Mission Statement:

The Glen Ridge High School Athletic Hall of Fame honors special achievements and contributions by individuals who have been associated with athletics at GRHS and recognizes the positive role that those traits and attributes which are developed, encouraged, and fostered in athletics play in the life of an individual.


Founding:

Members of the community have often discussed the need for special recognition of outstanding individuals who have contributed to the tradition of excellence both in the classroom and on the field of competition while at Glen Ridge High School. The Glen Ridge High School Varsity Club (reestablished in 2001 after a long hiatus) has moved forward to create and support The Glen Ridge High School Athletic Hall of Fame.


Criteria:

The following are eligible for nomination:

1. A graduate of GRHS who has been out of high school for a minimum of eight years (eight Junes).

2. Coaches who have coached a minimum of four years at GRHS will be eligible five years after their last year of coaching at GRHS.

3. An individual who has given meritorious service and/or displayed tremendous loyalty to the athletic programs at GRHS.

*An individual may be considered for enshrinement under special circumstances in lieu of the previously stated criteria.


Hall of Fame Committee:

While there are no explicit qualifications for appointees to the At Large Committee, care shall be exercised to select members who have knowledge of the athletic history of GRHS and are representative of that history. Members of the committee must abstain from voting if he/she or a member of his/her family is nominated. The Executive Committee will include: Superintendent of Schools, HS Principal*, HS Vice Principal*, HS Athletic Director*, Varsity Club Faculty Advisors. The At Large Committee will be appointed by the Executive Committee and include: three (3) current head varsity HS coaches (to serve three (3) year terms), a limited number of Glen Ridge Community Members (to serve three (3) year terms). *or appointee.


Selection Process and Recognition:

1. Nominations can be submitted to the committee at any time by anyone or by the committee members themselves. The official nomination form must be completed for the committee to recognize the proposal.

2. To be enshrined, the nominee must receive a minimum of 75% of the votes of those in attendance.

3. There will be four Hall of Fame categories – player, coach, team, meritorious service. It is not necessary that someone be inducted each year in each category.

4. To be inducted, the inductees must be present at the ceremony/dinner unless ill or deceased.

5. The Glen Ridge High School Varsity Club will select the awards presented and will bear the expense of recognition for inductees as well as the selection committee expenses.
