Algebra:
Students have done an amazing job in Chapter 7: Polynomials and Factoring! In this unit students learned how to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and factor polynomials. They learned several methods for multiplying binomials and trinomials: distributing, FOIL, and the box method. Students worked like true mathematicians when they investigated the very cool patterns of multiplying and factoring special cases of polynomials.
In the second half of the unit, students will explore interesting ways of factoring trinomials when a is equal to one and when a is greater than one. We will finish the unit with a lesson on factoring polynomials completely. The Chapter 7 test will be on Tuesday, March 10th.
Our next unit of study will be Chapter 8: Graphing Quadratic Functions! We’ll take a deep dive into graphing quadratic functions by identifying characteristics of these graphs and exploring how to graph these functions in different forms. We’ll examine the three forms of quadratic functions: standard, vertex, and intercept. Students will learn what the parameters of each form tell about the graph of the function. We’ll graph these super cool functions using graph paper and pencil and with the use of Desmos graphing calculator. We will have a quiz over the first three lessons on Wednesday, March 18th. It’s going to be a great unit of study!
