Algebra:
Students are doing a tremendous job in Chapter 4: Writing Linear Functions. In this chapter students have connected and extended their learning from Chapter 3 as they explored equations of linear functions. The first few lessons of the chapter focused on writing linear equations in slope-intercept and point-slope form. We also discovered an interesting geometry connection with parallel and perpendicular lines. In the second half of the chapter, students discovered how to use scatter plots and lines of fit to describe relationships between data. We’ll end the unit with the complex but fascinating arithmetic sequence and piecewise functions! The Chapter 4 Test will be on Friday, December 5th.
Following Chapter 4, we’ll dive right into Chapter 5: Systems of Equations and Inequalities. In the first half of the unit, students will learn to solve linear systems using three methods: graphing, substitution, and elimination. The students will review the methods of solving systems and take the Chapter 5 Quiz on Thursday, December 18th. When we return from break, we'll finish the unit with students learning how to graph linear inequalities and solve systems of linear inequalities. Keep up the amazing work, mathematicians!
