9 took part in a problem-solving day, consisting of many teamwork activities and an indoor escape room. After realising it gets easier when working as a team, everyone steamed ahead and completed the activities ready for the weekend.
Finally, we have finished this week with our reward trip at Chessington World of Adventures, celebration assembly on Tuesday, Celebration Evening and our whole-school celebration assembly on Wednesday. Well done once again to everyone who has demonstrated being ‘braver than I was yesterday’ and I hope the 70 of you enjoy your summer cup filled with wellbeing goodies!
I cannot wait for the next chapter in Year 10, but for now a much-needed rest is required. Look after one another, make memories that will last a lifetime over the summer, and I will see you again in September.
Mr Waight - Head of Year 9
Miss Fielding - Deputy Head of Year 9
As we reach the end of the year, we have so much to reflect on and celebrate with Year 10. Our motto this year was 'Prepared' and we aimed to help out students to face their next steps with assurance, looking of course to their GCSEs next year, but also to Sixth Form and the wider world. They have been set some daunting challenges this year, and yet they have overcome each one with a resilience and maturity that has been impressive to see.
Earlier this year, we set ourselves and the students a task of finding work experience, and even though this felt like an impossible mission, they did it! Evey single student this week has been given experience of the workplace environment, with students gaining placements at an impressive range of employers (BNP Paribas, Chanel, King's College London and BP, to name a few). During this week, a team of Rosebery staff has done welfare checks on each student and we have had some brilliant feedback. Special mention to Tiff L 10CY, Emily M 10CY, Jess K 10MX and Vivian D 10MX, among many others, who have had glowing praise from their employers. As teachers, we also have to say a special thank you to everyone who has helped in a school this week, as we know first-hand how much work there is to be done before the end of the year and how helpful it can be to have extra pairs of hands.
As a result, we have had plenty to celebrate with Year 10 in our final celebration assembly, where we reflected on the year and how their actions have made it so positive. It was also a bittersweet moment as we said goodbye to Miss Watson who is moving to a new school for September. Miss Watson has been 10EX's form tutor since they arrived in Year 7 and has got to know them very well over the four years, providing support and a listening ear to her tutees. She will be missed, but we wish her all the best.
So as the year comes to a close, we hope Year 10 are able to relax and enjoy a well-deserved break. Every single one of them has made us proud this year, and we look forward to their return in September, where we can embark on the challenges of Year 11 with determination and enthusiasm!
10CX: Mrs Hart-McKee and I would like to say how proud we are of every single member of 10CX. The form group is always on the podium for merits and attendance, and this is further demonstrated with their positive behaviour and attitude towards school life. Each member of the form plays a significant part in tutor time. 10CX is such a great form, filled with so many happy and polite individuals. It has been an absolute pleasure being their tutor for this year.
10CY: Jessica H and Poppy B - for achieving the number 1 and 2 spot for the most merits of the form group in Year 10 and for always being such a pleasure to have in form time each day. Well done!
10EX: Thank you so much to all of 10EX for being a wonderful form - having been there since Year 7, I'm really sad I won't get to be there for your final year as a form group. I will miss you and I know you will do brilliantly in Year 11. Good luck with everything!
10EY: To all of 10EY, thank you for being such a great form group this year! You have impressed your teachers greatly with your maturity, creativity and good humour and we can't wait to see what you can achieve next year as Year 11s. Have a lovely break - you deserve it!
10MX: Jasmine F - for her resilience through the year and the recent mock exams. Well done.
10MY: In recognition of completion of a great Year 10. I became your form tutor in September and since then you have consistently tackled every challenge, large or small, with increasing maturity, as well as celebrating each others' successes along the way. There have been so many highlights including your generosity at Christmas with both gifts and time, which helped to make our Community Project such a success. Enjoy the summer and see you in Year 11!
10PX: Thanks for being such a great bunch of students! Your kindness, humour, honesty and integrity always make me feel very proud to be your form tutor. Keep being brilliant and have a super summer holiday!
10PY: You have achieved so much this year. From organising your community projects, to surviving mock exams, to finding and completing your work experience. You have been resilient and cheerful in the face of challenges, and you always stand up for what you believe in. We can't wait to see what you go on to do in Year 11!

