8th grade:
8th graders are beginning their food unit in Spanish class. This unit will span over the course of the entire first trimester. Students will explore their own preferences with foods and beverages, as well as learn about different foods and food practices in different countries in the Spanish speaking world.
Some learning targets/ goals for the unit include:
Students will be able to identify and describe foods that they like and dislike.
Students will practice ordering and recognize similarities and differences between foods eaten in different cultures.
I can ask and answer questions about preferences for food and drinks in Spanish/French
I can produce written descriptions of foods from the target culture
7th grade:
7th grade students are beginning their “Mi Familia” unit. This unit focuses on descriptions, family relationships, and cultural practices and values regarding family in the Spanish speaking world.
Some learning targets/goals for the unit include:
I can identify and interpret familiar words about their family
I can identify key words, the theme, and some details in a text about family
I can identify key details from texts and make inferences about cultural perspectives
I can describe the members of my family.
I can ask and answer questions about family members and where they live.
I can write simple messages to compare information about my family and others.
6th grade:
6th grade students will continue through the Middle School Success curriculum through October 4th, and then students will start their language class beginning October 7th.
They will then begin learning greetings, cultural conventions of francophone / Spanish-speaking countries, and continue with descriptions and the “Super 7” (high frequency verbs).
Some goals for the unit are:
I can sound out and spell words in Spanish/French.
I can understand and say days, dates and months in Spanish/French.
I can ask and answer questions to meet and greet a peer in an appropriate manner.
I can introduce myself and provide some details about myself.
