Here's what we're up to...

Of Beetles and Angels (Reading & Writing in Response to Literature):

Students are reading the memoir Of Beetles and Angels by Mawi Asgedom. They are working on determining the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings, and analyzing the specific impact of word choice on meaning and tone. After reading the novel, students will reflect on a key theme in the book in a literary analysis essay. They'll be drafting, revising, and editing before turning in the final draft of their paper. 

Independent Reading:

Just a reminder that students should be reading their independent reading books 30 minutes a day whenever possible. The Trimester 3 Reading Challenge will be due near the end of May, and students are required to read 5 books of their choice:

• 3 free choice genres

• 1 mystery book

• 1 historical fiction book