On Wednesday 10 July, five Year 7 students competed in the GLF Spelling Bee at Meridian High School. They prepared diligently and competed valiantly, managing to win with an almighty 121 points overall (and individually won 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th places)! A huge well done to the spelling team who secured this victory for us.

During part of their Spring and Summer Term lessons, every Year 7 student designed their own Rosebery Doodle based around the concept of a Google Doodle. These designs were then turned into actual logos using Adobe Photoshop and students entered their final versions into a Year 7 competition.
Well done to everyone for their hard work and amazing designs, which Ms Jacob and I throughly enjoyed looking through in our efforts to find a winning doodle.
After some difficult deliberation, Vivi C 7EX was judged the winner of the competition (see below) and we will be organising for her logo to go onto the Student Intranet page for next year. Our Year 12 Geographers have enjoyed the final days of term in the Land of Fire and Ice. It has been an action-packed tour of this incredible country, and it was a joy to see the awe and wonder etched on their faces at every turn.
The four-day trip involved the most incredible waterfalls, including the picturesque Seljalandfoss, hikes on the ash-covered glacier (ash from the 2010 Eyjafjallajokull eruption) known locally as Solheimajokull, and a visit to the world-famous black volcanic beach to see the magnificent basalt cliffs and caves.
We started our tour in Reykjavik with a visit to FlyOver Iceland - a brilliant multisensory virtual experience whisking us off to the most incredible locations across Iceland. The joy on their faces (and screams in my ears) throughout was a genuine thrill.
They also enjoyed visiting LAVA, Iceland's Volcano and Earthquake Centre. This brilliant exhibition reveals the volcanic forces at work in real time so we could see live maps of earthquakes all across the country. They have some of the best interactive tools I've seen which allowed the girls to explore Iceland's unique geology.
For some, the highlight was the geothermal hot spring. This particular spa is spectacular. The designers successfully blend 8 pools in with the natural surroundings allowing access to the open water of a fjord. For the bravest, it allowed switching between the coldest 'Ocean Plunge Pool' to the 'Old Hot Spring' at 40°C. Having the same tolerance to cold temperatures as a meerkat, Mrs Burge remained in the Old Hot Spring throughout.
The sights of this incredible country truly have to be seen to be believed and I've no doubt they will live long in the memory of our students. Being here (particularly when standing between the two tectonic plates and the retreating glacier) reminded us all of the sheer power of our planet and the need to respect and protect it. It was a joy and privilege to lead such a lovely group of students who were a true credit to our school.
Mr Boreham - Geography Teacher

On Thursday 4 July, some of our wonderful Year 12 scientists visited the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. They experienced being shrunk down to the size of an atom, having their brains scanned to calculate their attention span, and listening to air bubbles popping in 300-year-old ice. They met inspirational scientists working on the batteries of the future and rehabilitating abandoned mines into diverse ecosystems. To top it all off, they got to go on Miss Stanwix’s guided tour of London landmarks!
Miss Stanwix - Head of Chemistry

What an incredible day, with both our U13 and U15 cricket teams competing in the Regional Cricket Competition held in Sidcup CC. I'm beyond proud of both teams for working so well together to make it to the County's competition (and then the Regional)!
Despite being a player down, this team were able to show fighting spirit to produce a result of third place in their age category! The girls played three tough private schools with only one win. They then played their finals match where they played for third/fourth position. There was some great bowling from Zainab S 7CX, some straight 6s from Caitlyn K 7CX and fabulous fielding from Polly H 7EX. What a way to go team, you should be super proud of the level of cricket you have been playing!
I still cannot believe this is a newly formed team! They won 2/3 matches which led to them playing for first/second place, and what a game it was as the girls were winning by 1 run, with 2 overs left. Soon came the second to last bowl of the over, and the opposition had left crease before the bowl, to which Luella D 8CY stumped the batter out. On the final bowl, the opposition scored a four. The team placed second overall which is an exceptional achievement! There was great bowling from Eve A 9CX, Erin A 9EX and Fearne L 8EX and some excellent wicket-keeping from Luella D. I'm so proud of you for your hard work and look forward to the next season!
We were also fortunate enough to meet some of the South East Stars Women's Cricket team players, Alice Davidson-Richards, Bethan Miles and Emma Jones.
Miss Elms - PE Teacher
